  • RRP is wrong

  • Have Motorola cameras improved to be somewhat competitive with Samsung flagships? Haven't had one for a while. Looks like great value reading the specs.

    • +3

This is a mid range Motorola. Samsung flagship cameras are much more expensive and better but not comparable at this price.

    • +1

I have the moto and the Samsung s25. The moto pictures are great for the price. I'm daylight they do a superb job. The moto camera struggles in night

  • +1

Same price at Bing Lee if they're more convenient

    • Bing Lee only has one colour and does not have free delivery.

  • +2

Difference between this and 50 NEO?

    • +3

Neo has 2 extra updates as part of new update "promise," smaller screen (6.4 vs 6.7"), flat screen so better application of screen protectors, wireless charging, and a few other things.

      https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=13224&idPhone2=…

      • +2

The Neo screen is not completely flat. It still has a small curve at the edges. I found this out after fitting a tempered glass screen protector. The edges would not sit flat on the glass. Ended up removing it as annoyed me.

It is hard to pick at a first glance but you can feel it when you run your fingers to the edges and you can see it from some angles.

        • +4

2.5D? Sounds like the same thing iPhones had up until the 12. I found the "case friendly" screen protectors were best as they apply only to the flat part of the screen before the edge.

          Explanation of 2.5D: https://www.androidauthority.com/what-is-a-2-5d-screen-61125…

          • +1

@heef: That's probably a fair description, very similar to what you linked too.

I just bought a cheapie gel case from ebay, It sticks up above the screen by about 3mm on the corners and about 2mm everywhere else. I have also found the screen stays way cleaner vs the tempered protectors. No explanation for it. The glass screen must be smoother or slicker.

            • +1

@revheadgl: Better oleophobic coating on the device screen. Perhaps more premium screen protectors may have better coatings. Regardless it's a good reminder to not use too harsh chemicals on your screen as it will remove the coating.

      • +1

Think I'll wait on the 50 Neo run out in a month or so. Looks like better long term device

  • oh damn, day after i got the 9a through ozbargain strat.

    • +4

9A is a different class of phone. Much higher.

    • 9a you will likely be happy to keep for a longer time. Best software support out there is a big factor to device longevity.

  • Does this have a curved screen?

  • What's the difference between 50 and 50 pro

    • About $130 on Mobileciti

      • +1

Hardly Normals had the Pro for 498 this week - might still do. But rather buy anywhere else tbh.

        (it's a fantastic Phone)

  • Can price matching with JB then use perk code to get $30 off?

  • How would this go upgrading from a Samsung A52s? The wife just broke her screen and no idea what the mid phone market currently looks like.

    • +1

It's a similar type of phone

    • +3

A more significant difference might be that Motorolas use almost vanilla Android OS, whereas Samsung has a heavily modified UI

    • Have you tried fitting a replacement screen?

  • Does the eSim allow WiF calling? I have another Android phone with secondary sim as eSim but it does not have the WiFi calling.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

Going from Edge 30 to 50. The bigger battery sold me.

    • Fusion?

    • I've really struggled at times with the Edge 30 battery.
And since the recent update I've awoken to a flat battery a few mornings.

Let us know if the camera is any better on the Edge 50 please. I'm really disappointed with the Edge 30 - especially not being able to keep HDR turned off, and a frequent case of glitching when I make videos (standard HD) which may be an overheating issue just from having the camera app open.

      • +1

I've awoken to a flat battery a few mornings.

That's really bad. How often do you charge it? I charge it once a night and unplug it before bed.

For me, it was really good at the beginning but in the last few month's it's hit under 20% by around 3pm. Heavy usage.

        • I think it's an issue with one of the apps (Spacetalk) forcing background usage after the latest update - I'm still trying to figure it out.
But in general my battery life has taken a hit.
I only charge as and when I need to (or top to 90-100%up if I'm going to be out for the day). I usually pop it on if below 40% and intend to unplug it between 80-90%, but the 33W charger is so fast that it's usually almost 99% when I go to check it after fifteen or twenty minutes.

  • Just a warning that Motorola phones have their own update cycle and do not receive Android monthly security updates on time regularly within a few days of release like Pixel's and Samsung phones. My friends Moto g84 is still stuck on February security update and its now April. Might not be an issue for most but worth knowing if you want regular quick monthly updates and security is critical. Nothing against Motorola's they are great value for the price and if you're on a budget they are worth considering.

    • +4

Only Pixel and upper mid range and high end Samsung models get monthly security updates. The G84 is a cheap model. Samsung phones at this price are advertised to get quarterly patches.

      • +2

Yeah I know but some people may not know, worth understanding that budget phones mean budget security.

    • +1

Samsung got their own cycle as well. Only the flagships and new enterprise devices get monthly.

      https://security.samsungmobile.com/workScope.smsb

Mid rangers such as this typically is quarterly.

    • +1

My Samsung A35 is stuck on the same version.

  • I have Motorola g51, the fact about I like this phone is a durability: this phone has felt on floor 50+ times and never been broken ( screen). I am a tradie so it will happen again. I only use a back cover which came with it.

Can fusion stand out like that ?
Is there any link or website which gives durability points /rating so I can compare g51 vs fusion for durability.

    Thanks in advance

    • +3

It looks like this model has a curved screen. Curved screens are typically not great for durability.

      • Not sure which phone I should buy to upgrade

        • Share you budget and people might help. Could invest in a high quality case as well.

    • Nice to know I'm not the only one still rocking the old g51 in its original back cover. I can also attest to its durability. It has been and still is a great value phone. I'd rather avoid curved screens so I'll pass on this deal and wait for flat screen deal.

      • Truely: I am unable to change now because it's like a hard rock. Once I dropped it on the stairs : it was wobbling down on 7-8 steps - I bet a mate that it would be working fine. And here it is : not even a scratch.

Do you know any other phones this much durable ?

        • I've got no idea to be honest. It would be nice if there was a tradie forum or subreddit out there where blokes like you talk about which phones last longer after being roughed up. Tradies drop and smash their phones more than anyone else I reckon. I just wish the g51 continued to receive updates as it's a perfectly good phone.

          • @johnwickspuppy: True.

My phone restarts itself and that's the only issue I am facing at the moment.
Did u face any issue similar to that ?

Hopefully some tradies see our chats and recommend a phone.

            • @Masterio233: I don't have any issues with my phone. I've been pretty careful with it over the years so I haven't dropped it that much. I don't think I've dropped it as many times as the average tradie or even the average person. I've accidentally sat on it a few times but I suppose my fat arse has cushioned the impact. Still, it's been squashed more than it's been dropped and still works to this today. I wish they kept making phones like this but we shouldn't hold our breaths.

              • @johnwickspuppy: True..
                Thanks for the response

                • @Masterio233: Hello my tradie Ozbargainer friend, not sure if you're still following these comments but my g51 has finally got a cracked screen after I dropped from chest height onto tiles like an idiot. It works fine though but the phone is pretty old as you know. Have you replaced yours? If not, here's a deal that just got posted and it might interest you: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/904765

                  • @johnwickspuppy: Haha
Still following your comments mate. Just saw the deal today.
I was thinking of getting g75 or Samsung a56 ( someone put it in comments , I think i have to buy amysim too for that ).

Sorry to hear about cracked screen , so it is still working with the cracked screen ? ( I have dropped it in the escalators/stairs plenty of times, luckily the screen didn't crack )

                    • @Masterio233: Yeah amazingly it works perfectly fine. No issues whatsoever apart from the screen cracking in many different places. The touchscreen functions still work although it feels a bit bumpy. I think maybe you got lucky with your drops and the initial hardest point of impact weren't directly to the screen, so the other parts of phone bore most of the impact. My phone fell face first onto the screen this time. It was a cheap phone and it's survived so long with a fair bit of abuse so I can hardly be upset.

It might be difficult for you to find out if the G75 or A56 are as durable as our G51. In the end I'd go for whatever is better value. Good luck with the upgrade mate.

                      • @johnwickspuppy: Thanks mate
Just bought g75, would be delivered on Monday. Will keep you posted if g75 screen breaks.

                        • @Masterio233: That's a good bargain. Sub 300 for a very decent phone according to users. Haha I really hope you don't drop it too many times to test out the screen durability. Have fun with the new purchase mate!

                          • @johnwickspuppy: Thanks.
                            Will update U

                            • @Masterio233: You're not gonna believe this. I just bought the same phone. It's like you and me are phone buddies! The G51 is still fine even with the badly cracked screen and I was gonna continuing using it but another deal for the G75 popped up and I couldn't resist this time.

                              Also, I found another G51 user: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16518370/redir

                              • @johnwickspuppy: I completely believe you. Haha

I regretted buying it at a high price of 297 at mobileciti. But the phone looks really good.

                                • @Masterio233: The Ozbargainer in me hates it when my purchase is cheaper only a few days or weeks later. It's very annoying, but remember, you bought your phone for less than $300 which is still a bargain. I'm glad you're liking the phone.

                                  • @johnwickspuppy: Thanks mate
                                    I will be in touch.

Tell your experience as well with g75 once you have thrown it couple of times.

                                    • @Masterio233: Yes I'll report back but I'm really hoping not to drop it as many times as our G51s. It's inevitable though. I even thought about buying a hard case but for the price we paid, I'm not sure it's worth it.

  • +1

Realistically how much worse is this than a pixel (software and camera aside)

    • +1

For normal use, not much. These phones are fine for normal use.

    • From playing around on a friends Moto g84, Google's Pixels are far and above better optimized and smoother. Software is just so much better on Google's phones, and the camera is too. A 3-year-old Pixel 6a I used to have is a better phone than the current budget Motorola's, faster and better optimized and then you have the security updates issue and the battery on the 3-year-old 6a is so much better in my experience. Don't get me wrong Moto's have their place if you're on a tight budget, but don't expect a flagship experience from a budget phone.

      • +1

Pixel phones are twice the price at the least then a G84. I just sold by G84 on ebay and got a G85 . Cost me $100 to $150 each year and get a new phone every 12 months.

      • +2

No one here is expecting a flagship experience from a Motorola phone,
But you can buy a new one whenever they start clearance on the old model and you’re wallet will barely notice.
I personally have never had a flagship or mid tier phone ,
unless you count the Sony Experia’s, which I don’t .
        So I don’t know what I’m missing.

        • +2

Your right, but security is important these days no matter what age group or budget. No reason why Motorola can't release monthly updates for all models. I imagine the same Moto Android is the same across budget and high-end phones.

  • Hello everyon3, i m travellings to bali from auckland with layover in sydney for couple of hours. Any chance i can pick this at the airport or price match with any shop at the airport. Thanks

    • Doubt you can get any duty free shops to price match a non-duty free price.

There's a job hifi store on air side but their duty free prices are cost more than outside

      • Thanks Bud. What are chances to actually get it delivered in one of the shop at airport. I know its slim but just vhecking if someone has done this before. Thanks

        • I wonder if they use Australia post to deliver it. If yes, check if it's possible to pick up from Australia post? There is Australia post in int'l terminal but you have to go through immigration.
          https://auspost.com.au/receiving/parcel-deliveries/parcel-co…
I thought about parcel locker, but there is none in airport building. Nearest one seems to be in wolli creek.

This is one of the best android phones I’ve owned when considering the price to performance. I bought it as a secondary phone for taking some work calls but i find myself using it for everything now.

It’s cheap enough that if I lose this or break it I won’t feel too bad, and snappy enough with a decent camera to give a lot of more expensive models a run for the money.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, bought one

    • i like mine, it’s on android 15 and haven’t found a driver to update to another phone.

  • Was really happy with edge 30 apart from camera but this seems like an upgrade. Only thinking are the curved edges a cause for concern or more easily broken screen? Never had a phone that isnt 100% flat. Also heard it overheats but didnt notice this problem with edge 30.

  • -4

Links are showing at $397, not the $357 advertised.

    • +3

Use the code that is advertised

  • Bought this, seems like a great deal but then I remembered one of the worst things about Motorola is its nearly impossible to find cases

  • just get a oneplus 13t

  • Does this have SD card slot?
