After trying a few handhelds, I realised that if you are not super into AAA on handhelds or having more gaming platform support on Windows, just get a Steam Deck. Yes, pretty much all handhelds out there are more powerful than the Steam Deck, but no need to fiddle with different settings, it just works.

Didn't try the Deck but was impressed with the Go, fiddly yes but if you are a pc gamer you just used to it.. We surely spoiled for choice that's for sure!

Yes, pretty much all handhelds out there are more powerful than the Steam Deck, but no need to fiddle with different settings, it just works.

I love my Steam Deck, but you do need to fiddle around a bit if you install games from unofficial sources, or try to install games that use launchers other than Steam e.g. Epic, GOG, Prime Gaming. I'm talking about control mapping, making sure you have the correct Proton version for the game to work in compatibility mode etc.

If you stick just to games bought and installed on Steam, yes you would be right but even then some are not 100% compatible with Steam Deck especially for older games. I had to get refunded for that reason.

Fair enough perhaps I gave too much credit to the Deck. For me the Steam Deck is a great way to clear half of my backlog. It really shines playing games, that are fully support as you mentioned, like Dave the Diver or Hades 1 or 2.

All great games you mentioned. If you like casual platformers with levels try Super Hand Adventure it's bonkers. You basically play a hand lol think of "The Thing" (hand) from The Addams Family.

Idk man, you set up heroic once and that’s it. It’s a three click process after that to add your free games that you never play.

If you want to play quacked games it’s more hacky, but idk be less poor I guess.

        • I have Heroic, even then you still run into compatibility issues from time to time. I am sure you've come across instances of this in the past, even at least once.

I mostly play older adventure/point n click games so my experience would probably be worse than the average gamer. I've had to post help on r/HeroicGamesLauncher numerous times, or needed to seek solutions there.

    • that and if you already have decent modem and PC you can just stream the heavy titles to it.

Not sure how useful 120hz is without vrr

    • +2

      Black frame insertion at 60hz…

    • Being able to run games at 40FPS is a plus, even if just for battery life purposes.

  • Yeah got a steam deck 1tb and a extra 1tb so card with the battery life I get, I wouldn’t go with anything else right now does this have better battery life to a steam deck?

  • +3

PWM is pretty poor at 120hz. Steam deck has 240hz to put it in perspective. https://www.notebookcheck.net/ZOTAC-Gaming-Zone-handheld-rev…

Battery is 48.5wh which is pretty low for a PC handheld in 2025. Plus the few reviews I've checked seem to indicate fan is loud https://youtu.be/kUY_eWLUFUo

Also Zotac zone 2 will be coming out soon (June?) with a better processor. Ryzen ai hx370 vs the 8840u.

      • +1

Yeah the markets about to get a bunch of 8840u and hx370 handhelds.
        Ayaneo, aokzoe etc

Makes sense that existing 8840u are going to see price drops.

    It is cheaper here?

Or this is a different model?

    • +1

Yeah, one model. Plus it comes with the carrying case making it an even better deal.

  • If you have a steam deck already, probably not worth to upgrade, better to wait for fsr4 models next year at the very least
