[NSW] Ryobi 18V 25mm Pruning Secateurs 2Ah Kit - $79.50 @ Bunnings Greenacre (in-Store)

330

Looks like decent value given the secateurs are $150 as a tool only, and this includes the 2ah kit.

I was in Rydalmere earlier and didn't notice this so it might be limited to Greenacre (or other select Bunnings only).

Still quite a decent amount left approx 5 on the shelf at the front of the store with quite a few more down the actual aisle. (Yesterday 4pm).

I tried these and then return them about three days later cause they couldn’t cut through anything

    • lol i reckon they would work only on thin twigs

If you can spend a bit more and get these: they're amazing.

Speeds up all my pruning jobs. Can cut through some really thick branches. The blades can cut every 1 second, so very quick. 2ah battery can do your whole garden, front and back, easy.

Also a great gift for older people, makes gardening much easier for them.

    • Good info but that is more than 3x this deal when you include battery kit.

Sure, more expensive, but significant better. Others have mentioned the cheap ones being underpowered and even useless. It’s worth keeping an eye out for deals on these better ones.

Also there’s the $49 deal for the 2ah battery and charger: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/900871

        • I have one as well. Makes cutting palm frond branches easier.

          • @BewareOfThe Dog: Chicken drumsticks too.

I really wish they offered a spare anvil as well as just the blade.

100% agree. I use them with the 2ah battery too.

These have been fantastic for me. Easily cuts through branches that are very difficult with manual secateurs. I can do lots of pruning without getting a sore hand.

I second this. I have two of them and they’re probably the best tool in my arsenal.

They just work, and they work well.

Can confirm, have the same set & it absolutely has smashed a bunch of jobs I've used it for. Highly rate

dumb question, can I use this for thick hedge branches? my hedges are getting tall and want to shorten them by half a meter but the branches have gotten thick

      • How thick are we talking? I also have hedges. These secateurs are rated to cut up to 2.5cm. But it can cut 3cm, sometimes 3.5cm. Worth investing in a pruning saw for anything thicker:

I also have these and can vouch for them. They take care of the hedges and all the trees. Saves a lot of time. And they share the same battery.

Peoblem with this yes it can cut but heavy… especially for older people

How much better is the brushless pruning secateurs likely to be?

I'm not able to find the kit online so it might be clearance.

My mini review is above. I got them off eBay for less than 200. Not sure if that's still an option. They rarely go on special. But worth it IMO.

        Thanks. I think I'll pass.

      • I have the brushless and rate them highly.

These wont hesitate to take your finger off though.

        • They're supposed to stop cutting if they detect anything harder than a tree branch. I'm not game enough to test that out though!

So much better, you can prune almost forever and they just keep on cutting. I’ve had them shut down only once when I was trying to cut something way bigger than I should have.

AliExpress have brushless generics that fit popular batteries like Makita that go for under $60. Comments about speeding up the job and heavy in the hand for older people are correct tho.

    I have these. Really good.

If people aren't aware - the $80 pair at ALDI currently (I got a couple of pairs for myself and Mum on sale recently for $60 each on clearance) - those are actually brushless! doesn't say it at all on the packaging but it says it on the tool itself. They seem pretty good, especially for the price.

The Aldi one is awesome, really glad I bought one.

  • Is this worth it just for the battery?

  • I use SeeSii electric pruning shears that I bought from ebay. They use makita style batteries and the kit came with two of them.
They cut 25-30mm branches pretty well. Came with a spare set of blades but the original ones are still sharp.
