I've had snapshades on 4 cars now and highly recommend. Bought then for our first and were great. Didn't when we had new cars and then a second child until it got very sunny at the annoying position in the sky (morning/evenings). Got them again and paid full pricing (annoyingly) but well worth it.

Are these worth comparing to other brands that are almost 1/3rd the price? Yes, there are heaps of Google reviews, but anyone who’s really using them and found them worth the x4 price?

    • Either go for the cheap ones that are of equal quality or go to your car vendor directly.

      As I said:

Have I used the competitors? No, so I cannot 100% compare. But i've found them great for all 4 cars. Had 1 Sedan, 2 x SUVs and 1 4WD Ute (with Canopy). I've only ever gotten the Windows Shades, never need anything for the rear windows.

But the fitment is spot on and they do a great job. All vehicles have already had tinted windows (to the darkest legal) and we have still needed to the shades.

    • +1

where are you getting these type of shades for a 1/3 of the price?

      • +1

Amazon? eBay? Not there types, but “shades"

        • So just checking, are you getting generic shades? Or fitted?

          • +1

@Jake T: You can get fitted ones on eBay way cheaper, the seller I used is crazyvictor. Material might not be as good as snap shades but it's adequate for the price.

          • @Jake T: a comment further below bought from WENLO Auto Accessories Store on aliexpress. i grabbed a pair fromt he same shop for my car. fits well. cost $45 (with discount code)

            • @nicolascage: Weird. Just googled them and their shop appears to be entirely empty.

I've got a snapshades windshield shade and have been happy with it, no issues.

    • +1

I can't speak for whether they're worth the price difference, but I have had a good experience with Snapshades. I decided I'd rather risk wasting money than risk wasting time/effort this time around (young kids - no time no sleep no energy to screw around trying stuff). I got them 18 months ago for my MY18 Forester. The fit is great, and they haven't fallen off once.

    • Not in my experience, i've used both and actually found my cheapies provided a better fitment.

That said if you're protecting young kids with prying fingers neither will work and best bet is a nice ceramic tint.

    • I haven't used other brands, but I have been very happy with SnapShades. They fit very easily and I can take them on or off as needed. They have held up for 2 years now and look brand new.

    • +3

They are manufactured in China, and I assume they come from the same factories as Snapshade equivalent product sold in the Chinese market.

I've actually purchased Snapshade equivalent products on Taobao before. They are of good quality and snap just like Snapshades. There are hundreds of stores on Taobao that sell these products, and they also cost about $20 (back only since front is illegal here) with shipping. The manufacturing cost is probably $5 to $10, if not lower. Anyone looking to compete with Snapshades, which seems to have a bit of a monopoly here, can look into starting this type of business haha.

Since I do not own any Snapshades, I do not know for certain if they are of better quality. It is also true that even with Chinese-made products, they tend to use better materials for Western markets, which brings the cost up. Like there is a massive difference between Chinese-made generic bags and Chinese-made Peak Design bags.

That said, are they worth $149? Hell no, I can't imagine this being 10 to 15 times better than Snapshade equivalent products sold in China for like 40 Yuan ($8). They snap, they block UV and the only thing missing is a logo. If snapshades were made here, I would say around $100 is fair.

I bought the X-Car ones from a deal earlier this year, I paid $60 for them (2 rear and 2 side port) and I am really happy with them much better then the over window ones I had.
The equivalent at Snap Shades is $200 on sale at the moment..

      • +2

This. Also got mine from X-Car and am happy with it, considering at more than half the price.

Got two rears for $50. Only issue is the top rear is not in full contact with the frame so a little bit of light comes through, but meh…

    • personal experience, the cheaper ones are the same crap just not snapshade branded.

for anyone wondering just go on ali express and search for shades for whatever your car model is and you should be able to find it.

Benefit of AliExpress is you can also get front shade and rear windscreen shade (which I've found snapshade don't offer)

      YMMV

    • Bought random ones specific to my car on Temu, fit is great and have been super happy with them.

I paid 10$ on Amazon shades and they were well worth it, now they're 13ish lol

These look ugly as especially flapping about on the freeway and they eventually stretch even looking worse. Plus, potentially damage paintwork. They do not look as good. But thats just my thoughts.

      • Nothing of this sort has happened, ordered 22nd December. Rain and shine, these are holding strong, no stretch marks lol

Go ahead, spend your money on snaps 😂

        • If you just can't afford tinting your windows or are in the process of learning to apply the window tint yourself,
the material/stretch/ pull over shade ones will do for the measly $10 to $20 will do. (depending on place of purchase).
I do understand these over $100 ones fit directly and are easy to attach or remove etc., so please go ahead if you need to spend your money.

      • These don’t look great—especially on a nice car. I’ve seen them around, and they really don’t do the vehicle any favors.

  • +2

Ordered a set, was disappointed by the fit. Paid a little more and got sturdy, high quality shades direct from my car dealership.

    • What model vehicle?

      • +2

        VW Tiguan and Toyota Prado

        • Actually had the same issue with my tiguan set

          • @mzeps: Also had an issue with a tiguan set here. Only upside was because they're a brand people know I found them easy to sell.

  • it got very sunny at the annoying position in the sky

It's been like that for a while now…

    • Definitely affiliated 😁

  • how do these go with dashcams? is there any room around the rearview mirror to fit my cam or is snug all the way around?

  • +4

Wow. $149 for my car before discount. Got that price I would hope they would either deeply themselves or someone would be at the ready to put them up for me every time I park the car. Ridiculous.

    • yeah, that’s what my point was. :)

Accidentally got my comment removed by posting aliexpress link but tl;dr

I got some snapshade knockoffs (2 rear/2 port window) from ali for $80 and they have been great, fit my car model perfectly and are magnetically attached.

I cant imagine how paying an additional $150 for snapshades would improve on the aliexpress ones

    • +1

Hi there, would you mind PMing me the link?

      • +1

        done,

Search keywords on ali would be "snapshades magnetic {car model}" or something along those lines.

There was a few options but the ones i got are a double layer mesh, lets enough light in but still really dark, cant see inside from the outside

        • May I also please have the link? Thank you.

    • +1

Could I get the link too please?

      • +1

        sent

        • Can i please get the link as well, thank you

    • May i have the link if possible too?

      • +2

i cant pm you, might need to tweak your settings.

        search " snapshades magnetic "
maybe add your car model too
I bought from the " WENLO Auto Accessories Store " but they look identical to what other aliexpress stores were selling.

    • +6

Yep I have snapshades for one car and aliexpress for the other and they’re identical in quality and fit, would never pay the premium for snapshades again

      • Me too I've got AliExpress ones on both my cars, way cheaper than snapshades and I'm very happy with them

      • Can you send me a link i cant figure out which store to trust on quality.

      • May I also please have the link? Thank you.

    • Can I get a link too?
      Thanks!

    • If you don't mind can I please get the link too. Thanks

  • +1

Have one of these for one of my cars which I got when it was on sale, not a bad shade.
Yes, you can find cheaper but generally you're shopping around to find the brand and size that fits best to your vehicle.
Note, if you have a dashcam it reduces the effectiveness and / or useability of the shade as the shade will no longer be able to fit flush with the inside of the windscreen.
Also, these shades help block UV and keep touch surfaces cooler but still are not as effective as an external sunshade in keeping internal temperatures of the car down. But always better than no shade at all.

  • Can recommend Snapshades. I was originally sceptical about them but they've proven to be useful with blocking out the sun for kids in the back. Admittedly, the rear driver side becomes harder to see to check for that blind spot, so change lanes with extra care. Can't remember how much I paid $149 off eBay almost 4 years ago and they're still going strong.

    • Sounds like you need blind spot mirrors - for a few bucks you can increase visibility and safety, and mostly remove the need for shoulder checks

      • I generally don't as my side mirrors show me everything I need to see, but I still do the blind spot checks out of habit I guess. Have never had any accidents involving lane changes (touch wood), but thought I'd mention it as a warning for others too.

1 of my cars had snap shades, the other I got off Aliexpress at 1/10th if the price. Looks the same.

  • +1

Bought a windscreen Sun Shade. I have been waiting for the sale for a while.

Any thoughts on Koabrella? They seem to be better value when they were on a 15% off Easter sale. The Koabrella offers 87% UV protection compared to 85% on the Snap Shade.

    • I need a windscreen shade. Very open for recommendations on decent but affordable brands!

  • +1

SnapShades very rarely does sales so this is a good time to snap them up!

  • +1

I recently got one for our Model Y; great quality and fitting. I felt they were a bit overpriced but I haven’t come across a better sun shade. Most importantly, happy with the purchase.

    • Same here. Can recommend.

  • +8

Ive had snapshades and Car Shade Co. The Car Shade Co version have better magnets and feels more solid when driving with the window down, plus they were 30% cheaper!

    • +4

Can also vouch for this company. I've had mine for 6 months, definitely help keep the baby sleeping longer with less sun in the car. Their support is great as well, plus Australian company.

    • +1

I have these for my rav4 from CSC, got the full set! Don't use the rear tailgate window a bunch, but the others are on the windows full time

    • These guys are AliExpress dropshippers. Buy direct instead.

  • +1

Happy to vouch for these - great fit for our Kia Sportage. Yes they are expensive compared to cheaper options especially 'sock' style ones but they are so good you honestly forget they are there - unlike those faded scrappy and flappy outside the car options. From the outside it just looks like you have a super dark tint, inside is nice and dark, cool and UV protected so perfect for babies. Can still operate windows with them on. Would absolutely buy again or a similar option/brand.

  • +1

I’ve got snapshade and aliexpress versions….identical, makes me feel ripped off by snapshades, all fit perfectly in my cars

  • +1

Need to separate these into 2 categories: the front windscreen shade, and the magnetic snap on ones for the side (rear) windows.

    Windscreen:

Pro: good custom fit* and thick, insulated material so really does make a huge difference to inside temps when car is sitting in the sun. Will ensure that your steering wheel isn't scorching hot when returning to car, even parked in full sun.

Con: doesn't fold down much. It's pretty bulky and can't be stuffed into a side pocket or something, so you always have this big thing in the car or else you stick it in the boot, which isn't very convenient.

    • probably depends on the model. For instance I'm using mine in an early Gen V Subaru, but mine doesn't have the Eyesight, but the shade has a cutout for it so there's a bit of a gap, which is annoying, but not a dealbreaker.

    Rear shades:
I don't have any so can't comment on it, but given it's just mesh I'd probably go with a cheapie.

  • +1

I haven't bought shades from Snapshades because of the price but I did recently purchased shades from X-Car and Car Shade Co. The shades from X-Car fit our RAV4 and Sportage well. We had fit issues with a shade we bought from Car Shade Co but I have to say their customer service was excellent. Organising a return and refund was super easy.

    • +2

Haha opposite experience here! Car Shade Co felt more premium over x car

  • -3

    Those prices are ridiculous.

  • Honestly worth it. They last forever.

  • +1

I have both snapshades and cheapie ones. I think the cheapie ones are acceptable for the pricing. Fitment is good on both with the main difference I noticed is that the cheapie ones were shipped in a twisted fold but snapshades were in a cardboard box. The cheapies then had fold marks along the material. May bother some people but for much cheaper price I was fine with it.

  • Got some rear window ones from x-car when they had a discount and have been very happy. At the time I remember the price difference was considerable too

  • Where would be a good place to get a windshield sun shade for a 2016 Corolla hatch?

    • I have the same car. The windscreen is very deep so off the shelf sunshades just aren't big enough. So I ended up going with the Snapshades as it is thick and won't sag when deployed. I couldn't see any other brands that would suit at the time.

  • -3

Cheaper to get your windows tinted which would protect from more UV rays than a cover. About $280-$300 to get all sides plus rear tinted, depending on size of car

    • All vehicles have already had tinted windows (to the darkest legal) and we have still needed to the shades

Don't know when the last time you got Windows Tinted, but that was still almost $500 for Darkest Legal with UV protection. I got two cars done 2 years ago and they were like $480 for a 4WD + SUV.

      • Last week, $280 for a medium sedan sides and rear. You’re getting ripped off if you go to tint-a-car or similar large franchises. Vehicles that come with factory rear privacy glass have no UV rejection even though the glass is dyed darker than legal

        • The only main joint I know where I am is Tint-A-Car. I was happy with both jobs and saved me from travelling to the next town or major town for anything else.

          • @geekcohen: My guy comes to your house and does it in your driveway. It pays to look for mobile independent tinters.

  • Rip off. You can get US made genuine Covercraft for this price. Covercraft are OEM suppliers for brands like Subaru.

No way you pay this price.

  • I have them (rear door and port windows), quality is good, but fitment is not perfect (acceptable). Using them over privacy glasses, the black out appearance does look nice (can't be achieved by tints, certainly not legally, and they are easily removable).

But they are seriously over priced* due to lack of alternatives, demand is there, business has been expanding despite the high price.

    * Over priced for what it is, wouldn't cost more than few dollars per shade to make, the rest are overhead and profit.

  • I can get a full set of custom shades for my vw multivan (8 shades!) for $75 direct from china (Ali)

  • +1

Paid $150 for Subaru Outback MY25 shades.

They are worth the money. Quality of construction and fit is exceptional. Strong. Highly thermally insulating.

And there are NO $20 ones that fit a 2025 Outback. I'd tried two el cheapo typical sunshades. Complete fails.

Did I like paying $150? No. Am I glad I have the solution that will last the life of my new car? Zero regrets.

  • +3

Got a set of Snap Shades when the bub was born. No regrets whatsoever. Fits perfectly and looks clean from the outside.

It is expensive, but happy to have a tested shade cover for the little one.

Tried the one from Aliexpress and it was a miss for me. Didn't want to risk the flimsy shade falling on the bub.

Snap Shades provided what I need and I'm happy to pay for it.

That is their business model, however one look at it.

Same way someone buys a Rolex and another buys a generic watch, both can still show the time. I'm pretty sure other shades can still provide some cover from the sun. 😊

  • +1

Pricey, but recommended. No more sun on my newborn's face.

Tried AliExpress, but didnt fit properly. My i30 hatch also comes in a sedan and wagon and window sizes might've been slightly different.
