ASUS Zenbook UX31E i7 Ultrabook, ebay groupbuy, Aus seller, free delivery Australia. Price $1099

24

I was tempted in getting in on this group buy, as we are about to do a round the world trip and want something to take for playing everything from games, movies to web surfing, and this did look OK, but I think I may wait on one with Windows 8 and touch screen myself.

I am no expert of laptops, and a little scared that I may buy a crap one for my first. You guys are the experts, please give your views.

Only 100 units available, 22 sold as of 4pm (WA time) today.

OF NOTE, a lot of other sellers have the 256GB SSD version, so this 128GB version may be a little light on storage for you.

    outdated model 3 times

first gen zenbooks - sandy bridge (ux31E)
second gen zenbooks - ivy bridge (ux31a-dp)
Third gen zenbooks - ivy bridge with windows 8 (ux31a-dh)
fourth gen zenbooks (just announced) - ivy bridge with windows 8 and touch (ux31a-dh touch)

each one can be bought at this price if imported from the US (has international warranty)

only plus is that this model has an outdated core i7 vs a current gen core i5

in all honesty these are crippled ULV processors anyway so you wont even notice the difference using a core i5 instead of this core i7

my recommendation is if you have this kind of money, buy the ux31a with windows 7 on it or wait for the touch model

    • Thanks for you input furythree. I only searched on this model that they are selling, and can see plenty of people selling this model, but with the 256GB SSD for around $1500. I am happy to request the deletion of this deal.

      • went to Myers today and they had some decent deals on ultrabooks. You should have a look before you buy.

        • Any examples? Looking for one. Which Myer?

    • So the picture on ebay group website is false advertising.
ux31E does not have black keyboard like in the picture. The worst thing on original zenbook is keyboard.

  • I was looking at one of these about half a year ago but didn't buy it because of the price.
Even then I never really considered this model because 1) the SSD can be switched out easily 2) you can get a shit SSD instead of a good one (SandForce vs something else) and 3) the new model 31A was about to come out (aka zenbook prime).

From my memory, the prime has an undeniably better screen (1920 x 1080 vs 1600 x 900), has a better keyboard (more tactile or something) and is more efficient.

Anyway, I personally wouldn't get either since I have an iPad but I'd recommend the UX32VD (assuming it's still current gen) for it's unique discrete graphics card or a touchscreen based ultrabook (for windows 8 and general usability).

    Just my 2c.

Edit: Guess someone's beaten me to it.
A question to you, OP: Why don't you make sure it's a good deal before submitting it first? If you just want people's opinion, there's the forum for that.

Thanks leanheart, I did think that the deal price itself was decent, after looking at other prices in the market at the moment for this model. A good deal is in the eye of the buyer wouldn't you say? I would assume that there would be people that would cosider this a good price if they were in the market for this model. But point taken, my comment on people giving their opinion was more for the benefit of anyone interested, I did state that I was not interested in this model myself.

The deal looks fine to me…can't see what the other posters are complaining about. A deal is about the price comparison, ie getting the product at the cheapest possible price. I personally dont ever order from international so I'm more than happy to see things like this posted. Looking at staticice, this is the best deal for this particular product with its specifications…= good deal if the product meets peoples needs.

The price may be OK compared to other sellers however I wouldn't touch it as it is a few generations behind (which also contributes to only having a few outlets selling it).
From what I remember first gen Zenbooks had a few issues that were fixed in the second iteration.

The smart buyer should be able with patience and dedication to snag the latest gen at a similar price, just wait for the next large laptop sale.

FWIW I bought my in laws the same laptop when it was new for a similar price (~$1150) almost a year ago.

  • If you're travelling around the world I'd recommend getting a tablet. It'll do everything you need by the sounds of it

  • dont think u will be running much games on that laptop..

  • RIP OFF

  • should be in forums. question not a deal.

And it's not worth it at all.
