Tried to buy 3x of the 32gb versions but the voucher only applies the one discount and can only be used once.
Bought 1 of each - perfect first pc for the kids to play some games on.
Thanks

6800H has a 680m gpu in it, i think thats around 1050ti level of performance
pretty good for under $400 for the whole pc
Try multiple Amazon accounts?
Can this do basic video editing on programs love DaVinci Resolve? 1080p? 4K?
For my high schooler doing school projects.
I reckon no issues.
This compared to the gmktec n97?
For playing games? This one is far better than the n97.
As a Plex server with hardware encoding as a requirement, the n97 is more suitable due to Intel's Quicksync feature.
This CPU is ~4x faster multi-thread performance…
Totally different class of machine. Many many times more powerful.
Can they take additional storage?
yes!, just swap the SSD
Are these good to run LLMs?
No enough ram
Even 32gb?
Such apu use system memory as video memory as you may know. At least 48gb ram can be enough for llm, and also, only if the system support to setup vram in bios, otherwise you are unable to control how much vram you use for the igpu.
@OZBUser2022: At least 48GB? You absolutely don't need that much to run an okay quality local LLM. Plenty of decent models under 30B params which take < 16GB with context. Plus, by the time you're getting to 48GB, the bandwidth (and to a lesser extent FLOP throughput) are going to be huge limiting factors. A 680M runs e.g. 8GB models at ok speeds, but would slow to a crawl with a model several times the size, even if you had the memory for it.
Also, you can use UMA on APUs to allocate beyond the pre-allocated framebuffer. I have that set to 512MB on my laptop, but it can run 8GB models via vulkan no problem.
@snep: Kinda off-topic, but which GPU would you suggest for someone looking to run in a homelab to muck around with local LLMs in Linux?
How’s VRAM usage if your LLM is ‘idle’? ie. if I wanted to use the GPU for other stuff (eg. object detection in Frigate, media transcoding with many streams at once) when I’m not actively processing tasks with the LLM.
@skittlebrau: Generally, go with the most amount of vram for the budget. Used 3060 12gb is a decent place to start. 3090s keep getting more expensive but are still a good higher end option. Paying extra for nvidia can be worth it if youre planning on doing a variety of ai tasks, but for llm inference amd is fine - works out of the box at good speeds with vulkan.
Vram use doesn't really change between actively inferencing and idling. You could probably have it configured to deallocate the model after a duration - should be under 30 seconds to reload it.
@snep: Thanks, that makes sense. I have a 10GB RTX 3080 in my desktop system that I can muck around with for now. There's also my MacBook Pro M1 Max with 32GB unified memory which I could use with some of the LLMs for that platform too I guess.
@skittlebrau: The M1 max would be a great platform to mess around with. Decent amount of space to fit some more competent models
if you have patience, yes you can.
You can probably use rocm via: https://github.com/likelovewant/ollama-for-amd/releases and https://github.com/likelovewant/ROCmLibs-for-gfx1103-AMD780M…
though on my 8845hs and 780m, i feel cpu only llama is faster than with the igpu
but at least you have a choice of which to use.
If you only llm then 32gb should be enough to run <20b models
otherwise cashup and get more ram
I bought a 7640hs mini pc for 479 on amazon, and believe it is better than this one. The only downside is that it only has 16gb ram, but much better igpu and cpu. The same entry level ssd i think
Debatable it is better at all. Igpu and cpu are not much different at all. Except AI.
Ryzen 5 vs Ryzen 7
https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-amd_ryzen_5_7640hs…
Sorry, total computer twit here. My GF needs a new pc for WFH, and she uses AI alot for voice to text transcribing, and her current i5 HP lappy is too slow. So looking for something with a better GPU for quicker AI. Is the 7640 a better choice than this deal from the OP? Thanks in advance.
Normal AI runs fine on all processors. Not sure how much software uses hardware base AI.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/all-about-neural…
It's a bit weird because the 7640HS is Zen4 and RDNA3 to the 6800H's Zen3+ and RDNA2, so it's a significant architectural step up - but it's also a lower tiered product so fewer cores/shaders/etc.
The net result is that the two perform very similarly, with a slight single-thread advantage to the 7640HS but slightly worse overall GPU performance
Yep the whole AMD product line is an incremental change at best with super confusing product names.
I have a Ryzen 7 7735HS which is basically the R7 6800H and also as mentioned very close to the R5 7640HS (but this is 6c/12T). Mine is 680M which is similar to the 760M…..
@boxall: The 7xxx gen is when they changed their naming scheme for laptop processors. It's a complete mess. They pulled some shenanigans so the last two digits indicate CPU uarch gen, while the first digit indicates release year and second digit indicates general tiering. (Then they changed it again to realign with Intel's changes to 3-digit…)
Problem is they started releasing 'new' CPUs (first digit increments) with old architectures. You've got rubbish like the 7520U released 2022 with a Zen 2 (2019!) arch.
Your 7735 actually indicates Zen3+ so it's effectively a rebadged 6xxx, whereas OOP's 7640 is Zen4 and the newer arch (but it's a lower tier within that gen so overall perf is largely a wash).
By comparison the GPU models at least make some sense: 760m is one gen newer than the 680m but also one tier down.
@elusive: Good stuff!
And as you said the 680m is almost the same as a 760m, but the 780m is greater than both.
Thank you, great explanation.
A Minisforum UM760?
Can this be used as a HTPC? 4K output with Dolby Atmos passthrough on HDMI?
Yep.
my intel n100 mini pc ($180 AUD) is used as a HTPC, 4K output with Dolby Atmos passthrough to AVR - note that HTPC will NOT output Dolby Vision, but will support HDR10/10+, and also HTPPC will not support HDMI-CEC unless you buy/build a dongle which adds support the HTPC.
it has two SO DIMM DDR5 Slots, so in theory could support 96GB (2x 48GB as per many other Ryzen mini PC's)….But official specs state max of 64GB currently
also has two M2 2280 slots for storage!
Beast of a machine for a LOW price
Good for plex ? Or intel still better ?
intel igpu better for transcoding. If you're not transcoding (ie: you download HEVC or convert it yourself before sticking it on your media streamer) then it doesn't matter.
Could you use it to play call of duty? My son complains his gaming laptop is too laggy so wondering if this would be better?
What version. At lower res I reckon.
Depends on what GPU his gaming laptop has. It likely has a more powerful GPU.
I bought this one last week for $475 but haven’t opened it yet. Is it worth to return it and get this one to save $100? I think minisforum has USB C4 port but this one doesn’t.
https://amzn.asia/d/hsRwINU
Why?
have you compared performance of the processors?
do that then answer your question!
I am not an IT person. I understand minisforum has faster clock speed, better GPU and better HDD. Overalls got tempted to save a bit of money but I am gonna stick with what I’ve bought.
Basically the same GPU.
The one you bought is better than this one.
This + screen or gaming laptop?
Yeah am thinking just as a basic laptop with one of those portable screens for basic computing.
Taking the plunge to replace my 10yo tower
Cheers OP!
This plus the 15.6" portable monitor deal could make the perfect permanent kids home pc setup.
Sorry how do you collect the coupon for $160?
Must be missing something! Thanks
Same here.
Yes but the price has skyrocketed.
No voucher :(
Coupon not showing anymore
Oos oh no
damn, just missed it…
Damn missed it
I wonder how this will go with 9x 4K CCTV cameras via Blue Iris.
Blue Iris lists “NVIDIA GPU” as recommended. The 680M may not be enough.
I wonder how this will go with 9x 4K CCTV cameras via Blue Iris.
what are the camera models?
Why use blue iris over NVR or other software like frigate?
are all the cameras connected to a POE network switch?
and how do you connect it to this pc?
Everyone just uninstall the windows and clean install windows 11?would the key be saved in bios or soemthing?
Saved in bios or online with ms
I recommend starting up the PC and connecting it to the net (don't login to an ms account unless you have to).
You'll be safe to reinstall windows. Recommend Rufus to burn the iso image to a USB bypassing some ms options.
Price jacked and coupon valid again
This is some real eBay tactics haha
700 -160= 540 no deal
Yep. Quite often the coupon is a mistake on the discounted price. Happens a lot. Just gotta be quick!
Is there something else people would recommend? I want a mini-PC good for running an eGPU?
honestly.. you'd be better off with a mid size case and internal GPU - less space taken up, less cables everywhere and less noise.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm actually thinking portablity is quite important- so might go for a Legion Go instead, and do a cheap egpu like a 2080Ti
Sales must have dried up! Haha. if I am not mistaken, they have lowered the price by a tenner. Now $689-$160 coupon. :)
Has anyone had any issues with these? I ordered 1 of each, and it appears the 1tb version is missing the NVME drive completely - will only load up BIOS screen.
The 500gb version works perfect.
Hi, I need to buy a mini pc.
It will be used for schoolwork and watching youtube videos.
Any recommendations?
I had a look on Amazon. Several listings with time limited deals $100 blah blah off.
I need something that will perform without any issues but my budget is max $350.
I appreciate help from the Ozbargain Brain Trust…
$350 you will struggle with much performance (unless a deal like this comes up again).
Even something like this will do what you want (Schoolwork and YouTube). It has been $70 cheaper when I purchased it.
https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0D4M6NR4F
or just over the budget this would be good as well:
https://www.amazon.com.au/BOSGAME-P4-4-5GHz-Computers-Window…
Would the BOSGAME P4 Mini PC Ryzen 7 be fast enough?
I mentioned it one line above. Yes. My old laptop Ozbargain refurb Dell $259 laptop is good enough for basic school work and YouTube.
Great value. Go the 32GB/1TB is the best option. I have a 680M ryzen as well. Perfect for a lot of gaming.
