Folio cases can be had for $14 bucks on amazon too which is a great deal for $700 in total (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09HQ2G32C)

  • Is this latest ipad mini model ?

    • +1

Yes came out last year. Newer chip than the 499$ ipad 11" going around on sales

        With 8gb ram

Good price and great companion device. Got it a few months back and use it almost everyday. If you can getting cellular makes this a lot more practical.

    • What do you use it for. Keen to purchase but not sure how to implement daily useage

Do you already have an iPad?

For me I have both an iPad Pro 12.9 (m2) and this iPad Mini. I find they have very different use cases for me. The iPad Mini is the device I carry if I don't need to do work (which would require the bigger screen + Magic keyboard) but would just benefit from having a form factor bigger than my iPhone 16 Pro Max whether it be reading documents, watching movis, or just browsing in bed.

The thing which struck me was just how much lighter this is especially compared to my iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard which weighs as much as my Macbook Air (or more). Screen isn't as nice, speakers aren't as loud, etc… but it works well as a tablet rather than a laptop replacement. It's also cheap (relative to the iPad Air/Pro) and my kids also like using it to read books when we are travelling and they can either use Reading Eggs or the Kindle app for some of the classic Dr Seuss/Roald Dahl books I have.

Note I also happened to have a folding iClever bluetooth keyboard/trackpad which works but not as seamless as the Magic Keyboard, but I've brought that out before when there was an off-chance I'd need to write up something/review a document from work on the go.

I believe this supports Apple Intelligence too.
Awesome deal specially if combined with $30 TGG voucher and gift cards.

Yes it does , but I thought the consensus was it’s half baked at best atm

If only the screen was 120hz …..

    • +2

Yea, I am just like you too, 99% swiping and scrolling and 1% actually reading / watching.

  • Work there is a samsung tablet in this size.

    • +3

the only decent alternative is probably a lenovo legion tab 3

Au models are 999…. if you import its about 650 - 750

      • Yeah, that was in my wishlist, but prefer samsung as I can receive calls when in wifi network and spen. But I think they will never instead they will release unwanted A series models

Love my iPad mini 6 (previous gen) - I literally sold my pimped out iPad Pro 12.9 with magic keyboard for it and I don’t regret it one bit.

    Best form factor by far.

    • As someone with a pro 2021 11 inch purchased as a laptop replacement , what made you move over? I have the authentic Magic Keyboard too but it’s such a half baked product design wise imo, ditched it in 2 weeks.

iPadOS was so frustrating to use and I found myself using my Mac for real work.

Then I realised I was using my $3k iPad Pro setup to watch Netflix and YouTube but only at a desk/table - which I’m like why not use my MacBook again since it’s bigger and better….

iPad mini I can use in bed without injuring myself if it drops on my face.

        • Haha yeah fair enough

I felt the same way (windows laptop though) - just easier for work personally.

Most stores are this price so not really a deal

  • I bought this last christmas and paired it with a keyboard case, and while I like it generally, I don't see the usefulness of the hyped Apple Intelligence

  • Has Apple fix the screen issue on this? The infamous jelly scrolling?

The fact these cost more than a regular ipad is absurd.

  • Thanks OP!

I was looking at this (Mini A17) or an Apple iPad 11" (A16) Wi-Fi 128GB. I bought a apple pencil before the iPad 11" launched and found out I couldn't use a apple pencil pro. So I've been hanging out for a Mini price drop.

  • If you need to buy a case or a screen protector or any accessories for the iPad mini, have a check on tgg eBay or Amazon for good deals.
Just check if iPad mini 6 Gen(2021) accessories are compatible with iPad mini 2024 (A17 Pro).

  • can anyone recommend which one to get between this vs iPad 11 A16. Main usage would be daily web browsing, a lot of note taking, watching Youtube and light game playing. Should I get this one for a better screen or is it not noticeable?

    • +1

Mini is good size if you like the portable of a phone but find the phone screen can be too small for text reading, note taking or just want to enjoying watching some videos on a bigger screen than the phone.

Mini is a nice size for walking around as well as lying in bed to use (watching youtube, gaming)

The larger ipad is more suitable for using on a desk or while sitting up or when you need bigger screen for work or video watching
but is not as good to to move around with and feels heavy on your chest to use while lying down compared to the mini.

Should I get this one for a better screen or is it not noticeable?

The screen will be very similar and eventually you will forget and it will not be as noticeable, ie you get use to whatever screen you got.

      the more important question is
do you like to move around in your house with your phone alot but want a bigger screen than your phone?
do you like using it in bed?

I used Kindle for ebook reading before selling it last month, so I would probably need something similar size. Thanks for the comparison, think I am going with mini.

        • No worries..

I find that I use my phone the most cos it is portable (quick to grab, portable and light)
but the screen can feel small and harder to read text (web browsing).

I also got bigger ipad but I don't use it that much / rarely compared to the phone.

My mini is old and can't get updated youtube app etc
If I got a more updated mini,
I would use it more than my phone at home…

          • @pinkybrain: Regular iPad is impossible to use one handed too big and too heavy, you either need to use both hands or place it on a desk. iPad Mini on the other hand is still comfortable to hold one handed because its light. TBH, those who like iPad Mini would probably love a Folding phone, too bad apple haven't make one yet.

    • Definitely get the iPad. Mini is too small for comfortable web browsing.

      • I find my phone comfortable for web browsing

        • That's great. But you'd probably find an iPad mini more comfortable. And an 11 inch over an iPad mini, more comfortable still.

  • Can anyone please convince me to buy one of these? I am currently using an original iPad mini with a cracked screen for reading daily (that's all it will run without lag). It still technically works though so having trouble reconciling the need for a new one.

    • This is strictly a phone extension.
Imagine having to duck out to a family members place, a lunch with your partner, a long drive or medical center etc. You literally can pop this in the back pocket of jeans or inside a jacket. Think big phone.

In addition, I have a 13 mini for nice small size so this is a great upgrade and in addition netflix works on this and not on macs for downloading offline.
