I have some Quell that were less than 3 years old, they woke everyone up at 3am.
Very annoying. I just remove them permanently.

    • +1

      Replace the battery.

"I just remove them permanently." Hope that it means replacing them.

must be dead 9V BEEP ……………………………… BEEP ……………………….. BEEP
      Change the 9V 🙄

      • +2

nah, mine were those with 10 years battery included, not using 9V.
If you Google Quell Smoke Alarm, you will find many similar bad reviews.
Some suggest it may be moisture that triggers, but mine had false alarm even in a very dry day.

Lol. Aren't you lucky. One in our house is 9V + hardwired.

    • This often happens due to humidity with photo electric smoke detectors, in the middle of the night the humidity can be at it's highest. There are apparently smoke detectors that are humidity resistant but although I've looked for them in the past never seen one with that detail on the packaging.

  • Damn it. Got 2 from kmart for $40 few days ago.

    • +2

Buy these, take them back to kmart with your receipt. Profit.

      • What's is a good smoke alarm to replace them with?

  • +2

If you want false alarm in the middle of the night definitely go fo it

I read somewhere brooks are the way to go but they’re much pricier. Reviews seem good

For those upset/ worried about false alarms- Every year we get a false alarm from both our smoke alarms and they are always caused by tiny insects that have gotten inside the electronics.
When the smoke alarms go off, which as folks say is usually in the middle of the night, I take the unit down, remove the outer cover, turn it upside down and gently tap it onto a sheet of white paper and there is always some little critters that fall out. I put it back up on the ceiling and all's good until it happens again 12 months later.

    • Its also best practice to change 9v battery once a year too. If you don't select a specific date each year just write the date on the battery.

A full 9v battery will always last longer than a 9v which is running out of battery once the main power is cut.

Most 9v battery get used throughout the year as the smoke alarm complete a check to see if there is a battery. Its the same intervals as the low power beeping. Ironically the lower power beeping is always at the worst possible time.

Don't they have to be all interconnected by 2027, at least in QLD?

    • +1

      This is good info.

    • +1

and if you're thinking of selling or leasing out your house soon then you need interconnected ones now

  • Installed the 2 pack.Comes with 2x Duracell batteries included so the battery life should be decent. My units were manufactured last year so won't expire until 2034 (10 yr expiry). Thanks OP!
