Your wife tells me that they're pretty good. Highly recommends them.
Your wife also sketched me like one of her French girls with this pencils and said they were good
They rotate the lead - and so you can always have a 'sharper' tip
they have a mechanism which rotates the tip between character spaces as you lift the pencil that keeps the point sharp and uniform around all sides.
(This is something you do manually with a regular pencil anyway except they automated it)
Thanks will get my kid in prep started early with the Asian pen spinning tricks of old
need 0.7mm
0.5mm master race
officeworks has both
Only the plastic, cheap ones. Not the Advance version.
@bio: it depends entirely on the usecase afaik. For my note taking purposes the standard version fits the bill and hasn't faulted me for continuous 2 year usage. The only technical difference is the advanced version rotates 18 degrees per stroke vs 9 degrees on standard which could be useful if you're using soft leads and writes shorter but frequent strokes.
@kaleidoscope: Sure, but these also look nicer. I already have the older Advance 0.7in white, but I would love a 0.7 version of this one, or the Roulette, in black or silver.
@bio: Roulette in black is the best looking KT in my opinion. Classic style with the knurled metal grip. Good weight and feel. Pretty much my go to pencil. I think I own 2x black and 2x silver.
Advanced looks like cheap plastic junk (is it metal or just "metallic" in colour?) in comparison, but I still want to try one. Sad I missed this deal.
@yamumma: Advanced is plastic with metallic colour. There is also a "Kuru Toga Metal" which is actual metal.

Advanced is plastic with metallic colour.
The Uni Kuru Toga Advance Upgrade takes the Kuru Toga Advance to the next level. It has a W Speed Engine, sliding lead sleeve, and metal clip just like the Advance. However, instead of a plastic grip section, its grip section is made of matte, textured metal that makes it easier to hold.
its grip section is made of matte, textured metal
That's Advance Upgrade, not Advance. Also only the grip is metal while "Metal" is fully metal.
@tonester: @bio seems you are both correct, thank you for the clarification.
Roulette still looks better than Advance and Advance Upgrade.
If I win lotto I'll buy a KT Metal. 😝
Haven’t used pencils for a while. Can someone please recommend good (value) 2B Leads for general everyday writing/scribbling? Thanks
I've always found Staedtler to be very good, available at Officeworks
Haven’t used pencils for a while.
You're missing out…
…but why is the word "missing" in bold? What does it all mean? What does anything mean?!
Are you being
again?
jv has a problem with his empharsis…
How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren't real?
These are no good for writing in bold
I think they actually typed it.
Pentel Ain Stein lead is my personal go to, 2B
+1, but B
+1, but -2
It's now $12.97 :(
It was $8.30 when i went to it, clicked on the other colours to look at them, went back and it went up :(
The original price was from Amazon JP but that stock is gone, different seller now.
showing 12.97?
This one uses the old Kuru Toga mechanism. It rattles. The new Kuru Toga Metal is the new Best. Waiting the price of the metal one to drop. $70 in Amazon. $50 in bunbougu, but OOS.
The new Kuru Toga Metal is the new Best.
thanks, but non-retractable/sliding lead sleeve tip :(
I have the new Kuru Toga Metal and dropped it on the tip on the first day
:( besides that, how is it?
@tonester: I have the roulette (standard mechanism) advance (advance mechanism) and metal (new mechanism?)
yea advance has sliding sleeve but it's kind of annoying how thick it is and yes it is the best line quality (most consistent and thinnest lines) due to the larger teeth but the larger teeth means more up down travel every time you press down on the paper which I don't like. For reference my go to are all non KT cause I don't like tip wobble
the standard mechanism in the roulette is solid, no real complaints
the metal with the resin dampener is slightly better.
mechanism wise, for my preferences I would rank
New > Standard > Advance
I’ve been using the officeworks’ uni kura toga that goes for $5 and has no complaints what so ever.
Nooooooo I actually saw this last night when I was showing my son (8 yrs old) what some good mechanical pencils look like.
Had no idea it was a deal… also saw it at $8.30 - did not buy.
I had some really old ones sitting on my desk and he's been amazed at the 'tech'.
r/mechanicalpencils if you want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.
haha thanks, will check it out!
Price has since risen to 12.97. Did it switch to another supplier?
Can anyone recommend a pen style eraser with easy access to buy replacements. Currently looking at this style off Amazon:
Tombow MONO Zero Pen-Style Eraser Refill Round Tip + Square Tip + 4 Refills
I have the Tombow Mono erasers. The diam is much smaller than some of the others like the Staedtler. Similar to the built in ones under the cap. So it's great if you need more precision. Can recommend.
Officeworks also stocks them if you need refills in a hurry.
Got that set for my kid not too long ago but I can't tell you much other than they said they are pretty good.
Diff seller at the time, was under $15 then.
Spotlight also sells, bit cheaper than OW at the "VIP" pricing, not sure if OW will beat that anyway.
There's another brand on AliExpress called AngelMark that look pretty much exactly the same at 2.3mm and 2.5x5mm, and a bit cheaper.
The 2 pen, 10 refills set is under AU$10. I might give the refills a go next time I need a few bits and pieces to make up the free shipping amount. Despite the length of the pen, the eraser is less than half the length, but not sure how fast they'll go through them yet.
Good find, those AngelMark do look exactly the same.
Seems like there was an issue with my delivery and amazon is simply refunding me now.
Same
Same here. Shame
I got the same message, but my pencil was delivered today
When I ordered mine it was shipped via ECMS Express.
Tracking started out with:
Package left the shipper facility
Returning to seller, Nrt, JP
which triggered the message saying problem with delivery and will be refunded. However it said if refund not received within 14 days to contact support, so I waited. The message didn't change but tracking got updated, left facility again, flight, customs etc and on the 14th day my pencil arrived.
mine arrived yesterday so seems like you simply get refunded if it doesn't arrive on time.
What makes this a good pencil? My wife used these for her sketches, but I have no idea about them
