I've had mine for three years now. Battery life is coming up a little bit short these days (and there's no battery health check option). A battery replacement should do the trick. Otherwise, still runs great for what I need it to do, which is media. A unique use case that I've found for it to be particularly effective is that I use it at the gym to watch movies on the treadmill/stair machine/cycle. The size and form factor is perfect for it, whereas a full sized iPad or iPad Air might be too big.
The mini's are great for reading. All the other iPads are too heavy to hold when lying down.
If you have a Mac, or know someone that does, Coconut Battery (free download) will give you the battery % on any connected iOS or iPadOS device.
I have a Macbook Air M4. Is it on the App Store or through a dmg? Would love to know more. Cheers.
First result when Googling "Coconut Battery"
Both colour options out of stock
Just wondering, am I missing something here? Aside from the mention before - used for reading, why would you go for an iPad Mini rather than pay the extra $50 and get the latest (regular) iPad?
size/weight/convenience.
I once thought of a convenience store chain called 'Kongvenience' where all the attendants/clerks wear chimp suits. What do you reckon? I'd go there.
all the attendants/clerks wear chimp suits
I’d rather a store where all they are all chimps wearing suits. That’s would be bananas.
its more portable and discrete for people to use it on the go. paired with a bluetooth keyboard it can become pretty useful.
its also perfect form factor for many drone flyers that want an ipad as opposed to using mobile phone. the larger ipads might be too big for some
Anyone wearing a crossbody satchel or a tote bag would appreciate a small tablet with a screen bigger than a phone, just for web browsing alone. However a foldable is also a good alternative, if you can afford it.
I use my foldable to browse websites, with a pop up YouTube player on the bottom corner.
Laminated screen and lighter weight would be the biggies.
Mini is so much better for travelling/backpacking! Weight and size factor is perfect, imo.
Screen smaller than a foldable phone
Wonder what happens when apple releases folding phone.
The world will end..
They'll come up with some bizarre limitations to make sure they don't replace iPads, similar to how Macbooks don't have touchscreens, and iPads in sidecar mode need the pencil to control the mouse.
My guess is no pencil compatibility or sidecar mode at all, and probably iPad-only apps won't be accessible. So still no FTL in the pocket :(
The main limitation is the cost which I predict for over $2k even a Chinese brand oppo can't make it cheap. Another issue is heat due to less cooling components because of less thickness.
Opop already released a practical and usable folding phone at high cost.
@bcYield: You’re not wrong but as a small phone holdout… I’d pay an unreasonable amount of money for a well-done iPhone with the form factor of the z flip. An extremely unreasonable amount…
@jrowls: The price might go down if Apple can push to mass production of folding screens. It can work.
Check this Oppo N5. I'd expect Apple folding phones to be even better built and better cooling.
@bcYield: oh perhaps you got me wrong @bcYield - i wasn't suggesting that it would be overpriced or that i don't rate the current ones or quality of them. i just meant i'd pay them whatever they wanted if they could make me that product! i've seen the oppo n5, it's very cool - good shout.
i'd imagine that apple will hold off on doing it until they are sure it will be good enough. the current foldables do generally come with a caveat or two that apple probably isn't ready to accept. (not taking a stance on this personally mind you!)
@jrowls: I got you. I mean to convince everyone to switch to folding phones, the price needs to be around 1k-1.5k. Might take some years. Then I don't see why people are not switching.
Gosh that was a good deal
gone too fast!!! what a shame crying
This and apple tv are the only two apple products i own (android and windows user) but it's probably my favourite tech device.
Use it daily at gym, while on the computer to play YouTube, while traveling (fits in my bum bag).
Great device.
Had mine for 3 and a half years. Got it for free too which was a bonus - still a great device mainly used for media consumption/the occasional googling during a gaming session - partner loved it for Animal Crossing new Horizons app etc.
Given it's basically a home device for us, the smaller/shorter battery has never been an issue. In another year or two, we may consider getting Apple to do a battery swap - it's plenty fast for our use so I can't see the need to swap it out/upgrade it.
Surprise! Purple option is back in stock!! (At $779.99). Space grey is $399.97 but is out of stock.
oos already
