I think I’d rather pay a bit more and fly ANA economy than fly Jetstar

    • Do they fly direct to Osaka (Kix). Last time I checked from Brisbane was like, to Sydney, Tokyo, then another flight to Osaka .. a day of flying.

Agree with not going with Jetstar though.

Joke of the day: Jetstar Business

    • +16

Yeah business on Jetstar is emergency exit row.

      • +3

So no flatbeds and champagne before takeoff?

        • +3

Its basically Premium economy.. there are no flatbeds

      • +6

No, I've flown SYD-KIX and CNS-KIX and their business seats are more akin to PE at least on those routes.

        • +1

tbf so are these prices, if you're expecting a true business class experience this definitely ain't it. I'd personally just stick to economy and pay for an exit row seat.

      • Is this really true? I was planning a trip at the end of the year and was going to fly JQ business because it was about the same price as QF economy. I'm going to be flying out of BNE and QF are changing to HND and flying out at 6am or something crazy early so want to avoid having to book a hotel next to the airport or taking a taxi from Tokyo.

I would pay the extra for 2 seats rows (not 3), extra legroom, the ability to use the tray when the seat in front is reclined (almost had my laptop crushed on my last flight!). The food, priority boarding, etc, I don't care about.

        • +4

Personally I won't ever fly Jetstar again the so called business class was appalling & even if it was half the price again I still won't.I just been to Japan again I always fly into HND it so much easier to get around & saves the 1.5 hrs getting out of Narita .

          • @spock: agreed - once you go Haneda, you don't want Narita no mo'

The perks sound like what air travel used to be…

except the Comfort pack, what's a comfort pack … sounds like a fanny pack.

        • +1

It’s the blankie that they give you to help you recover (cope) with the trauma that you get for spending upwards of $800 for a flight that everyone else paid about $300 for through ‘deals’ for extra leg room.

    • +9

      Meals and snacks on request

What the hell is this nonsense

Need to hit the call button and beg for morsels

      • I think this means addition to the regular meal service. Don't know of any Jetstar Business (PE) trip reports that don't show at least 2 full meals on their services.

    • +4

A recliner (Premium Economy) seat, decent food, and unlimited drinks on an overnight flight for about $1000 is pretty good imho.

It's just not business, but good for the price.

    • Best rate for getting Qantas Status Credit, starts from $7.6/SC at the moment (compared to at least $12/SC when booking flights on Qantas even after x2 SC promo applied), and you can use the business lounge without being Qantas gold or higher status.

Also the ~7000 bonus Qantas points can be considered as $70 off (or higher when you book a reward flight).

      Priority boarding/disembarkation is a plus too🤷‍♂️

      • I think almost anyone who might book this would have lounge access via other means anyway. The meals do look slightly better than regular economy though, $1000 seems reasonable if you actually need a one way ticket.

    • It’s definately not what you would call it elsewhere.

I have done it before Mel to Singapore. Probably more premium economy

Seats are better, food was decent, cabin partitioned.

For the money or reward points it’s not horrible. Just not business for a full service

  • No business bargain from Melbourne?

  • +11

One tip, I just came back from Osaka. Make sure you eat dinner etc before going airside, so much more choice.

    • +2

Yes! I've not flown out of Narita, but while Haneda was great, Kansai airport was next level!

      • Should have mentioned I talking Kansai. We were really disappointed with food offering airside. FWP but went to one of the priority lounges which was the worst lounge I’ve ever been to, 1 prepaid sandwich, no shower and not even a toilet.

  • +7

Doesn't seems like a great deal. Its ~$700 return from Sydney to Osaka with only carry-on.

I wouldn't wanna be anywhere in Japan in August, except Hokkaido.

    • Ignorant question. Why is that?
What's a nice Asian country to go to for a couple in August?

      • +8

The weather - oppressively hot and humid in most of the major cities (except up north in Hokkaido, as @Phoebus mentioned).

      • +19

Asia in August - you really need to head further north than tokyo if you are in Japan or stay in in the central/mountainous parts of Honshu. Places like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto are not that good. Hot, crowded with tourists.

Best countries to visit are probably Indonesia and Malaysia. Singapore is fine as well (its hot all year round and August is no different so as good as any other month and not the wet season). Central vietnam is usually ok but if the monsoon comes early then you are stuffed. Most of the rest of Asia is either or both monsoonal rains or extremely hot. You can head into the mountains like Nepal or Tibet, its just at the end of their monsoon and the start of their best times, although end of August is safer.

If you absolutely had to go in August then suggest Malaysia - KL, across to Penang, maybe try one of the resorts. The west coast (Penang) is just starting monsoon so you should get their first and cross fingers, but it wont be too bad even if it rains. The east coast is pretty dry and thats where you would go for resorts. Then dip down to Singapore (if you can afford it).

Alternatively there is always Bali or find a tour through some of the less explored parts of Indonesia (you can self guide but a tour is much easier as travel isnt that easy)

Japan is fine but stay north of Tokyo - still plenty to see and do, just means you wont get to Kyoto and Osaka and dont spend much time in Tokyo either.

Edit: I have lived in Tokyo, HK, Singapore and spent time in China and all of those places are liveable over August. Just not comfortable nor places you want to be spending 5 hours a day walking around being a tourist. So you can certainly do it and survive, but you will enjoy other times of the year a lot more. Also August is peak European and US holiday times, so a lot of places (such as Japan) get even more crowded.

        • How is Japan in September? When does it get cooler?

          • @01011010: It depends on the year (it can vary a little) and the latitude. Most years the weather suddenly becomes very nice in early September, maybe a couple weeks later in far southern Japan. So for Tokyo about mid September to be sure. I reckon the best time to travel to Japan is in November when the trees have all the autumn colors and it's nice and cool for tourist walks and even mountain hikes.

          • @01011010: September is in the typhoon season. You may not get one (usually there are 'only' 2-4 a year that hit Honshu); but if you do then its 2 to 3 days of staying in one place at minimum. The weather is otherwise fine. Typhoons tend to mostly be south but can hit lots of other places https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2117.html

if you have any choice, March/April is the best time; it also may co incide with cherry blossom season. This can make certain places very crowded, but overall its no worse than any other months (ie its not actually the peak time for overseas tourists, but there are a lot of local tourists but only to specific cherry blossom places).

    jetstar sucks

  • Which cairn can you fly from?

  • +9

Friends recently flew from Brisbane to Narita in 'business class' on Jetstar. The complimentary inflight entertainment system was stuffed/turned off, no apology. Between that and cancellations/schedule changes at the drop of a hat, I'd rather pay a little more for ANA or JAL.

    • +1

Me too, if JAP or ANA flew to BNE.

  • +1

    i just flew jetstar a week ago - bris—> narita, narita—>cairns—>bris

    it was fine.

left on time, arrived on time.

I'm 185cm tall and it wasn't exactly roomy for me in my seat.

i took all my own food on the plane (subway 12" going to Japan, onigiri on the return - narita airport has great and inexpensive eating options so I had a good meal., cairns airport is better than brisbane airport for dining options and price)

  • -4

It is a one way ticket, search Japan July 5th.

    • +1

      Put down the crack pipe.

  • +6

I'm not really sure how this is really considered a "sale". At least for Brisbane into Narita.

$429 one way and then another $629 on the way back. This costs more than it normally does? It often sits closer to 850 return out of Brisbane for the dates selected?

  • What's jetstar business class international like? Has anyone actually used it?

    • +2

Flew HBA > SIN for about 50k points. Only the MEL > SIN flight was business.

It was the best experience I've had with Jetstar (not that there are ever great experiences) and the 8 hour flight felt like nothing.
Wide and fairly comfy seats, plenty of leg room, vodka and coke delivered whenever my glass was empty. Fairly decent food options + snacks whenever I asked.
Got to board first and exit first - made me feel bad walking past the economy passengers who probably had a cramped and draining flight whereas I was bright and perky.

I'd happy fly it again for long haul, especially for only 50k Qantas points + $250~.

  • +4

I can only speak for myself. I have flown Jetstar 8 times to Tokyo (so 16 flights) out of Brisbane and Gold Coast. Only once was there a delay, out of 16 flights. I do read a lot of information about the bad experiences that people have with Jetstar but I can honestly say apart from the one time, it has been good.
Even to take it further, I have also flown Jetstar domestically and to other international locations for years, all without issue.
On the other side, I have also flown other airlines without issues as well.
I completely understand that everyone has different expectations, wants and needs. Just my two cents.

Unfortunately I have never flown business class, but I always choose seats with better leg room, like the exits or an isle.

I agree with some of the comments, that this is not the best pricing. I would consider Brisbane to Tokyo return around $600 with 20kg checked to be a sale.

    • +1

All about the stats, if approximately 1% of Jetstar's 300–400 daily domestic flights are delayed, and each flight carries around 180 passengers, then about 540 to 720 passengers would be affected by delays each day. If 10% of the delayed Jetstar passengers giving bad reviews, they will be getting 50-70 negative reviews for that day. The customers from the 99% non-delay flights will rarely write reviews since arriving on time is the expectation.

    • +1

Similar here, 5 times to Japan, mostly Gold Coast but once from Cairns, all with Jetstar. Only issue was a slight delay because the Narita runway was covered in snow.
Most times was with oversized baggage too.
Only other Japan related flight issue was on return Qantas being so slow to check people in that I missed my domestic flight home from Brisbane. Like there were 2 people in line (I was the second) and it took almost an hour for me to get checked in.
Now that I think about it Qantas has pretty consistently (profanity) me around, usually with canceled flights with barely any notice. Oh 6:30 am flight, lets send you an email at 12:30 am, or maybe a text at 5:45am. Jetstar has actually been consistently good for me.

      • I hate it when they (profanity) me around …

  • I've done a Biz Class seat from Narita to BNE - was on points. Was fine. Ate, drank, slept.

    Would do again, no worries.

    • done the same and had excellent crew
Free flow of snack and alcohol is excellent value and we tried all the snack items on the menu for free as part of the Biz.

  • I haven't travelled Jetstar business, but it seems a lot like Qantas Premium economy but cheaper.. and Qantas PE is not bad internationally if you can snag a deal.

  • will they give me carpet like on cathay pacific

  • just checked this deal for SYD-NRT 19 Nov out, 10 Dec back - $900 …

ANA is prolly $1200 - do we want to linger in Cairns for hours - yeah nah thanks
