  • It seems like a good spec for the price.

  • +8

Please note the laptop RTX 5070 GPU only has 8GB while the desktop has 12GB.

    • +2

its a laptop version of the video card too you're not going to get anywhere near the performance of the desktop equivalent

      • +2

Being a laptop version has nothing to do with skimping on vram that is just Nvidia knowing there is 0 competition so you get what they feed you, regardless of that, you are still going to have a sh*t house time when the vram buffer runs out, even more so on a laptop with slower RAM speeds. IMO if it's 70class and up card regardless of it being laptop or desktop it should have 12-16gb vram. There are now games that struggle at 1080p medium/high (panel is 1600p so good luck with that)… i want something i paid $2.5k which is aimed purely at gaming to do better than that.

        • can't can OC versions on a laptop version and yes I understand the limits of the vram on it, but if they gave you a 5070 Ti they woudl have added another 1000 on to the price.

    • +3

After being with a 3060 laptop and running into the 6GB VRAM limit plenty when it still have the performance to spare definitely can't support/recommend this kind of VRAM limit… A 5070 laptop will easily want more than 8GB.

    • +3

My RTX 2070 laptop has 8GB. No need to upgrade. Wait for 16GB.

    • Yep, that’s a pretty standard difference, and laptop GPU ≠ desktop GPU. It’s been that way for over 15 years

      • +1

That's not really the point being made. VRAM is just a nasty catch to kneecap these GPUs. Even a laptop 5070 will easily want more VRAM so it's just artificially limiting your usage. 8GB will absolutely limit you with this GPU.

But also Miss the GTX 1060 where they were actually the same between desktop and laptop. (Obviously slight differences in power and clock speeds because of power but sub 10% FPS difference in most cases)

  • +7

As (profanity) up as the desktop GPU market is, at least we’re not paying nearly $2500 for an 8gb GPU.

NV’s mobile GPU monopoly has totally ruined the gaming laptop market.

    • +1

You mean the mobile dGPU market, right?
Integrated graphics are better than ever, especially thanks to Apple, Intel and AMD stepping up their game.

      • +2

        Ryzen Z1 Extreme and 780m
        *chefs kiss

    • +1

TBF, Intel and AMD aren't doing much either to alleviate that.

  • Lenovo pro? Any special access portal?

    • looks like it's the Business portal? i don't know any details on if its open to all or just ABN holders etc.

  • Unfortunately Legion 5i (15", Gen 10) is not available

  • +1

15.1" screen??? Thats something new to me! Its also available with 5060 at $2679 via their normal site which I can't access Pro site anyway:
    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion…

    • +1

Oh wow apparently it wasn’t a good deal then lol

    • -1

How is it not a good deal compared to this one that got +20 likes and it’s going to be about $3300 for a high end current gen mobile gpu and a free $700 RRP monitor ? Plus I got $1125 in Lenovo rewards combined with another purchase I made for a friend of mine that will probably let me get the Legion Go S for free once it’s finalised

      • Hey @Sr1993e …how did you get that price? Looking to invest in a 7i with a 5090 myself, but cant get anywhere near the price you got!

        • They had a deal that I bought for my friend in April and asked them to price match it again, took some time to approve it by the manager :)

          • @Sr1993e: Oh nice, congrats mate - getting a 7i with a 5090 for less than 5k feels like a steal!

Any chance you can send me a screenshot or something with your quote so I can try and price match?

            • @jasonk87: Tbh with you I spoke with almost all of the representatives for many times over phone and even the manager knows my name, I’m worried if I do that they might just cancel my order, haven’t received it yet. After I do get it I’m happy to send it, plese note that it was the education store as well

  • Should the price be $2,556 for the 1TB storage?

Edit: Appears you are correct, they add in $108 support which doesnt appear you can remove.

    • and OP choosed the bigger as well which increase the price to more than $2700

  • Is there a 14.1" equivalent of this? Thanks

    • +1

No news of a 14 inch Legion this generation so far. I imagine with the Legion 5 now at 15.1 inches, there isn't much room for a 14 inch version anymore.

    • 35.6cm (14" for US metric illiterates ;) for ruining your eyes. Huawei MateBook Fold has 45.7cm diag. folding laptop & 7.3mm thin, 14.9mm folded & smaller to carry than your 35.6cm wish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKY9L0mjW7Y

      • Love the concept but at $3.3k USD, I'll pass!

  • Uhhhhh…. This seemed like a good deal. Anyone grab one before it expired?

  • I can't seem to add to cart!

    • I was just able to add it to my cart

  • +1

Just ordered one and mine came to $2,575.99. This was with all upgrades. There is also 10% cashback.

Not sure if the cashback will go through though, since this is the Pro store

    • Did it have the $1 monitor add on or is it not available with this?

      • +1

This one doesn't have the offer

    • Has it shipped yet? Mine had estimated ship date of yesterday, but now has changed to the 14th

  • Still using my legion with the 4070, its been a great machine all up, sure itd be nice it the GPU had more vram, but its still been pretty solid considering the price and its a laptop

  • good price, i guess. but

    5070 Laptop GPU 8GB ewwww 8

  • Better choice on the education store? You can get this spec for 2,699.10, (plus 16” 1000hdr screen) but it comes with the free (well, $1) monitor option (Add Lenovo Legion R27qe 27-inch 2K QHD Monitor to your system ( +$1.00 ) $359.10 if purchased separately and ships in 6-9 days.

    • Do you have a link by any chance?

  • Is it wrong I would want a more efficient CPU on this laptop? I would use it like 80% of the time for work, but I would love a laptop that could also run the odd game here or there too.

    • +1

If that's the case, I would look at AMD or Intel Ultra options but atm they seem to be going for much more than 2.5k with similar specs. I am in the same boat as you but decided to pull the trigger as I will be using this plugged in 90% of the time.

The real deciding factor is whether you need a device to last longer than 4hrs on battery, otherwise the performance between i9, ultra and AMD are negligible.

      • Yeah… I will need the battery to last longer than 4hrs :'( I will use it most of the time plugged in, but about once a week I take it off, and need like 6+ minimum, but more is obviously better. I also want ideally 14" as i'll travel a bit with it too.

  • 80Wh Battery (should be 90-100Wh), no inbuilt fingerprint reader (my 5yo laptop has that built in- mandatory these days with password managers), and only 8Gb GPU (come on!).

Lenovo needs to get with the program and into this decade regarding specs. If you want an inbuilt fingerprint reader, you need to go to their ThinkPad range with integrated graphics. Junk.
