Use gift card to get donkey Kong.

    • +4

This actually makes me tempted to cancel my other pre order and order it from old Gerry..

      • +1

That's what I did the first time this deal came around last month!

    • 10% in cash back would have been better lol

    • +2

And price match JB or somewhere else where it's $99.

  • -7

I am still waiting this below $630.
    The first sale was $629

    • For the bundle, if so, when and where?

If you mean just the console its $696 with a $69.60 gift card so that cost of the console would be $626.40?

    • HN has the standard console with the same promo too
      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/nintendo-switch-2-console.ht…

    • -5

it will when they realized sales are too low. my bet is black Friday in November it will drop. or christmas boxing day.

      • +2

It will sell better than the PS5 pro and at the most the price of that has only dropped $100.
Not to mention the first wave of US pre orders sold out. Maybe black friday 2028.

      • +7

How much are you willing to bet? Delusional to think this isn't going to sell like mad, I've pre-ordered it for the kids (and me) for Christmas already, only the chronically online think this is overpriced and won't sell.

I remember the PS3 releasing at $700 back in what, 2007 or so? Couldn't find one anywhere. The backwards compatible version released at around $1000 from memory. Double those prices in today's money

Switch 2 is like $150 more than the OLED Switch 1 is still selling for today, and fully backward compatible, and the only way to play the new Mario Kart/DK games. These prices aren't going down

        • -1

all the first in people will buy them (mostly collectors) and then the smarter people will move in and buy them for a good price. its how it always works with these things.

          • +8

@kungfuman: Yes I just got a bargain on a ford model T, now I can see what the fuss is about with these automobiles.

          • +1

@kungfuman: Smarter people they say 🤣

            You must be extremely pleasant

          • -1

@kungfuman: Smarter people got the v1 switch and installed cfw

        • Tell that to my Wii u… what a waste of money

      • +3

        They're pre-ordering like hot cakes.

The only people who are saying that it won't sell are the people who are outraged over the price.

        • -1

you are assuming they had enough stock to begin with most likely they did this on purpose to make it look like they sold out.

      • +1

Japan alone already sold over 2m preorders already lmao, do you live in reality or just reddit?

        • preorders doesn't = allocated stock. Some times they over allocate and end up cancelling peoples preorders. That is reality.

          • @kungfuman: Perhaps, or they get a call when their order or more stock comes in. Depends if it's a limited edition bundle but I'd say a lot of retailers are offering it.

Will be cheaper in within a year anyway.

          • @kungfuman: did you already forget your original comment? This thing isnt going to be heavily discounted because its not going to sell, its already selling a lot.

        • People preorder consoles expecting them to sell out with the intention of them scalping them. If they didn't sell out, it'd mean even the scalpers had 0 confidence. The question is whether or not they were right about the demand/scalp-ability. Which we'll see soon.

          • @Ryven:

People preorder consoles expecting them to sell out with the intention of them scalping them

Yeah no one is preordering consoles for themselves, that would be crazy /s

          • @Ryven: Yeah it's pretty rubbish but there will be a lot of deals and continue to get cheaper. Can't see there is heaps to be made on them when they're already this expensive.

Some people actually want them. Sounds like first in best dressed and hard to know if they'll be restocked.

  • +6

$766 for a Nintendo console? They've lost the plot.

    • -3

      Absolutely. Insane

    • +9

It's got all the franchises we care about.

      • Another chance to re-buy all the games you've been re-buying since the GameCube. This time it's in 1080P and only dips to 7FPS occasionally.

    • +2

This is a bundle, standard console is $700, likely to go on sale for $630.
Both are lower-priced than the PS5 digital edition, which only allows PS Store purchases.

      • Is it true with the Switch 2 the carts don't even hold the games? So if you buy the carts you just get to pay more than digital for the same experience of having to download them entirely? So, a digital console with extra steps.

    • -3

yeah its not like your getting a PS5 or anything for that lol.

      • +7

Its not like you will be using a PS5 on a plane.

        • +7

But if you close your eyes you can pretend the PS5 is a plane.

      • +10

The PS5 has terrible battery life compared to the Switch.

    • +6

But that's a good price for the other consoles? People whinge about consoles but drop 4 figures on a GPU.

      • +6

No you don't understand. A Nintendo shouldn't cost $700 because it's a children's toy. It doesn't matter that it is similarly priced to a steam deck and is more powerful, it's a children's toy so it should only cost $200. Other consoles are not children's toy's of course.

        • +3

Of course, how silly of me.

        • +1

the Switch OLED itself was 549 on release if people thought this was gonna be cheaper they were high

Not to mention they likely adjusted for tariffs, the consoles are mostly made in China Vietnam etc

          • @Freestyle: It's people just parroting social media. The console price in Australia is very good, $700 including GST is 10% lower than the USA and Europe.

Considering the median income in Australia they could have charged us 10% more than other countries like the 'Australia tax' we usually pay on other goods - I.e. $900.

Prices were set before tarrifs and haven't changed, in the USA they have increased the price of accessories.

    • +1

What should they cost? Nothing is cheaper each year. People are quick to pay 2k for a phone they don't need so it's just another purchase. All games are backwards compatible.

I got the switch last year for a ridiculous price (and don't use it that much) so not about to upgrade anyway.

A lot like phones, the current one you got is probably still fine for ages.

  • +1

I just purchased the standalone console this morning with some leftover gift cards, also topped up with new gift cards from Macquarie marketplace. This page is very helpful.

    • -1

Basically turns out to be $599 for standard console with the 4% hn gift card and the 10% cash back gc from HN

      Not bad

Should I bite or wait further?
Want to get 5x switches for the household

      • +1

3 grand on NS2 is ridiculous. Surely it would be better to buy 1 or 2 max and then wait for a better deal that arrives. Maybe MK will become free like it was with the NS1

      • +1

I think if you really want to play Mario Kart on day 1, then sure. Otherwise I'm sure eventually deals will come and will be more worth it.

For me, I just want to use up my Harvey Norman gift cards because they're expiring soon. I could've waited until the next Smash or Pokemon is out.

By the way, do you want to adopt me?

        • Whats the max number of gift cards redeemable at HN online?

    • Hey mate, wondering how soon after you purchased did the gift cards come through?

  • +1

Are there any active Colesworth 10% giftcard deals going at the moment? I purchased a bunch a while back, but have managed to add on another $100 in accessories I wouldn't mind grabbing a gift card for…

  • +1

This is a really good deal, I assume most people will be able to immediately use the gift card to pick up a game or accessory.

A true Ozbargainer would pay with discounted eGiftcards to get another 4% off (and if they have any overseas travel planned use the Tourist Refund Scheme to make it all GST free).

    • Does anyone know if the invoice gets issued immediately for the pre-order or only when the console ships?

I've got travel coming up but I'm just a few weeks outside of the 60 day window

      • +1

I ordered one yesterday online, no tax invoice yet. The order confirmation email has that as step 4 in the process. My order is up to Step 2.

        1 ORDER RECEIVED

        2 BACK ORDER

        3 IN TRANSIT

        4 Tax Invoice

I am going O/S in July so going to take this with me and claim TRS.

    • +1

The HardlyNormal store rep said the gift card might come through a 'couple of hours' after picking up the console in the previous deal.

But yeah, I'm already browsing another game/accessory myself.

      • +1

correct for online orders, we can give the gift card out in store immediately after the full deposit (if order is cancelled, we refund minus gift card value)

  • Pull the trigger or wait? Hmmmmm

    • +3

Yes, it's not going to get much cheaper this year, the hype value will be off the charts for the next few months.

      • Cheers. Will poke around to find some discounted gift cards in the meantime.

  • +1

JB managed to match this offer for me (tried 2 stores, only one agreed)

    • Did you use discounted JB gift cards for payment?

    • Price match the difference of 3 dollars?

      • +4

Yes I used a mix of JB / mastercard gift cards from the Econnex deal for payment.
They matched this HN gift card deal - just with JB gift cards instead on collection of order, which is noted on my receipt. Store manager had to approve the deal.

        • This is the way.

          • @boredofficeworker: didnt realize i was double dipping - thanks now it feels even more like a deal as I wasnt 100% sure about my preorder.
was just thinking of using some JB gift cards from other deals.

        • Any chance you're able to upload proof of purchase for us to show to JB to match the deal? No worries if you cannot.

          • +2

@toxicat: How do you upload photos here? In any case im not sure if that will help - from what I gather it seems to be really store specific and case by case basis.
My experience: rang up store > guy got manager's approval > went in store to order > a different bloke was there and said they dont do it > I went back home and called the store, told them what happened > got the guys name and went back into store > got the deal done. All in one day

  • So tempted to cancel my Eb games preorder lol

    • Do you have to go in-store for that?

  • +1

Managed to price match Costco at JB Hifi for the Mario Kart bundle.
    JB 769.99
    Costco $749
Used JB Perk for $10 off down to $739
Then used Reward Gate 5% off JB voucher to get it down to
    $702.05 (includes CC surcharge)

    Hope this helps someone!

    • What the JB Perk? The sign up one? That doesn't include Game Consoles.

      • Likely the JB Perk birthday coupon

        • Then you need to physically go in, deal with someone and hope they do it

    • I’ll try that if I’m travelling so I get trs back

  • +1

Naa, stuff Gerry, I’d rather pay full price at Jb than give that kook any money.

    • +6

price match at JB, win win win

    • -3

      😢

  • Considering Woolies are ending the 10% monthly Big W discount, going to use that plus my rewards points to get Donkey Kong plus some accessories, then wait for the console to drop.

    • Don't work on consoles

      • Works on everything under $500 price

  • So I’m guessing it won’t sell out for launch, given no retailer have updated their pre order dates

    • +2

That's mostly only happening in stores outside of Australia. Mostly America and UK from what I've heard.
Seems we Australians must have a warehouse of switches enough to fill every order without issues.

A shame this couldn't be the case back years ago with the PS5.

    • +1

we are receiving more stock than preordered

      • Are preorders lower than expected or is supply greater than expected?

        • -1

          Take a wild guess.

Seems with all the backlash towards this store less people are getting switches from them compared to other stores. Damn hilarious.
Soon they'll have to start selling at a discount to convince people to come their way.

          • @RocketToSpace: you answered this question in your previous response…
our stores definitely perform a hell of a lot better than EBGames, who get the most preorders.

            • @HardlyNormal: That just confused me a lot. if you're doing better than EB Games why do they have more preorders than you guys then? I'm just going with what you just said because the way that's sounded it sounds like EB Game is doing far better than you guys.

… As much as I hate EB Games and I hate them being successful than most stores and honestly wish other stores would do better than them. The prices of games from EB Games is $10-$20 more than other stores which honestly pisses me off and people still buy them at disgusting prices.

If you guys were to drop the switch 2 by $10-$20 compared to other stores then you guys would 100% be getting more and more preorders.

              • +1

@RocketToSpace: EB are doing amazing selling a $0 profit product, nintendo are the ones milking it off of the games and subscriptions
we perform well in gaming with our aggressive prices, plenty of HN game and console deals aka this one. we afford these prices by making plenty of money elsewhere.

                • -2

@HardlyNormal: Are you trolling me? "We perform well in gaming with our aggressive prices" You gotta be trolling me and I'm falling for it lol.
Maybe I should have taken the name "HardlyNormal" more seriously :P

                  • @RocketToSpace: search, “harvey ps5” or, “harvey switch” and see all the gaming deals. customers go out of their way to buy games from us. don’t be ignorant

        • +1

supply is greater, nintendo pretty good with supply though

  • When do you receive the gift card?

  • The legend at my local HN did it for $750. I then used the 75 back to purchase Nintendo eshop credits.

    • Wait you got your card already?

  • Thanks OP - thought I’d try my luck at JBhifi

I technically scored each switch 2 for $556.8

Walked into my local JBhifi and managed obtain a price match of the HN deal through the lady manager. I just had to show some skin & flex my muscles a lil lol ;)

I paid with the 20x reward gift card that currently on at Woolies I obtained nearby after the negotiation

basically each switch 2 was matched to the HN deal $696 + 10% in JBhifi gift card ($69.60) plus return of $69.60 in EDR points (20x $696 in TCN gift card) resulting in a saving of $139.2

    $696 - $139.2 = $556.80 each (down from $696) per standard switch 2

I’m happy with this deal per the non MKW switch 2 bundle
Plus $70 in rewards points for each switch 2 at Woolies

I got away with this deal I guess because of the 5x switches 2 lol

    • +2

Even more big brain move is to purchase under different order so you can use the 10% gift card from first order on second order haha

      • +2

That’s right - scored 5x gift cards each $69.6 (each as a seperate transaction)

Cards are issued on switch 2 pickup on release date though. Will be useful for other stuff like games etc on the day
