  • Are these a good laptop?

    • Picked one up from a previous deal posted here, it's definitely a laptop, performance is as you'd expect. Probably just be my unit but two main issues - trackpad loses sensitivity or stops working altogether now and again. The other, I'm not sure if its the coating on the screen or if it's the backlight/panel but at lower brightness there's a pretty clear outline I guess?

Keep it around because it's <1kg and plastic.

There were 10 items available when posted

oh please, this in 15" or bigger screen sizes !

    • It's a portege ultra portable….not meant to be in bigger formats.

  • counting down … now only 2 available

    • +1

I see 8 available. Never trust ebay stock numbers.

      • +1

You're right. When I looked it said 2 left. You posted, so I looked again, and it said 7 available.

@GordonD: Well the refurbished are out of stock now. This was a good deal. First decent laptop deal ive seen in a while on OzB. Most others are still trying to sell 8th gen intels for 300+.

OOS, going to post a deal tomorrow for some Dell and Acer notebooks.

    • Order placed 18/05, Marked my order as shipped with no tracking, any idea how long will it take for delivery to arrive Melbourne?

      • +1

Going to need a little info mate. Shoot me a pm with your order details and I’ll have the teams look into it for you

    • Hi sorry to piggyback but in terms of the "used" models still available — aside from the examples of bios lock or faulty usb or ethernet port, are they in poor cosmetic condition generally (e.g. scratches or dead pixels on screen) and when you say battery can be <80% is there generally an absolute worst case scenario floor (like say 50%)?

      • +3

other i can tolerate but bios lock is not good. should separate the lots of bios lock and cosmetics.

        • -2

It depends on the batch. TBH bios lock isn’t the end of the world as long as everything that is needed is active.

        • +4

I didn't notice that, that's a dealbreaker. Can't justify spending that much on a laptop when you don't know how the bios was setup and you have no ability to change it.

          • @slimpickings: yep sadly a lot people dont even know what bios is thats why they can get away selling locked bios

            • @McMaferMur: Serious issue when you can't boot from usb….
Cannot change power settings (HP mainly set at bios)

              • @edgar28: and cant update bios… yeah like i said i dont mind scratches on body i will put decal on top, but bios is different league

    • Any chance on some desktops sales as well?

  • Got one last time and they were a nice solid unit, did get hot and fans would spin up easily, and the battery life wasn't great
Most annoying thing is it wouldn't sleep when closing it, maybe a windows 11 bug

    • +4

      The i5-1135G7 is 11th gen.

  • got one, tnx!

  • +7

Wow, was 399 before… Jack to 439 then provide discount

    • +6

Yeah noticed this. Followed this unit before. Was as low as 320 just the other day via ebay+. They jacked both the 'very good' and the 'used' condition models to match the ebay sales. Makes me wanna not consider them for my next refurb purchase..

      • +1

        Jack's back! 😜

      • +4

And the "very good" condition isn't that either. Scratches everywhere and feet missing. Looks mistreated so returned mine.

        • Hmm now im worry if i should gamble with the used condition. Broken usb port.. thats should be grade D

          • @McMaferMur: Look at past 2 years' post comments about this seller. It's a lucky draw.

Good thing is easy return from eBay, many chose not to buy direct from them now

            • @edgar28: hmm for 199 i may try but not sure 265+ (i dont have ebay plus now)

              • @McMaferMur: I'm referring to the very good condition - is a lucky draw…. Used condition is not

I got this recently. My comment in the other deal:

The plastic body gives some serious flex - but I guess that's how the weight is kept down.

    Inside it looks very good:
    - keyboard looks basically unused
    - some minor scratches on the palmrests that are only visible under light reflections
    - no imprints on screen (UPDATE: now having it squished in my bag, inprints are starting to appear but I haven't tried wiping them away)
    - hinge also feels flimsy but I think that normal

Outside is a bit worse but acceptable:
    - missing a front foot as well, although doesn't seem to make it wobbly
    - the longer rubber foot thing has some serious wear/peeling - might see what i can do about that somehow….
    - on the lid can see where a sticker has been removed - not because there's still residue but because its a different shade of grey in that area (as though it was never exposed to the sun)

Battery I'll need to test when I get home though, I cbf doing Windows setup while at work to check but given the rest of the condition I'll expect the battery life is OK.

Came with a Dell branded USB-C charger.

    I'm happy enough with it.

Its also thicker than I'd like, even though I love the weight of it.

  • Its been a week and my order hasn't even been dispatched…..
