Kraken is currently running a referral promotion for new users. If you sign up using a referral link and trade at least $200 AUD worth of crypto, both you and the referrer will receive $100 AUD in Bitcoin.

  • I recommend using Up with PayID for the $200 deposit (and ANZ may/may not work), since ING and CBA may hold the transfer for 24 hours.

  • After buying the A$200 BTC, I instantly received a reward notification for the A$100 BTC.

Tip 1: To pay lower fees on buying/selling, get the Kraken+ trial and then cancel it after.
Update - Tip 2: Some users have mentioned that you need to ensure that you enter the referral code on signup, if it doesn't automatically populate. The referral code appears on the referral link. If it automatically populates, as it did for me, you don't need to bother with the code.

    FWIW, I've referred family member with previous week's $100 BTC referral link and code, they topped up $200 and completed $200 trade, and we both got the email.

    "Thanks for referring a friend! We're thrilled to announce that you and your friend have both qualified to receive the 100.00 AUD in BTC bonus!"

    I'd suggest using a $100 BTC link than a $50 one.

    Oh man, they probably got $7 from each person who signed up right? I bought $200 BTC and sold for $193 immediately, so they must have taken some cut even with the "fee free" Kraken plus thing.

    Pretty disappointing. Maybe OP should have waited until they got their bonus to post, but then miss out on potential referrals.

      Seems silly to show Australian users the whole time they are eligible for the bonus, send emails saying they will get the bonus, encourage them to invite people for more bonus and then deny it.
      By silly, I mean scammy, of course.

          The bonus payout is a fixed amount of $20 in your default currency. This could be €20 worth of BTC, CA$20 of BTC, $20 USDG).

          There's too many referral programs with differing T&C, who knows which one is accurate and which one they'll choose. At the end of the day, in the first T&C you linked they state the bonus is effectively at their discretion. So they can just decide not to award any bonuses regardless of the rest of the T&C.

    kraken now has free personal information including id for free now.

    I am still cautiously optimistic of getting paid. Live chat saying ineligible/not paying out etc may be wrong. There would be a good level of automation with referral bonus payments from Kraken end around the 14 day wait, so we will probably know a lot more in 6/7 hours if we see payments start flowing in, or nothing..Fingers crossed

    They told me i broke the TOS as the person who referred me has duplicate accounts, and that they "review" every account

    Can I suggest people stop raising this with customer service until the deadline has passed?

    There is a good chance these referral bonuses are somewhat automated. The more people draw attention to this the more likely Kraken is to start reviewing every referral and finding excuses to disallow.

    Customer support has a few responses

    1. Not entitled to promotion due to being in Australia, this is sus and sounds not true

    2. Void the TOS but not state how, sus

    3. Void TOS but state the person whonreferred you has multiple accounts, so not valid to promotion, breeders that does not explain not getting referrals for others

    They did mention to get the person who referred you to contact support, most people cant do that, but i cojld understand if this was one or two, but considering no one's got their referrals, i think this is an excuse they using

    After I made contact to three referrals not being credited AUD100 worth of BTC. Pretty disappointing really. Seems they really are not honouring this promo, otherwise there would have been quite a few people by now confirming they received their BTC.

    Bit Trade Pty Ltd (ACN 163 237 634) is the operator of Kraken in Australia. They are not registered with AFCA though they hold AFSL so you can't raise a complaint with AFCA. Someone tried to obtain evidence how ASIC provided exemption to them to not hold AFCA membership under Freedom of Information but no document could be located and their request was declined.

    ASIC: Report misconduct via link below. ASIC is likely going to take action if all of us raise complaint as it's systematic issue where Kraken provided misleading and deceptive by confirming in writing that we will be receiving the referral within 14 days after sign up of each referral. The referral email clearly stated that we will be getting A$100 in BTC within 14 days.

    OAIC: Raise a privacy complaint as Kareken had no intention to provide referral bonus and they solicited information to bump up their accounts. They sought all sort of personal information including photo and ID copies. In my view, they breached APP3.

        That makes sense, I used a random code from the pool at the top of the page to sign up on 02/06/25 and then added my own code there so another random user must have used my code successfully. Everyone should get their bonuses too since I did nothing different. I never reached out to Kraken since 14 days hadn't passed for me yet.

        I only have one referral bonus, recieved about an hour ago. This was potentially the bonus from the referral link I signed up with.

        I have not received anything for the other 10+ referrals, a few of which include close friends.

          I assume you would have reached at least 10 referrals (10 email confirmations) in the first day of posting this deal… or check how many email confirmations you got in the first day.. and see by tomorrow how many gets paid out.
