Does it need to be activated by a certain period for the cashback?

    • -1

      Seconding this

    • +2

I bought two from previous deals and activated them after they paid out.

      • Is this a trap: CashRewards states 'Service must maintain an active recharge state for 90 days post activation'

  • @Big-Deal, pls consider listing ALL the criteria that must-be-meet, eg https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/904744

I understand '1st ever sign-up' criteria was needed for Optus-money-back deals? Has this changed to 'new services only' & sited-> https://www.optus.com.au/prepaid/sim-plans?irclickid=Su-w1-z…

    • Listed now by mod I guess

  • +6

$12 is probably the most you should trust Optus to return to you via ShopBack / Cash Rewards.

Ask these two questions before buying from Optus: how many meals would I lose when they don't pay out & how much do I mind having my personal data leaked?

    • +3

And how much time am I prepared to waste chasing them if the cashback isn’t honoured?

      • +2

        Thats real work.

    • +1

Good advice generally but just chiming in to say my last $100 Optus/Cashrewards tracked and paid out fine. Tracked 20/11/24, paid 06/03/25.

  • Tracked in 2 min. But I don’t know if it is 30 days to activate the physical sim?

  • +2

Warning these Sims don't work in a 4g modem after a while, Optus detects that it's a modem somehow and gives an error saying this plan/sim is only for phones. Can still hotspot off a phone just a bit of a hassle.

    • +1

Best way to bypass this is to buy a GL.net router & tether a phone to it so it shows up with a phones IMEI https://www.ozbargain.com.au/brand/gl-inet1 All the Gl.net routers use what is basically openWRT so they are super flexible.

If a good NBN deal comes up I can swap to that for a few months using the same router, nothing on my home network needs to change. It also has auto fail-over if you want a landline with a mobile backup but dont want to be locked into a carrier router.

I have a flint 2 with an old phone & can swap in a fresh sim each month without issue. Works great for carriers that block non-phone usage like Felix too.

  • "Cashback is paid once per order/transaction, regardless of the number of plans purchased on that order."
if i made 2 separate order, will i get 2 cashback?

    • +1

I think so, I bought 2, tracked twice

    • Yeah just need to act as a new optus customer each time

      • Clarify-> 'act as a new optus customer each time'.

        Also, post noted 8-Jun-25 expire-date. But optus noted 'Ends 30/06/25' ? https://www.optus.com.au/prepaid/sim-plans?irclickid=Su-w1-z…

        • Still uncertain about expiry, but CR mentions:

Up to $150 cashback on Optus Prepaid sims.
T&C apply. See the store's website for more information and always check the store's page on Cashrewards for qualifying purchase information.

          Expires: Jun 8, 2025, 11:59:00 PM

Optus cashback!! You have been warned!

    • Waiting for 10 minutes, not track yet….

  • +1

It took forever however I just received my $100 cashback last week (via cash rewards) from an Optus Sim purchased back on 01/12/2024

    • Do you need to follow up with email or it will tracked after long long time?

  • +1

I had to contact them as it never tracked

    • aiks… still waiting my order to be tracked :(

  • +1

    Thanks OP

  • +2

Tracked using iOS app within 3 minutes.

  • -1

I read all these T&C, but could not find the time frame, 30days? anyone has idea?

    • Activate included SIM within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions.

Plans may no longer be available or may have changed if you do not activate your SIM within 30 days of purchase.

  • +7

I entrusted all my personal Identification details to a company run by LNP rejects and they ended up on the dark web for sale.

  • +1

Tracked with browser in 8mins, not bad.

  • Any one experienced approval of cashback even without activation?

  • +1

Tracked via app within 8mins. Thanks to others reporting their track/no track status.

Looks like I won't have to chase up initial tracking with Cashrewards this time.

    • +1

Likewise around 8 minutes, which was a pleasant surprise considering CR's form with Optus. I screencapped every single step of the purchase process just in case.

  • +2

Bought 2 and both tracked within 10 minutes

    • +1

      Same here, cheers OP

  • After 5 hours still no luck :(

    • Did u use app or website?

      • website

        • I did it through app. Tracked pretty quickly

    • +1

Are you already with Optus with the same email Id you used to purchase this?

  • Does new sign up means new optus customers or new number

    • +3

      New number.

  • I just realized in the Cashrewards app, there are two types of Optus cashbacks, “Optus Prepaid SIM” and “Optus Postpaid Mobile” (see screenshot below). If I accidentally clicked on “Optus Postpaid Mobile” for this deal, will it still work?

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/217669/121910/img_4882…

    • +2

No it won't unless you bought a postpaid plan

      • +1

        Bugger.

        Thanks heaps.

        • Did it track for you? I'm not sure if it matters because it has prepaid plans listed on cashrewards even if you click the postpaid link.

          • @jon: I does matter.

I tried another order with the correct “Optus Prepaid SIM” and it pretty much tracked immediately, but the wrong one still hasn’t tracked.

  • -1

Anyone know the date when must this SIM be activated by before the SIM expires?

    • +1

Activate included SIM within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions.

Plans may no longer be available or may have changed if you do not activate your SIM within 30 days of purchase.

  • eSim exclusion has bren removed from Cashrewards site.

    • Thanks updated

    • god damn I just bought the physical sim for the 365 plan earlier on tuesday -_-

      • You can always convert to esim afterwards right

        • I refused the delivery cos Amaysim offered me 50% discount on my plan renewal lol.

          • @CVonC: Do you think they'll refund you

            • +1

@Big-Deal: Yeah I called them first. They told me to refuse it.

  • I ordered one on Saturday and received it on Tuesday. My delivery address is in QLD (visiting) but my driver licence is Victorian one. Delivery guy questioned me and wasn't friendly. I had a similar experience at Aus Post when the lady almost refuse to give me my parcel.

Now I want to order another sim card. If I use my name to order but later on activate it using family member's name, am I gping to have problem to receive cashback? Anyone order more than 1 using their own name and receive more than one cashback in the past? Thanks.

    • That is none of delivery guy's or Aus post's business so don't worry

Yeah no problem they're not gonna look at your name for cashback, if anything they are going to look at email address to decide if a new customer. So just to be safe use different emails for multiple orders

      • Ok, thanks and I will use a different email com. I am going to annoy the delivery guy again.

  • +1

Damm delivery! it was go thru with startrack (aupost), I wrote very clearly when I ordered thru optus website(leave it in mail box), as there is no one at home during the lunch time of normal business day, they sent the sim card to our local post office.

It takes me almost 1 hour to get sim cards from post office.

    not good experience with delivery

    • Yeah not great from Optus, if they have a box for instructions they should read it or pass it on to delivery people.

I didn't write any instructions and saw it required signature when out for delivery today. I was home but not even a knock and they somehow call it 'Attempted delivery No one in attendance' and now going to post office

      • Optus have been sending their sims via StarTrack Courier with photo ID required for ages now. Full AirLock service sometimes which requires last four digits of ID to be recorded in the scanner.

    • Similar experience with Aus Post because my id was Victoria driver licence and lady from Aus Post demanded for QLD government issued ID due to delivery address is a QLD address. I told her was my name on the parcel but she was adment she just following rules. She demanded me providing other documents showing QLD address, ie utilities bill.

I was annoyed and asked to speak with her manager . She wasn't happy and kept me waiting on the side. So I asked another staff member and she stopped me saying she would get the manager but it wouldn't change anything. Then I saw manager came out so I just ignored her and spoke with the manager. No questions asked and she gave me my parcel. Oh, that lady wasn't happy and stopped serving another customer and went to talk to the manager. I just left.

Spent over 40 mins at the local Aus Post.

    • +1

Yeah delivery is a pain, but that's just standard process for anything sent from Optus. "Authority to Leave / Leave in Mailbox" in the notes didn't make any difference because of the ID requirement. The tracking scanner at the LPO prompted for four digits of my driver's license.

For comparison, much better experience with Boost Mobile who send in an AusPost envelope that actually gets delivered to the address.

      • Boost regularly getting sent via StarTrack courier now (for me at least). It's not the full on AirLock bag that Optus favours but still photo ID required.

    • Share your pain mate, just crazy to have such requirement when it can easily fit in a mailbox to be secured, not to mention when people explicitly leave delivery instruction to left in the mailbox.

It's SIM card, not an iPhone. Plus you still ID to activate the SIM anyway, who's gonna steal that?

  • Can one sign up for two new numbers and this qualify as new service n cashback?

  • +8

They changed the conditions. Requires activation within 28 days and must maintain an active recharge state for 90 days!

    • +5

      Typical Optus scum.

    • +1

Thanks hope it doesn't apply for previous purchases

    • +1

This applies from when? Those conditions were not there a few days ago.

    • +2

This is great news!! Now I won’t bother with Optus for cashbacks!!

      • +2

It's refreshing when a company just proves over and over again how they are not worth your time or money.

        • Why negative-sentiment?

    • -1

@Imnuts7, @Big-Deal, Anyone: seems like Optus is replacing Amaysim monthly money-back deals with 'new services only': apply for new-mobile# & hence NO-porting, with a relax-criteria, ie can use EXISTING Optus-account: existing email address with ID already-checkED, https://www.optus.com.au/prepaid/sim-plans?irclickid=Su-w1-z…. 2024 Amaysim money-back deals required at least a NEW-email-address with EACH-purchases & follow-up ID-check on activation. Is this correct?

CashRewards: MY previous system-tracking was 80% success at-best…is system-tracking still bad? Thanks.

      • Going by the comments, seems to have tracked more than 80%

  • Hey, op, do you know what does it mean by must maintain an active recharge state for 90 dsys after activation? 3 recharges to be eligible for cashback?

    • I'm no expert buy yeah as the words seem to mean, paid state for 90 days which could even mean 4 recharges as 1 is 28 days not 30

      • +1

Thanks. I thought so. And you are right, 4 recharges rather than 3 as it is 28 days.

  • +1

Anyone took screenshot of the previous T&Cs without activation & recharge condition? I ordered before the revision but need evidence in case of rejection.

    • +1
      • +1

I think they were asking for the offer on 31 may 25 which also had $39 - 28 day Prepaid SIM + eSIM with $12 Cashback. Ie before they added the additional terms. I don’t think activate 30 days and maintain active recharge were in the terms on that date.

Edit: doesn’t seem they made a site save after 22 may unfortunately.

If anyone has saved the terms and conditions please post photo from around 31 may 2025 for this offer

  • +2

Maybe it’s the same as boosts terms where you can’t port or disconnect your number until cashback is confirmed.

It that case this is only good for new numbers , not for porting.

Let’s hope so. I’m not recharging.

  • +2

I rang optus prepaid. They have no idea what “maintain an active recharge state” means. There is no mention of it in the terms and conditions of the prepaid service document either. Considering this is a new add on to the rules, it is too risky unless confirmed by Cashrewards directly.

    • +1

Optus CS won't have a clue about any conditions relating to the cashback offer, that's all Marketing and you're never going to get to talk to someone from Marketing let alone any kind of straight answer from the Marketing division anyway.

      • Well not sure how legit a rule such as active recharge state is without a clear definition.

  • New service also means cannot use a previously registered email address. Had to use new address

    • I've never had an issue with using the same email address previously.

    • Yeah best to be to be safe

  • Try to port number to Optus, but when it goes to the last step, after provide credit card information and submit order the website keeps showing “ Sorry, there's been an unexpected technical error. Please try again later.”

  • Has anyone check with Cashrewards regarding the new rules, maintain 90 days active recharge state?
