  • Close ish to my $120 Coles plan, hopefully mine doesn't say it's gonna expire and I need a new Coles plan.

    • Mine expires soon but I bought a 320GB for $200 Vodafone SIM a month or so ago.

  • this is great for low data users..

    • You're gonna be a low data user one way or the other on this plan.

      • have one low user and reason being looking at this because of tesla..

  • If I'm existing Aldi mobile user, can I buy this and using the same number or I have to port out and back in?

    • +3

Superpacks in the past come as box containing a SIM card and a recharge voucher. Existing Aldimobile users can just apply the recharge voucher to their existing number to get the pack. I assume these are still the same…

      • Thanks

  • +1

Isn’t this a bit pricy for 4G and only 5GB per month?

    • +8

Name a plan <$10pm with >5GB data per month.

    • +1

Not if you use less than 5Gb/month
Since the 3G shutdown, there are very few options in this price bracket.

  • +2

TBH this is a winner for regional if only telstra has coverage. Many has voiced (me included) after 3G switched off, telstra is quite bad in many area.

Of course if you live next to a cell tower, then is a different story. I was in that position until 9 months ago. Now in inner west, all three are crap!

    • winner for regional

This uses the Telstra Wholesale network, not the full Telstra network used by Boost and Telstra.

    • Now in inner west, all three are crap!

You are in Sydney, right? In my experience, Optus is better than Vodafone in term of data speed in West Sydney. Around City, all good for me except Telstra network signal is not that great in basement area which is weird as it is supposed to be better than Vodafone at least … Woolworths Metro Central Park for example, food court toilet in basement area near Woolworths Town Hall …

  • Do bothe aldi and onepass use tesltra network

    • Aldi = Telstra network
      Onepass = Optus network

    • -1

Highly recommend signing up to onepass network. Cheapest 5G carrier

      • +4

        ??? they are 4G only

  • I used to put one of this SIM plan on my cellular iPad. Then discovered the world of travel eSIMs…

    • I was thinking about an eSim too. Are there any eSims that give you unlimited calls and texts with around 5gb of data cheaper than the ALDI one?

      • Nah the cheap travel esims are mostly data only. With a number will make it way more expensive than this one

      • Nope. The Amaysim-Woolworths $119 was a bit better but can’t get one anymore. Boost was better too but they force you to switch to the more expensive new plans on price hikes a few years ago so that’s a dead end.

What I mean for eSIM is to use the cheap travel eSIMs. I only need less than 10GB per year for my iPad and no voice and text. Many travel eSIMs can achieve this around $30 with two years or more expiry and work regionally or globally, while Aussie plans are always more than a hundred bucks and works locally only.

If you call and text a lot then there’s not much cheap choices unfortunately. If just need to keep a number you can do Amaysim PAYG or even transfer the number to Crazytel.

        • Many travel eSIMs can achieve this around $30 with two years or more expiry

I'm trying this at the moment, and it's "interesting". My Roamless eSIM makes websites think I'm in Mauritius, an island off the east coast of Africa.

Just this afternoon I discovered my 7-11 app is now unable to lock in prices, possibly it thinks I'm using the "helicopter" method to cheat their system. I just get "error A01" when I try to lock in a price, and that error message is a masterclass in "how to make error messages that are undecipherable". I'm still investigating, maybe there's a different cause.

If you know of cheap long-expiry data eSIMs that make you look like you're in Australia, please let me know.

          • +1

@Russ: That’s a side effect for those SIMs. Mine (Eskimo) is off Singapore/Singtel so ping and restrictions are relatively acceptable.

It’s a common practice to tunnel calls and traffic back to carrier’s country on international roaming. That’s what makes roaming so expensive in the past. However this can be a good thing in certain situations, such as using as a “privacy VPN” alternative or allow you to use banned stuff in countries/regions like China or certain states in the US.

I do have VPN on my home network to tunnel my traffic when needed. Or there are ways to get local IPs when using CloudFlare tunnel.

            • @xmagic:

there are ways to get local IPs

Are any of them free and simple to implement, for someone who has never set up a VPN before?

My home internet is CGNAT, and I'd have to pay extra for static IP. As I really only need a local IP for the 7-11 app on my phone, which only saves me about $12 a month, paying for a static IP would roughly halve the savings the app gives me. Perhaps not worth trying?

              • +1

@Russ: I found fuel up at Costco can offset the cost of membership. Maybe worth trying if you’re near one of their warehouses.

As of technical stuff, unless you’re very comfortable messing with them, it may not worth it.

                • @xmagic: I thought that might be the case, thanks for confirming.

  • +3

Within how much time this needs to be activated?

    • I wonder about same thing 🤔

  • How does Telstra Wholesale compare to Vodafone and Optus?

Is the plan ongoing/can we just recharge for $119 yearly?

  • I got 120GB for $120 on Coles Mobile last year. 60GB would require some rationing.

    • +3

Big price rises late last year mean that last years prices are irrelevant.
The "cheap" 365 day option with Coles Mobile is now a 140Gb plan for $195 (Currently discounted to $149)!

    • omg I'm glad I got the Lebara 120gb for $119 last month…

  • +2

Has anyone seen these sims in any ALDI store? I only see the $5 packs.

    • I'm hoping you can activate on this plan. It kinda reads that way.

      • +1

No, you have to buy the 365 day sim pack from a physical store.

    • I had a look at my local (Ashgrove) and they haven't got any

      • Same. Local store have none. Suggested getting it online lol

  • 1.15 gigs a month that's too little

    • +3

      1.15Gb per week (5Gb/month)

  • most use 5 gigs per 24 hours

    • +4

People with good home internet don't necessarily use a lot of mobile data. I'm currently on Boost with 240GB annually, renewing in January. I checked after seeing this thread and I've used less than 7GB so far this year. This deal would be way better for me if I can get one of these sims.

    • About 5Gb/month more than I need for my kids' dumb phones

  • +1

    60GB :(

  • Does anyone know how much the renewal becomes? Cant see any yearly plans on the website. Or does this revert to monthly plans after the year is over

    • +1

Once your superpack plan expires you can renew the annual superpack plans at the standard prices. (This is the standard price for this plan, but there are others with more data to select if you prefer)

  • I'm with the ALDI family pack and noticed my 4g andtg reception hasn't been great in Sydney. Anyone else notice this? It seems to have started happening when they deactivated 3G and converting to 4g and 5g.

I used to have good 3g and 4g coverage at home downstairs but now also have really bad coverage since the changes.

    • mobile phone coverage is best effort and can have congestion issues as people find on new year’s eve or holiday or long weekend periods at some towers. optus put in 2 x 5g microcells in my area due to congestion (inner city melb) just due to growth in handsets in my area. with closure of 3g they refarm the spectrum for 5g.

      • When a tower is busy or reaching full capacity does Telstra give Telstra/Boost customers preference over Telstra Wholesale clients like Aldi and Woolworths?

  • Does it allow me to receive text messages while overseas like Boost?

    • It used to be able to. Can’t tell now as l left ALDI two years ago.

I’m on Amaysim and I can definitely receive text overseas. Without addons. Boost however must use addons to even get signal outside of au. (For the long expiry plans at least, or maybe things has changed now)

      • Boost was working for me (with receiving signal/messages) when in Japan last year. I was also using a travel esim and not a roaming pack.

  • +1

anyone know if this is a standard plan that will auto renew annually

also if it is what is the standard non discounted price?

    • If you're an existing superpack customer you can renew this plan or any of the other superpack plans.

This is the standard price. But you can only get onto one of these plans by buying a superpack sim card pack in store. (Inside the box it has a standard aldi sim plus a code for the superpack activation…. Or at least that's how the ones I had worked)

  • +5

So where does it actually say you will be able to find these sims in Aldi stores starting today?

  • +2

Not available in my local store and they knew nothing about this.

  • Why is this so popular when you can get a better bargain of 130GB of data for the same price ($120).

Plus its eSIM so less hassle than having to go into the store.

    https://www.koganmobile.com.au/small-365-day-prepaid-plan/

    • +4

      It's on Vodafone network

    • Because it’s Telstra people thinks it’s the best network

      • If you live in some regional and remote areas it IS the best.

    • This particular Kogan prepaid deal ("365 days Small": $120 for 130GB) doesn't seem to be available at the moment.

Instead, Kogan mobile website currently lists "365 days Small" as $150 for 140GB …

      https://www.koganmobile.com.au/plans/mobile/

    • Check your link, its not $150.

  • +2

Does Aldi mobile support Wifi Calling overseas?

    Edit: found it
    https://www.aldimobile.com.au/blogs/using-and-managing-your-…

You can use Wifi Calling overseas.

  • Amaysim also offer Woolworths only plans. I paid $122 for a year for unlimited talk, text, MMS, unlimited calls and texts to 28 countries and 140GB.
They go on special quite often if you keep an eye on their catalogue (their regular price is $165 annually)

    • True. The Woolworths exclusive plans for Amaysim often adds international calls/text while with less data and cheaper cost which is great for some users. The $119/60GB ($99 on sale first year) was a great value but replaced by the $165 year before.

    • When was the last time such exist? Amaysim uses Optus network though

  • +3

What is the date this special is starting?
    Nothing in catalogues.

I think this post is just a promo that there is a plan, but unless you're already on it or Aldi releases it as a new special, its useless.

  • Can't find anywhere

  • -1

Unlikely you can find stock at your local Aldi going to the shop then get disappointed not worth your time

  • What happens once the 60gb limit is used? Do they simply throttle the speed or start charging you additional fees?

    • Data Top Up: Once you have used all of the included data, you can buy a 3GB Data Top Up for $15, 20GB for $30 or 70GB for $60. You can purchase a Super Pack Data Top Up at any time as long as your total data balance does not exceed 200GB above the original data inclusion. Any Data Top Up you purchase will expire at the same time as your Super Pack.

Data is charged per 1KB which means the minimum amount of data you'll consume in each data session is 1KB.

      • If I choose not to purchase a data top up pack, will the internet stop working (but I can still make calls and text)? Or does it simply get throttled to a very low speed?

  • Why is this limited time only? Source?

  • +1

Not at my local. Is this even obtainable?

  • What is the activation period?

  • +1

Has anyone been able to obtain this deal anywhere? I don't see any in my local.

  • +1

    Can't find in local Aldi

  • Can you buy the $5 plan from aldi and then upgrade it to the $119/yr?

    • +1

Just called them and its not possible. Also its expired and not availalbe anymore.

  • +2

The 2 Aldi's near me (VIC) knew nothing about this. It's also not in next week's catalogue. Waste of time.

  • +1

277 votes and no stock to be found.

  • Went to my local and could not find this sim card. Only $229 for the full year option. Is this discontinued?

  • +3

not a bargain because cannot find anywhere.

  • +1

No stocks in VIC, according to one of the store managers, this promotion has been stopped long time ago. Good luck for those who managed to get one!

  • +1

    200+ likes? for what?

For $6.66, the Coles Optus deal gets you 4 times the data.

Esim porting is so easy these days you can jump between deals in minutes. Don't know why people still getting 5gig deal in 2025🤔🤔

    • That's not $6.66/month, it's $6.66/month more expensive than this deal.

Not everybody uses large amounts of mobile data. I get free wifi at home, at work, and at my local shopping centre, so this deal is good for people in my situation.

  • Is this long time price or special price for a week?

  • +3

Went to two Aldi's today and they have no idea about it. It wasn't on the rack with the rest of the sims. Only 365 option was a $220 for 250GBs

Manager said that the sim packs aren't part of the regular stock so they have no idea about stock levels. To call an Aldi would be for them to just check the shelf and see if it's available.

    I'll go with another option.

  • +3

Right, I've also gone to my store and the know nothing about this. I've just read other comments of other people also wasting their time, some at multiple stores with no deal to be found. THERE IS NO DEAL. It's neg time.

    • Yeah, the only vague flicker of hope I had is that the Terms and Conditions were last updated in December.
Back to the plan of ALDI PAYG + 30Gb data pack. Which is, as far as I can tell, the cheapest Telstra Wholesale plan actually possible that includes data.

  • +1

Went to 3 stores yesterday. These don't seem to exist

  • Staff knew nothing about this deal. Visited two stores, waste of time.

  • My Aldi said they have no idea and have never seen it. They said if they haven't received it before, it's probably coming. Doubt.

  • This deal is vapour ware. Even if you managed to find one it would be beyond the activation date.
