great time to use in conjunction with the amazon cashbacks. Not the ATL but a very good price.

For people who are still confused between the difference
The standard bambino does not have a 3 way solenoid valve while the plus does

This means when you stop extracting, water is dumped instead of letting it drain through the block.

Great for anyone who wants smaller footprint coffee machine with a seperate quality grinder.

EDIT: Great chance to price match at JB and use discounted GC if you have

Usually dispatched within 2-5 weeks.

Have had this pre-covid and still going strong. Has definitely paid off with the amount of coffee me and my family take.

  • +2

The plus also has the auto milk frother which works really well

  • +3

Same, mines made hundreds of coffees. My only bummer of the day is when it wants to do a cleaning cycle right after pouring the shot!

    • have two machines running side by side :)

    • +2

I do a clean and a descale from time to time when it's convenient for me, because otherwise it always chooses the worst possible time like either when I'm trying to make a coffee in the 3 minutes I have before a meeting, or worse, after I've made the espresso but before I've made the milk.

EDIT - just to mention, the cleaning and descaling are prompted by the machine every 200 or so cups of coffee made, so you can estimate when it'll be due and do it slightly more often. Recommend doing it more often if you have hard water in supply etc.

Any recommendations for a decent and affordable grinder?

    • used market is always good, checkout coffee snobs or fb market

    • +5

      Df54

    • +2

If you want good AND affordable, get a hand grinder like the Kingrinder K6 or similar.

Otherwise, be prepared to fork out about the same price as for this machine, for a good electrical grinder like the DF54 or similar.

Awesome Machine. Have had mine for 5+ years and still making awesome coffee!

  • +4

Have had mine since 2019 (bought from Amazon for $364.99 plus Breville cashback) and seriously considering buying this as a backup. Amazing machine for the footprint.

Don't let the dual boiler mob tell you that the thermoblock is inferior. It's perfect for 1-2 cups at a time. And, while I don't use it much, the auto milk function is surprisingly good at texturing milk.

    • I got my bambino plus in 2020 replaced with a Rancillio Silvia that will eventually get a gaggimate. Still recommend the bambino plus, nothing beats the bang for buck of the PID and 3 second heat up. Auto froth was also a win when my daughter was little. I have even thought of pulling it back out for winter for the daughter to use the auto froth to make hot chocolates.

  • Love my $180 catch deal

  • Newbie to coffee machines.
Is this easier to clean vs something like this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/907504

    • +1

that's fully auto bean to cup vs the breville which's manual

auto's probly worse imo you have to empty the grounds which is often worse than y might think and clean the milk canister and line

Also a lot can go wrong with fully auto, I'd be doing a fair bit of research to find out if they're easy to clean and what the coffee's like

      • +1

Yes, comparing manual with auto. Thx for your input

        • For the record the Bambino's quite incredibly good, though they were a lot cheaper when they came out so diff value proposition now.

Bean to cup machines can be really good but there are also some that are ordinary.

With this Breville you need to have a good grinder and a bit of knowledge about coffee making or/and be willing to learn.

Also there's a slightly cheaper version of the Bambino that does not have the auto froth feature which might be better value if you're not into milk drinks.

          • +2

@0jay: Fwiw I think the non-Plus version is actually better for milk frothing, as most people will get better results than auto frother after a few attempts, and the steaming wand has full articulation vs up/down movement on the Plus.

            • +2

@wintermadness: I also find the wand on my Bambino pretty much never gets clogged, but it would happen every few weeks with the Plus. Aside from that, It's nice having a button for hot water rather than having to remember what combination of buttons to press.

Should also mention, if the temperature sensor for the milk fails like mine did, the machine will not boot, which means no coffee.

Looks like they're price matching Myer. https://www.myer.com.au/p/breville-bambino-plus-espresso-mac…

Myer says 3 to 7 busniess days delivery, Amazon 2 to 5 weeks

    • That is pathetic, I just went to their store last week and ask them to price match, they told me they can't because their cost is $508.

No i have to see if I can get discount Myer gift cargo at Coles……

    • That deal is OOS now….

    • Thank you for posting this comment.

It was out of stock at Amazon by time saw this deal but managed to order one from myer.

  • +2

very good machine if you drink milk-based coffee mostly. You just need to buy

good grinder (DF54 is a good choice, very low retention, 0 to -0.1g output weight vs input)
    WDT (cheap one is fine)
dosing funnel (you will need it to do WDT)
self levelling tamper (flat base with a simple spring mechanism)
    scale that can measure 0.1g

anything else is fancy gadget that you don't really need.

only use the double shot single wall basket pls. The other 3 are rubbish

      • +1

this is the ideal shape for WDT. Use the WDT tool to evenly distribute the coffee and remove the mound in the middle before tamping
better result than using the distributor alone

    • where do you shop for those things?

      • +1

amazon but everything on amazon is from aliexpress.

I recommend buying the majority of it from aliexpress.

Timemore basic is around 50$ for the scale (expensive but worth it imo)
wdt tool cheap ones are around 10$
        dosing funnel 5$
tamper imo you don't need to buy

    • Curious why you said milk based coffee mostly?whats the reason …I like long black mostly and thinking of getting this one.

      • +1

the quality of a shot of espresso is relatively less crucial as the milk masks a lot of things. You can dial in your coffee easily by adjusting dose, yield and grind size, making decent milk based coffee drinks using these basic espresso machines.

If you drink espresso only, you look for other things such as body, mouth feel etc. You can taste the complexity of a shot which requires better brewing skill and tools

  • Someone posted earlier that this place is selling all the colours for 399 plus delivery if you live outside of Melbourne https://terrabarista.com.au/product/the-bambino-plus/

    • This site looks dodgy, it has a UK address in the footer?

Looks like the Amazon deal is finished :-(

  • Doesn't exist at $399 anymore

  • Looks like it's over back to $499.

  • For anyone interested, there are comments online saying the water temperature isn't stable and I was actually wondering if it was worth spending double ($179 dedica vs $399 bambino) compared to the Dedica Arte Delonghi Dedica Arte vs Breville Bambino Plus

If you have time, this is a fairly good read explaining why the temperature seems unstable. Bambino temperature stability

TLDR The unit starts up very quick, but as recommended in the manual, you need to pull a blank shot using the pressurized basket before making your actual shot.

    • +2

Unless your loaded with time in the morning and care that much, I think no one is going to pull a blank shot using the pressurized basket and bother switching it out.

The other more simpler option is when you wake up, turn it on, go do your other stuff, when you come back in say 20-30 min it should be hot enough the thermal leeching isn't as impactful. Flush the machine with for a couple of seconds to get that steam out and hot water out into your cup of choice, prepare your puck, throw the water out from your cup and extract.

In this case your warming your cup so you don't have to empty your drip tray more often.

I'm getting mine delivered tomorrow and pretty excited to try a beginner coffee machine.

      • very true about no time swapping out basket.

I normally pull a blank shot to heat my cups, so I'd be interested to how it compares to my dual boiler (ironic as I've always wanted to try the bambino too).

    • +2

Dedica is seriously rubbish no matter which model you go for, that 51mm portafilter design just doesnt pull coffee correctly unless you make junk coffee like me.

You want something cheap then get the duo temp pro I posted https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/908473

Just got mine delivered today, all the short coming compare to Bambino plus was as I expected but not unmanageable.

Big big plus for the portafilter, like YT reviews mention its cafe quality, just 54mm. The shot pulled out was way better than Bambino Plus. Don't know why they don't use this portafile with bambino plus, can't be costing that much….

      • I'm probably making crappy coffees, but I used to have a dedica EC685 and somewhat miss how decent and compact it was. I eventually swapped the wand to a rancilio silvia replica but it was the worse mistake as it kept squealing when frothing milk; so I swapped it back and sold it.

I've moved on to barista express and now dual boiler, but ever still curious whether the new EC885 (arte version) is any different or just my standard has changed.

The duo temp portafilter does look like a decent metal one.

        • You would have some sort of requirement if you spend the money on dual boiler. So no need to look at these cheap machine, its totally differnt segment of the market.

For me I make junk coffee most of the time and I cant stand you have to wait for a boiler to warm up or set a timer, hence why I had Bambino plus. Duo Temp pro seem to sit in the mid of the two and I save almost $200 (unless you count that impossible Myer dral). So I am not complaining.

          • @syswong: I still think the dedica is a great entry machine and for the people who are more budget constraint its a fantastic piece of kit.

Just has a lot of workflow added to it unfortunately and waiting for steam to come to power..

            • @darkkito: if someone is on budget then they should wait for a deal on this:

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/822584

Sunbeam machine while is cheap build and portafilter material is crap, it often use 58mm group head so you can invest on accessories knowing that you can keep them when changing machine. Don't overlook this, one reason stick with Breville is getting new accessories will easily cost extra $100.

One of my friends who is really stingy but want standard group head got one from the deal and he said its not as bad as he thought….

      • Thanks for sharing these stats.

What difference you see between this ( duo tempo pro) and Bambino plus? Bambino uses same 54 filter. What short comings you see in duo?

        • Bambino Plus takes three second to heat up. Run one shot through the portafilter and you are good to go. Switch between milk and coffee as much as you want and don't need to wait. Almost zero back flushing. Automatic milk, just leave your jar and let it do its thing.

You get none of that with Duo Temp Pro. Startup is about 20+ second. Then you have to plan your brewing cos you have to wait when switch from brewing to steam, then back flush and wait again when you switch back. Nothing wrong as all thermal block does that, just make you realise how good Breville's thermal jet is.

I use it for a day now and the short coming is not a big deal for me. And I say it again that portafilter is so good. If you are like me who like to remover the plastic diverter, you will have to break it with Bambino Plus and your portafilter will no longer able to split two shots (not that you should). The one with Duo Temp Pro, no problem!

        • The duo temp is outdated, it takes up more space, if roughly all are the same price. I would always encourage to choose bambino over duo temp and if you can bambino plus.

IF I didn't have any coffee machine, I would buy the duo temp if it was $200 roughly, bambino plus at the $400 mark.

While I kinda disagree about heating time in the below comment in the sense yes, it does heat up in three seconds but to actually achieve thermal stability, I would recommend starting your day turning it on as soon as you wake up, coming back in 20-30 min and it will be nice and hot to touch. Thats the same for both machines.

Now in terms of steam power, the duo is weaker from what I understand and as well slower. That doesn't mean you can't make good coffee its just a lesser machine if its similar in terms of pricing.

The duo doesn't have any inherent short comings but why buy a worse machine at similar price when you can have better performance generally speaking.

          • @darkkito:

The duo temp is outdated, it takes up more space, if roughly all are the same price. I would always encourage to choose bambino

That hasn't happened for a long time.

I would recommend starting your day turning it on as soon as you wake up, coming back in 20-30 min and it will be nice and hot to touch.

The point of thermal jet is to save energy and a quicker work flow. If one was going to do what you suggest, may as well get a Gigga E24 or Dual Boiler.

Do note the steam wand does make some difference especially between Bambino Plus and Duo Temp Pro, but is it worth $200…. no I don't think so.

Also self observe my routine with Duo Temp Pro, as long as I stick to doing brew then steam (or the other way) I aren't spending that much more time with Duo Temp Pro, but that is just me.
