Long time lurker, first time poster here. Luckily monitored the price on camelcamelcamel literally 2 days ago as I was looking for a good bag for uni. The seller is Amazon AU so should be trustworthy. The slightly different North Face Borealis is $149.99 on Amazon as well. Main difference is that the Recon has a mesh pocket at the front instead of the bungee cord system on the Borealis that lets you store larger items. The prices here are only for the Black CW, others don't look like they're for the same price.

Cheapest it's been for a while now, previous prices include:
17/02/2020 - Anaconda - $139.99
20/11/2023 - Amazon - $144
16/04/2025 - Amazon - $167.99

For anyone looking for a new bag for studying, I tried the Fjallraven Kanken and hated it personally though some people might actually like it. It's not good for bringing a big laptop especially because the shoulder straps are noodles. Could be user error but I've been suggested this bag by a couple friends and like what I'm hearing from reviews (and Reddit lol). Happy Bargaining!

    It is a good price but how many people buy at full price of $240?

    When I was at uni, a $10 bag from Kmart did the trick. lol

      It is ridiculous how much backpacks are

    Very good backpack. I use it every day. It can keep things dry if it's lightly raining. It can also fit so much. Highly recommended. I have had mine for two and a half years and holding up great.

  • Not quite as good as the Osprey equivelent. mainly due to the middle pocket being shallow on these and deep on the Osprey. Causes the bag to flop around with a top heavy pocket.

  • We have a Recon for quite a few years now. Used to take it to the office and it has been used on multiple trips as a travel carry-on too. Still looks great.Very comfy even when heavy. Love the organisation of the different pockets.
    (Another good option for uni is the Dakine campus backpack . Compact yet durable and comfy
    )

  • Love mine!

  • Damn this is a solid price. Had one for six years and it lasted awhile

      Yeah just got mine this morning just before I left, love it so far.

      • Mines barely got any wear and tear on it before I sold it recently so you’re set for several years (:
