The North Face are well renowned for making excellent durable outdoor gear, what makes you think the Osprey bags would be better?

I guess I shall stand corrected, but before your comment I wouldn't consider The North Face products "excellent and durable" gear and I'd default to other brands. That's solely based on looking at some of their backpacks from this price range a couple of times.
Both are solid but I'd give the edge to Osprey.
I own bags from both and Osprey just has a couple better features. This one for example lacks the padded waist band which is fine for most for uses.

I can't comment on this particular bag, as I don't have one. But at this general price, wouldn't you be chasing an Osprey bag? I've had mine for years and it can take a beating and still look like new.
