    • September.

      • Mine was supposed to be 2 years ago. Then it was June, now it's September. So basically, never.

    With more at the moment

  • 500/50 looks like new before Sep.

Shame this doesn’t seem to apply for many people who have just had the FTTP upgrade available, as NBN have changed their service class to “Service Class 1 - Fibre-to-Premises is available to order - both PCD and NTD are required” so now are unable to have access to these plans when coming from a FTTN connection.

Bit dodgy by NBN but nothing can be done about it.

    • +1

The majority of FTTP upgrades are eligible for 500/50 $79.95/month.

Your 100/20 FTTP gets boosted to 500/50 from September.

      • The majority of FTTP upgrades are eligible for 500/50 $79.95/month

The ‘Fast’ plan doesn’t even show as an option when I’ve tried 3 different areas which have become available for the FTTP upgrade (and NBN changing the service class to 1).

So doesn’t really seem like it’s an isolated thing, something that NBN will most likely be doing for any area which has the upgrade going forward.

        • nbn marking a FTTP upgrade location as SC1 is isolated. They are looking at mass FTTN/FTTC to FTTP migration going forward.

It won't matter come September as you can get 500/50 for the same price. Are you moving to FTTP now or waiting?

          • @Twix:

nbn marking a FTTP upgrade location as SC1 is isolated. They are looking at mass FTTN/FTTC to FTTP migration going forward.

Well as I said, 3 addresses I know have had their FTTP upgrade in the last couple of months and each have all been changed over to SC1, so any change they do triggers the FTTP upgrade. Doing it that way is actually the smartest way for NBN to be able to change everyone over to FTTP.

Are you moving to FTTP now or waiting?

Sadly my suburb isn’t even on the rollout map. Won’t be happening any time soon at this rate these were all friends/family.

            • @Nousernamehere: Yeah the sooner the copper swaps to FTTP the better. Do you have FTTN, FTTB or HFC?

              • @Twix: I can understand the reason NBN are doing it that way, just seems strange they’re even bothering with the cheaper upgrade plans rather than just making all the rollout areas SC1. Only thing I can think of is all 3 places are regional so probably quicker to get people to all upgrade sooner rather than having to get contractors back in for each adhoc upgrade.

FTTN for me, but nothing on the rollout map even though half the town has already had the upgrade. Just another weird way of NBN doing it all.

                • @Nousernamehere: Yeah nbn will make everywhere on FTTN/FTTC to FTTP SC1 eventually.

The remaining FTTN is becoming eligible for FTTP. The only thing is it can be any year between 2026 to 2030.

      • I am having trouble understanding this - I'd like to get the free upgrade from FTC to FTP with the cheapest/slowest possible speed. It seems that this means a 100Mbps/17Mbps plan. Is it going to become increasingly unavailable at these lower end speeds? Are you saying it will actually become available for free at any speed (meaning I could hope for a sub $50 plan)?

        • Go on the 100/20 speed to get FTTP. Swap to 25/10 or 50/20 after FTTP is installed if you want to.

25/10 and 50/20 is still going to be available. 500/50 will be the next step up for FTTP.

I have to say that out of all the isps ive tried over the years, these guys have been spot on with their service and available options. I found Abb great but got too expensive. Superloop kept having drop outs in my area for some weird reason. Optus, tpg, and even belong were okish but not consitent and always had random issues. Im sure they are all good for some and have their appeal but for a house hold mixed with gamers, work from home and general interent browsing, youtube etc, leaptel has been a great balance. They have been consitent and service has been really good, if its ever needed, which has been very very little over the year and a half roubghly that ive been with them. Im not sure how much it matters where youre located vs which isp youre joining makes a difference anymore but for me, this ISP is tops.
Well done guys and hope you keep up the great service and keeping compition up their.

    • I'm on 1000/50 and considering making the switch from ABB to Leaptel for the same reason. My only concern is quality of their service - don't want to deal with recurring issues and ABB has been rock solid on that front. Good to know that has been your experience.

      • Give Leaptel a go. There is Buddy Telco $99/m ongoing if you want the Aussie BB network.

        • Leaptel is who I got fibre to the property with and did find their services really good with very few issues , unfortunately the promotion coming to an end I moved on to tangerine which has been ordinary compared to my last service. I'm currently switching over to southern phone as their promo for 100/20 is around $65.00 a month for twelve , hopefully I'll be staying for that period 🤞

          • @Murkymerv: AGL the parent company has moved to Superloop backhaul for nbn. I don't know if Southern Phone is using Superloop.

Can you please run a traceroute and check if it says Superloop. Remove your IP if you post the traceroute.

            • @Twix: What now ? I don't understand what you're asking me . You can direct message me if you want , all I know is I will be using an Eero 6 plus when it's connected on the 13th .

              • @Murkymerv: Never mind. I will ask someone in the Southern Phone deal.

Still waiting for FTTP to become available to me… guessing "end of 2025" goalpost will continue to move…

    • nbn more fibre may give you an estimate.

      • +1

That just says fibre is not available at your address. And we were supposed to get it in early 2025. They put pamphlets in our mailbox and everything.

        • FTTP will come eventually. FTTN and FTTC is going away. Is it just your address? Can other homes in your location get FTTP?

      • It's always said the latest date it can since I moved here ~4 years ago.

Right now it says Dec 2025, pretty sure it'll be bumped further as we get closer to the date.

    • We were supposed to get it in early 2025. Now we're not even getting it, apparently.

    • From June here buy no work nearby recently. A few months ago I saw them running cables around but vanished. Knowing my luck from June still mean December.

  • Has anyone had experience in transitioning from their old isp to these guys? Is it generally pretty easy?

    • +1

It's fairly straight forward. Who is your provider?

      • I'm with Belong (telstra) so keen to move on. Good to hear it's easy.

        • Signup to Leaptel online.

Belong should email you saying it's cancelled. If not give Belong a call after FTTP is installed.

    • +3

Yeah. Super easy and no issues.
They're a good ISP and always Australian customer service if I have needed it.

    • you just give your current provider a date you would like to cancel ( you will either cancel or they will match the deal) and then you give the new service the date you would like to join. assuming you already have a modem that can handle the speeds and dont need a delivery for a new one, it will be 10-30 minutes online handover , almost like a sim card but all online. you will likely get a text when the new service is in place, then do a speed test to confirm it showing the new provider

I switched from Telstra to leaptel. Filled out the online sign up information and picked the port to use which was the current one being used by Telstra and at midnight they flicked a switch and I had internet through leaptel going through Telstra modem it was seamless for me.

    • I switched from Telstra to Leaptel HFC and the switch took less than 10 minutes. Switch was done during business hours during a week day.

Cannot speak highly of them, so much so I have given them a 5 star google review and I don't hand them out lightly.

Service is local with people who know their stuff, reminds me of the good old days of Internode.

Switched to leap on their $99 plan early this year, pretty good speeds, no complaints, got good notifications about NBN outages.

Support was responsive and thorough on the online chat, didn't feel like I was being fobbed off. The issue was on my end. (my BYO router had a QOS 100mbps limit on the WAN port that I didn't know about, had to google around a bit and clear the limit and got full 1000mbps down afterwards)

1000/50 speed tier gets an upload boost to 100 from September.

  • When will HFC get some of this FTTP love?

    • +1

There is no free upgrade path for HFC to FTTP.

nbn are making HFC more stable and HFC will be able to get 2000/100, 1000/100, 750/50 and 500/50 from September.

  • im in a strata complex and we have been upgraded by NBN via their contractors called Decon. So havent been upgraded via an ISP. Im guessing im not eligible for this offer?

    • You have to wait until September for 500/50 FTTP. What was the total cost per apartment?

      • +1

We initially got quoted $550 per apartment. We waited til the AGM to discuss it. The day before our AGM we got an email from NBN saying "we are pleased to inform you that it has been revised to the initial quote of $275"

        • $275 per apartment is a good price for a strata complex. What FTTP speed did you get?

          • @Twix: Our NTD was installed on the 28th of April but my activation date is only on the 7th of July lol. Ill wait and see if there are any specials on when we get connected

      • Do you know of anything smaller and cheaper? I am eligible for upgrade from FTTN but havnt got round to it yet.
(Am currently maxed out at 50mbps which is fine for our needs so dont really see the need for 500)

        • The majority have to get 100/20 or faster to swap from FTTN to FTTP. Swap to 50/20 after FTTP is installed if you want to. How much do you want to spend a month?

          • @Twix: Been churning for years like a lot of ozbargainers for around $60, and honestly 50mbps has been fine for us, as we have a very stable connection. But figured sooner or later we would upgrade to FTTP as it is available at our address. $80 is reasonable, and should futereproof us, with two (data hungry) young kids.

            • +2

@nepalesesquirrel: 100/20 $69.95/month for 12 months @ Leaptel is still available. Most other providers are 6 months. 100/20 gets boosted to 500/50 from September. Your FTTP choices are…

              1. Get 500/50 now and stay on it for however long you want and swap provider later.
              2. 100/20 now and 500/50 from September.
              3. 100/20 now and 50/20 later.
  • Sorry, the nbn® fibre upgrade isn't available at your address.

    Sad story

  • Another very happy Leaptel FTTP customer here, been with them nearly 2 years now and can highly recommend.

  • What uses is the 500 speed for btw?

    • +1

4k streams. Torrenting. Other sexy things.

      • Thanks

  • also can recommend leaptel, though on opticomm they increased price by 3$ and there will be no speed increase, which NBN connected clients get

  • Hmmm. We have FTTN but I get this response when trying the address on Leaptel's home page:

"Great news! You're already connected by ultra-fast nbn® fibre!
Unfortunately, you're not eligible for the fibre upgrade promotional offer, but you can still choose one of our great nbn plans at a special new customer promotional price. T&Cs apply."

    However NBN check gives me:

"The nbn technology at your location has been upgraded from nbn Fibre to the Node (FTTN) to nbn Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). Speak to your provider about upgrading your existing nbn plan to a plan over nbn Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), and ask them about the plan options available to you."

Also there's only a phone cable running into the house and connecting to the modem ….. I'd better call during business hours tommorow and hope for the best.

    • +1

There is a mismatch because nbn has marked your location as FTTP and no more FTTN. You can organize FTTP through Leaptel and get any of the FTTP speed tiers shown on their site. You can't get 500/50 FTTP until September.

      • I'll give them a call this morning. Currently the LeapTel site check is saying we have FTTP already but only offering FTTN plans like 100/20 for $79.95/month.

        • The FTTP speeds should come up. What did they say?

  • Guys anyone answer me, or is it just me.

Whenever I upgrade the package to 500 or 1000mbps. The latency gets higher and higher, and browsing becomes slower as well as the buffering.

But when I downgrade to like 100mbps the latency and ping gets reduced and browsing and buffering improves alot. Why is that?

Hence proved, shorter the tighter, tighter the better

    • Look up bufferbloat. What router do you have?

      • Ax73 Tp link. Previously was telstra.

        • Is TP-Link's QoS off or on?

      • I have tested it in many places. The results are shocking. Strange no one notices it

  • Hi All - thinking of switching from ABB.

Considering Leaptel - 79.95/m for 12 months and then 92.95/m after.

Also considering Mate which are 60/m for first 6 months and then 90/m after that.

Mate will be cheaper over first 12 months and also in future.

Any latency issues with Leaptel or MATE in Vic?

Anyone have any issues with either?
