Don't forget TCB for a further 3% off bringing it down to $528.86
I'm planning to take it overseas within 60 days so with TRS should bring it down to $490.70 or maybe $458.96 depending on the 10% GST invoice amount.

Referee: $10 off 1st purchase.
Referrer: $10/$20/$30 off $100/$150/$250 Spend.
@mskeggs: Thanks. Perhaps I was too ambitious. Perhaps will let the kid use for next 2-3 yrs before upgrading and will keep going if its still going without interfering with the studies.
@psychoacid: 2-3 years probably acceptable for very basic use - the very limited ram being the biggest hurdle here.
It is still a Mac though - if apple stop supporting it, then release an update with some grand ambitions, you'll quickly discover the dark side of Apple - 0 legacy support.
Couple years at this price is good though
I'd agree with this, I'm on an M1 too with same specs and its fine for anything I throw at it, battery works a full work day too(83%).
If it’s mostly plugged in use a charge limiter. I use the one on github by godly_devotion
Oh well, bought a M2 6 months ago so the elder one could use and her M1 could be handed over to younger one. This would have saved me $500.
The 5 year old M1 is still pristine and faultless.
Yeah I’m actually super annoyed that my M1 MacBook Air is still going strong. I have zero legitimate reasons to upgrade and I wish that I did. Because… I want new things. But alas it’s still holding on strong.
The real bargains are the ones you didn't get because you didn't need them.
Which version of iOS and how long will it get security updates
Macs run MacOS
Derrr …which one Sequoia, Senoma, etc
Any M series currently supports all latest updates.
You'll have to ask Apple directly how long they plan to support M1. (They won't tell you, though :P)
Spits into a rag and then buffs the hood of the laptop. Isn't she a beauty.
Assuming the unit is in pretty good condition, the M1 Air is still a great machine. I daily drive one and have yet to feel like it's struggled to keep up (though I did opt for 16GB of RAM, which obviously doesn't hurt). The only thing I will say is that the 256GB of storage fills up fast, and I say that as someone who typically does not store a lot of data.
I’m on holiday in Bali, and I’m not sure why I just bought a MacBook Pro…
Must’ve been a wild night, mate. You partied so hard and thought a MacBook was a Bintang.
8x256 MacBintang for $500? Yeah buy buy
When I go to site it says $699. Is the price mentioned when you insure the code coupon (20%)? That brings it down to $559.20. Not sure how you got $545.22.
At around $560 seems good buying. M1 and although only 8Gb ram might be OK for WP, s/sheet and web browsing.
You need eBay plus with coupon JUNEOFY22
thanks for that!
Just placed the order to get one as my backup laptop. Thanks op.
What’s the GST on the receipt?
$63.91
do you need to request the invoice?
@Arch9896: Yes, sorry to chime in late. It was not supplied automatically. Seller emailed a copy on request.
Is there a colour option or is it random/silver?
not back in the mac M1 days. later they offered grey I think from the M2 with a redesign and the M3 offered a 'black' but it marked real easy but they seem to have nailed the coating on the M4 series at last.
Tempting to get even though I already own the MBA M1 with 16GB/512GB since 2022 for $1500.
Going on 3.5 years with this device and it's still a beast. 93% battery health, 197 cycles, bought at 95% battery capacity, refurbished.
Has outlasted all the other Windows laptops that my friends and family purchased around the same time. Sips power when asleep. I've essentially kept it plugged in to a 27" monitor and use it as my main computer now. When I do take it out for travel/work etc, it lasts me about 14-16 hours on a single charge continuous use at 50-60% brightness (200 nits). It lasted a full 10 hour work day of browsing, emails, and office work, and had 70% left afterwards.
It uses such little battery, I can plug it into a 10,000 mAH power bank and charge it at 20W and it'll last more than twice as long.
Speakers sound impressive for its size, it's extremely light, trackpad is unrivalled. It's fanless so completely quiet.
I wish the display was brighter, but that's my only fault of the device (400 nits).
How rough are these people using windows machines? Or are they all buying 300 Acer computers? Just curious because I've used laptops since 2000, an generally pretty rough with them, and never had a device experience issues within 5 years, other than one laptop with a loose hinge.
Haven't tried one of these m chip devices, though had a terrible time with my previous MacBook air (2013, so a while ago)
Dell XPS 13, Dell latitudes, a lot of midrange HPs, a couple new Lenovo ThinkPad E14s, a Lenovo X1 Carbon, and a Microsoft Surface Pro 9.
My last Windows laptop was a Sony Vaio that suffered from a broken hinge shortly after the warranty expired. I have a gaming desktop PC, but I mainly use the MacBook now for productivity.
If you're open to it, I'd recommend trying out the MacBook again.
Good deal and worth it if battery health are well.
FYI ~ were on the countdown to the M5 now (its in TSMC FAB now) and is now some 4 months away from announcement if its on the same schedule. I bet it will drop the 256gb at long last and 512gb will be the base storage, along with the now standard 16gb. For $500 Id be looking for a 8/256 M2 with the redesigned case personally on FB Marketplace or wait for a good deal on the M4 Air, price drops, edu pricing or refurbished from apple. The M4 is the first ARM v9 (9.3A) chip and that's like when apple went from the 32bit CORE to the 64bit DUO X86, so for OS longevity I find it hard to recommend the M1 (M2 or even M3) as they are all a decade old ASM 8 architecture.
As a side note, for less money than the EDU MB Air M4 16/256gb I got a Lenovo with OLED screen, 32gb of RAM and 1Tb nVme for $1200-1300 shipped to my door. I sold my MBP M2 16/512 for it and let me tell you its going to be a hard sell to get me back on team APPLE at the blowout pricing and sub par offerings, especially in the LAPTOP department! Now they have the Qlcom Snapdragon, id jump ship (I have an 8/16 core AMD) but now the snapdragon rocks IMO
Did you have a link to:
Lenovo with OLED screen, 32gb of RAM and 1Tb nvme for $1200-1300
Would love to know the link too
How's the battery life on your new lapotp plus heat plus noise since mac is fanless (for their base models?)
Even snapdragon relevance is kind of in doubt for me.
The battery optimised lunar lake laptops have insane battery life, comparable to the MBP and SD laptops. At that point, why bother dealing with the incompatibility issues, when you can get that battery life on x86
I find it hard to recommend the M1 (M2 or even M3) as they are all a decade old ASM 8 architecture.
Did you mean the assembler? I'm no expert, so I asked AI.
"What is ASM8 architecture as it relates to silicon chip design?"
The term ASM8 architecture refers to the ASM8 assembler, a software tool used for programming the Motorola S08 microcontroller family in assembly language.
I followed that up.
"Does Apple Silicon, like the M1, M2 and M3 chips, tied to or use the S08 architecture?"
No, Apple Silicon chips like the M1, M2, and M3 do not use the S08 architecture.
Summary
The S08 architecture is a low-power, embedded microcontroller platform, while Apple Silicon is a high-performance 64-bit ARM-based architecture for consumer computing. They are completely unrelated in purpose, scale, and technology.
That makes so much sense. I just assumed ASM8 was a thing rather than a typo 🤦♂️ Cheers.
Would it be a pain for a windows user sitting with 64GB ram pc to try this 8GB MacBook?
Probably not. Silicone Macs are generally very good RAM users. Depends on how you're using it though.
Hey all just got the Macbook delivered.
First impression; aesthetically is pretty bad. Mine came with few dings/dents on top and a massive dent at bottom air vent which look pretty ugly. Looked like it has a big knock/drop on it. Actually quite disappointed because I bought from them before (Windows laptop - refurb good cond) and it was pretty good. Battery completely drained. Powered on set up first few mins seemed ok. Bad thing when ordered you can't see the real thing but only to trust the desc as stated on ebay:
Case/Body: Signs of regular use only visible from a 12-inch distance but do not compromise overall appearance.
"….do not compromise overall appearance". To me dings here and there ok but the big dent on the vent…yeah….it's alright but not happy. I'm just hoping functionality all go well in the next few days/weeks of using it.
I received mine today as well, aethestically is bad, but the worse thing is there is a few dings on the screen! Its like somebody has taken a screw/nail and knocked it into the screen. Its not very deep but i noticed it when i first opened it. Not that bothered with dents or scratches on the case but definitely not happy about the screen.
Bought refurbished stuff from similar stores many times before on ebay and havent had such a bad turn out - though i might have just been lucky previously.
Sorry to hear that. Lucky my screen was ok. I'd ask for refund or another unit because the screen is very important.
Yeah, i'll message them and try my luck
Decided to get one and it delivered this afternoon.
mine is quite decent, tiny dent here and there and one decent size scratch on the lid. I was expecting worse.
Keyboard looks decent. I did polish with disinfectant wipes.

edit: AppleCare plus expires 19 Jan 2026.
How’s the battery health on it if you don’t mind?
90%
Mine is decent … charger looked like it had been dragged along the ground though, but it works..
Actual macbook is in pretty good condition all things considered.. battery 87%.. apple care 19 jan 2026
@lickjimmy1: Woah yeah guys me too!
174 cycle count, 90% battery health .3. Honestly surprising, could've been better but definitely could've been worse.
Supposedly the eBay certified refurb, "good" is the lowest condition but still 80% minimum battery health.
I can notice a few scratches on near the two type c ports, just visual stuff.
Can see that there is a bunch of small scratches on the screen when you shine a phone flashlight on it but when you actually turn on the mac it is indeed not noticeable so hope it's a non issue.
My keyboard is suspiciously sticky maybe they gave it a wipe and it's some kind of alcohol residue or something else??
Quite disappointing that yeah I'll have to give it a good wipe down as there are the noticeable keyboard smudge n grime on the screen, bit of dust or reside on the actual body of the mac itself at the bottom and top.
But other than that, I'm really surprised that there is AppleCare+, checked via serial number first on the website and it shows that it had it, but no confirmation on when it expires, well i was forced to sign in with my apple id so i did and it shows on the app that yeah last till 19 Jan 2026.
On the page with the serial number check it does say it was purchased Jan 2023. So that's likely when it was originally purchased which would make sense with the 3 years of applecare+ additional warranty.
Overall happy with it, but just been a few hours. Will get use to it in the next couple days.
Again just to summarise, sticky keyboard, a bit of residue and gunk that can be cleaned off.
Battery Health 90%, Cycle Count 174. AppleCare+ Coverage till Jan 2026. Came with a 30W Apple Charger and Type C to C Cable. The shipping was a bit concerning though, just the macbook in bubble wrap (not even fully sealed on the sides) plus the charger and cable in a giant ass box [the auspost/express] where it moves around during shipping.
@AeymothSky: Agree regarding the packaging/shipping. All it takes is one bad egg. Def an area for improvement.
@ver1tas: I'm pretty sure it is,
I asked them if I could have gold or if there are any other color options, the ebay store respond saying that it's all grey
Yeah mine arrived today! Very happy, not a mark on it. Battery at 97% health and Apple care+ until 19th Jan 2026!
like new
Wow very lucky. Mine battery 93% with 120 cycle count. Apple care 19th Jan 2026. Apart from the dings here and there and big dent at the vent, system seemed to run fine but I didn't get much chance to play with it.
seems like you got really unlikely with those dents 0_0…
maybe do the free eBay return and buy another ?
The dents not noticeable once you use it on the table. Only when you carry it, very visible. Lucky keyboard, trackpad and screen were ok. Been using it for few hours so far so good. It's mainly for the kid to bring school so I don't expect a high survival rate. As long as it can be use for study no internal hardware issue I'm happy.
Mine arrived Thursday and shows battery with 92% capacity and 186 cycles also with AppleCare+ purchased 20 Jan 2023 expirying 19 Jan 2026.
It has a small nasty gouge on the screen so deep that it scatters light like a prism. It's much less noticeable on dark/black background. It's a shame because everything else seems in good condition. Anybody know whether this kind of damage can be easily/cheaply patched like a windscreen crack or repaired under AppleCare+ which includes "unlimited incidents of accidental damage from handling, each subject to a service fee." otherwise I could complain to the seller to play the lottery again. What do you think?
Here is a photo and 7 second video that illustrates it better.
Oooh yeah that definitely is quite bad.
I believe the lcd there probably damaged even.
Under ebay's "Certified" program thingy "Good" quality or whatnot.
I think that is worse than the good quality baseline so defintely can refund or do something about that?
Ok that is bad. I'd ask for return and refund or maybe swapped to something better
My laptop arrived on Thursday too in a sealed box with bubble wrap. Battery capacity of 94% with 102 cycles. There is also Applecare+ expiring 19 Jan 2026. The exterior is in good condition as advertised
However, it has a defect on the screen similar to samlor's laptop, showing as a bright dot that is noticeable on a dark/black screen when the screen is switched on
Here is a photo https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/11102/122211/pxl_20250…

Not sure I should get a refund or play the lottery again?
I alerted the seller yesterday with photos & a video to ask for replacement/remedy options and today a technician at an Apple Genius Bar (store) inspected it and told me that it's not just the glass that's gauged but the panel underneath is also damaged and can repair the screen for $149 under AppleCare+. It would be $800 or more otherwise. I'll be following up with the seller shortly.
Thanks samlor for sending through the update. Great to hear that the screen can be repaired under AppleCare+for $149. I've also alerted the seller yesterday with photos, asking for options to remedy the situation but haven't received a reply. I'll be following up with the seller shortly too.
FYI, the seller responded that they are happy to arrange a replacement and I've asked them how to proceed with that.
@samlor: Thanks, I've asked if the seller will allow a partial refund of $149 to get the screen repaired under AppleCare+ but the seller replied that all warranty repairs are to be done by them only and they were unable to pay a third-party tech to fix any issues (even Apple?)
They have offered a return for either warranty repair from them or a refund. I'll ask them how to proceed with either option.
@jammy2: Gotcha, I think that's fair enough response from the seller. I mentioned the repair cost by Apple but didn't even ask for a partial refund because I liked that option least due to the extra effort on my part. They offered a replacement which I accepted and they emailed me a free return postage label to print myself. I repacked it and sent it back by taking it to my local Australia Post office. They've been reasonable to deal with so far so hopefully they continue to be responsive and hopefully they won't take too long to send me a replacement and hopefully the replacement will be better. I know that's a lot of hope but others appear to have received good units that they are happy with so hopefully I/we won't be the exception.
@kjhooker: I'd call it A grade with 93% battery capacity and 179 cycles. Took addittional time and effort but no extra money. Happy with it and the seller response, thanks.
@samlor: Great. Yeah also i did return for replace due to scren crack issues. Hopefully replacement is in better condition
Just received my MacBook Air, honestly looks brand new. Winning!
Time to retire the trusty 2015 MBP!
Appreciate the post OP and Aussie Computer Trader.
Shine your phone flashlight at the screen with it off, do you notice a bunch of minor scratches etc?
Just did that. only thing i picked up was the tinniest mark which I didn't even notice earlier.
Also, has appleCare+ until 19th Jan 2026, battery cycle count is 160
neat! my battery health is 90%, 174 cycle. same aplecare plus till 19 jan 26
PSA: for the love of all that is holy, do not shine a black light on it
Bought a "premium" model of this after seeing this offer for $640-ish delivered. Arrived today in excellent condition with reasonably low battery cycles (200 or so) and bonus AppleCare 'til Jan 2026 (by accident, definitely not part of the deal).
Pretty happy so far.
what's the premuim model
Just a higher grade of refurb.
Finally opening mine today.
Physically basically flawless.
Battery not the best at 84% with 300ish cycles.
Not a big deal as it will mostly be an at home device…
Happy!
There's some evidence you can slow battery aging by using management software like Al Dente and similar — esp if you're going to leave it plugged in all the time.
Anecdotal: wife's 2017 Mac was plugged in 24/7. 3 years later, the battery is cooked and can't work long unplugged.
I ran my 2015 Mac battery to zero once or twice a month. Maybe not necessary but 10 years and 556 cycles later, battery health is 83%. coconutBattery stats
I've installed that on my new refurb of this order as well.
never heard of it till yesterday but got it installed…
The advertising of the pro features n stuff throws me off though… hope the basic free feature of limiting it to 80% is good though.
Good one. I keep mine at 70%, unsure if it matters too much.
Google AIO agrees and cites a few sources.
Some report excellent outcomes.
Cheers mate. Installed it. Can't hurt.
Just pulled the trigger on one or these this weekend. wondering if anyone that has received delivery also received a tax invoice? planning on using TRS
Mine arrived today, 89% battery capacity, screen is perfect, bit of shine on the keyboard, slight discoloration on one of the palm rests. General condition is better than i expected tbh. Applecare+ active until Jan 2026.
Happy with the purchase.
Hearing from people got their screen damaged and so…. not for me if the case. Mine will arrive in 3 days. Best of luck to myself lol.
How did yours turn out? Looks like a real mixed bag, some people getting banged up units, others looking almost new.
I received mine today. Only real issue I can see is a cosmetic scratch on the top right of the screen which is right above the time. Some minor scratches on the back where it looks like the hinge end of the laptop might have been dropped.
Battery health 98% and 60 cycle count.
AppleCare+ still in effect same as others have posted here
Received mine today. Physically presents as new. Battery cycle count 131, 92% max capacity. AppleCare+ till 19.01.26. Came with Sequoia 15.2. Very happy. Thanks op.
Received today. Condition is like new and couple of minor scratches hard to see. Battery life 92% and 148 cycles.
How do you check applecare+?
Received my order on Friday - and am very happy. Looks almost new except for a slight blemish on the screen (likely from those keyboard protectors) but it’s not noticeable when using the mac. No damage/scratches on casing, OS Sequoia, 96% battery, 152 cycles and applecare+ to 19.01.26.
I'm planning to take it overseas within 60 days so with TRS should bring it down to $490.70 or maybe $458.96 depending on the 10% GST invoice amount.
the gst will be from the total pay, in this case AU $699.00
Got mine today. Perfect condition except 1 dead pixel. I think I can live with that.
Cycle Count:
108
Maximum Capacity:
97%
the majority of reports being positive tipped me over the edge. Hope the one I ordered turns up equally as in good condition
appreciate all those that have posted their feedback to help me justify my ozb purchase temptations :)
turned up
battery 92%,158 cycles
Has a small dent on the back/bottom of the screen though but doesn't seem to have any impact on use
Screen has strange wear mark on part of it but its only visible when off and in the right angle of light
not as 'brand new' looking as some others mentioned but good enough and seems about average from others reports
Did anyone get a "TAX INVOICE" for their orders - I searched eBay but couldn't locate….
Need to message the seller on eBay and they'll send it
Really happy with my two that I ordered
97% (40 cycles)
100% (39 cycles)
Both look brand new
Only issue is WAF of the colour
@psychoacid: In 4 or 5 years these will be 8 or 9 year old systems, and pretty much at the end of their life for most users.
Do you reckon still good?
I would use one for home use then, but would expect someone else would reasonably be hoping for an upgrade by then. They will also likely be out of support and no longer getting security updates.
Again, that is fine for me and I will use opencore legacy patcher, but nobody will tell you a 9yro Mac is going to have no drawbacks.
