  • Is this the best one recommended by choice these days OP?

      Surprisingly no Bosch or Miele..

      • Thanks mate. Given the price I guess this is an easier choice

        • I'm actually leaning towards the Bosch, based on the discussion here.

Have no experience with Westinghouse reliability..

          • @prophet: I have a non-reversing Bosch and it's a f____g joke. It's a fabulous product except I can't dry bed sheets in it without undoing a knot of twisted fabric multiple times.

Is there a list for Reliability like they do for Washing Machines? Just from experience I wouldn’t touch the majority of these.
The reason I ask is I remember enquiring and “Recommended’ by Choice is based on ticking boxes of features and not their users experience of repairs like they do for the Reliability awards.

what is an average cycle time for these heat pump driers?

We have an old Electrolux 8kg dryer. They are great, get job done within an hour.

Is your old Electrolux a heat pump drier?

      • +1

Sounds like a vented dryer. Even the fastest heat pumps take over 3 hours.

        • No way. I've got the ALDI heat pump dryer. And I can do a decent size load on the "Extra dry" setting in about 1.5 hours

        • Oh snap, why is that?!

  • Ive been keen on a heat pump dryer so thanks for sharing OP! The prices have certainly started to come down! However with solar and OVO's free power between 11-2….i will extend the life of my old vented fisher and paykel dryer until the economics dont stack up anymore! The thing is 30 years old but still works!

    • Yes I'm in the same boat - I have OVO free 11AM-2PM and now a home battery (which means I can time shift the free energy anyway) I'm also debating this exact same thing and whether it's worth spending $750+ on a heat pump dryer we use infrequently or just use the money as part of adding more battery capacity (or do both :))

      • As long as the OVO 3 hour free + solar cover the power usage, I will keep going with what I have.

@Remorhaz, out of interest, what battery did you get? How do the economics stack up?

        • +1

@rxjb I've got a Sigenergy battery stack - currently with 10kW inverter and 24kWh of batteries but considering adding another one or two 8kWh modules to it using the fed rebate

I didn't look massively deeply into the economics of payback - I was mostly aiming to get my per kwh usage costs down to near zero and just pay the daily supply fee (tho having two EV's charging at home does change things) - my guess is payback would actually be closer to a decade

          • @Remorhaz: If you sell, or decide to leave, can you unplug and take it with you?
Or else you just leave behind $XXXX worth of goods?

            • @Lord Ra: I guess technically you could but I expect you wouldn't - it would be part of the value of the property
