When are olive oil prices going to reduce in line with the bumper crops?

  • +12

Well done OP for spotting this genuine deal. Given the fact that it’s hard for the average Joe to spot authentic olive oil among the deceptive and proof-based lies surrounding olive oil worldwide, it’s great to see a (hopefully) reliable olive oil being posted here at a true bargain price.

    Here’s the breakdown:

    • Moro Extra Virgin Olive Oil 4L and Moro Mild Taste Olive Oil 4L at $49 each (was $65) at Woolworths are both certified under the Australian Olive Oil Association (AOOA) Quality Seal Program. This means they’re independently tested and verified as authentic, meeting strict international and Australian standards for purity and quality[1][2].
    • The Extra Virgin is genuine EVOO, while the Mild Taste is a blend of refined and extra virgin olive oil—also certified, but not 100% extra virgin[1][2].
    • At $1.23/100ml, this is one of the lowest prices for certified olive oil in a large format in Australia.

    Comparison with Other Certified Brands:

Brand/Product Size Price (AUD) Price per 100ml Certification/Notes
    Moro EVOO 4L $49 $1.23 AOOA Certified
    Cobram Estate EVOO 750ml $25 $3.33 AEVOO/OliveCare®, 100% Australian
    Remano (Aldi) EVOO 3.8L $49.99 $1.32 Certified, value-focused

Premium Australian brands like Cobram Estate and Red Island are more expensive per litre, but offer 100% Australian-grown oil and top-tier freshness and quality.

    How to ensure authenticity:
Look for the AOOA Quality Seal (for Moro) or OliveCare®/AEVOO certification (for Australian brands) on the label—these indicate the oil has passed strict purity and quality tests[1][2][6].

    Summary:
This Moro deal is a genuine bargain for certified olive oil in bulk. If you want 100% Australian-grown oil, consider Cobram Estate or Red Island, but expect to pay more. For value and assurance of authenticity, this is a strong pick[1][2].

    • Is the Aldi Remano still good enough then when there aren't sales on etc?

Thank you and appreciate the detailed information.

With the price of olives dropping this should be the normal price of olive oil now. Coles & Woolies both running these fake 'specials' every other week now whilst maintaining unjustifed retail prices.

  • Aldi 3l Australian Extra Virgin Olive oil is $49 how does this compare to Cobram and Red Island?

    • Canstar rates it 5 stars, compared to 4 stars for Cobram Estate

  • Red Island also owns Cobram estate olive oil.

It is suspected that the Woolies Australian one is rebranded Red Island. Same bottle, same best-before/harvest-date font etc.

  • $44.10 with the rewards Extra Program!!

    • I redeemed some of my FlyBuys points (10,000 pts) and got it for free from Coles.

  • thanks Op, which of these has a high smoke point and good for stir-frying?

I recommend peanut oil for stir frying (I use the Picky Picky brand).

I also add it to my peanut butter to smooth it out if it dries.
