$30 cheaper than the EB deal but I would rather pay that and pick it up than have it delivered as I'm in VIC. Great find, regardless.

    • you can get a disc version ps5 that comes with a stand and disc drive for 950 brand new now apparently.

    • +3

      950 + 124 + 49 = 1123 disc version of ps5 pro.

      • +3

Yes and $1123 is alright price because for the rest of us who bought at retail, we had to pay like $1350 with disc drive.

      • I bought disc drive from jb when it was 10% off, so $111.6

      • +2

Where did you get the $49?
Not including the stand isn’t as egregious as not including a disc drive or making that an option.

        • +1

I go by the original ps5 it came with all that so every other ps5 needs to be under the same set of accessories. for the disc version.

          • @kungfuman: Oh that stand was just annoying. No one actually needs it. Looks way cleaner without it tbh.

          • @kungfuman: The stand is clearly different from the previous PS5 stand. While that one was entirely plastic, the separate stand has a metal ring on the outside.

      • Wait, what's the $49 for?

    • +3

Same. I don't trust the couriers/delivery drivers to handle it with care so would rather pick it up via the EB deal at my local.

      • +1

Absolutely. $30 is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

    • Can't see the PS5 Pro on sale for $980 on the eb games website anywhere. Am I missing something?

      • +1

Did you add the coupon code?

        • +1

Ah on ebay - got it. Thanks.

          • +1

@bjd533: Sorry, forget to mention that vital bit of information 😆

            • +1

@Maths Debater: All good - I picked one up with this offer. I think the Pro is pretty good. Cleary a luxury buy but if you have the itch then there's definitely an observable bump to performance.

              • +1

@bjd533: Absolutely, no matter how much people wanna criticize it, it isn't for everyone. I don't think we will see it cheaper than this, especially considering reports of another price rise.

  • Damn these guys keep on making it difficult: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909805

    • +21

If you've already got a ps5 you don't need the pro

      • +14

No one needs a Pro, much like they don't need a gaming console, but what if they want it?

        • +2

Well, the Pro version is just a message from Sony to give us a glimpse of how much they’re going to charge for the PS6.

  • +10

honestly as a person with 2x base ps5s… i would rather be looking to add the switch 2 to my collection if i had money to burn.

absolutely not worth the pro model

    • I have the base and pro, pro is a BEAST. Very noticeable if you're a real gamer.

      • +42

I hate those filthy fake gamers.

        • +2

We have a Sony rep above trying to sell hard on PRO, whilst forgot to tell people you can't play disc games UNLESS you buy the Add-on Blueray disc drive which costs $100+ not exactly "Cheap" as Nickname suggests.

          That's more filthy

          • +2

@neonlight: As a person who also upgraded to the pro I also feel the pro is a worthwhile investment. The benefit of the drive being cheaper than when we bought it makes it more appealing.
Also I have a little regret buying the disc drive as I prefer digital. Works better with my ps portal

            • -2

@maverickjohn: no gaming console is an investment…

              • +4

@tempco: You took this too literally, it won't generate you income, but it will provide you an enjoyable experience which is better than the base.

          • @neonlight: If you think that, guess you aren't a real gamer! Only a fake one!

          • +1

@neonlight: These real gamers (grown men with high disposable income) will literally buy any new console for any price and justify it to themselves somehow and also spend more time complaining about games on Whirlpool then playing games.

            • +1

              @Brick Tamland: *than
let's face it, men with high incomes, that's most of ozbargain

            • +1

@Brick Tamland: Thank you mate I agree with you. Some people never grow up. Except they can afford it so splash on meaningless upgrades and only thing they can show off about

              • +1

@neonlight: It's genuinely sad. But it's this attitude that kinda spoils the hobby for everyone else that is just trying to have some fun. They are the same person that ruins mountain biking because they make fun of people on hardtails for not having a proper full suspension mountain bike or not having the latest and greatest DSLR when trying out photography.

I promise I am not having any less fun playing Indiana Jones on my base PS5 than a real gamer playing it on a pro.

                • +1

@Brick Tamland: I'm having more fun on my R36s than my Switch I can tell you that.

                • +1

@Brick Tamland: I think while you will enjoy the game played on base PS5 .. or heck even PS4 if it's the same title, there are iterative gains with each level of console you gain. I can assure you that there are some games that really improve the experience on PS5 pro.
                  Is it necessary? No.
Is it worth the extra? That's subjective. It's not a hard no as you are aligning yourself to, not is it a hard yes as some have alluded to. But there are performance and visual gains that exist, it's whether or not you appreciate it enough to justify it.
A very good example anecdotally of where the PS5 pro shines, are FF 7 rebirth and Hogwarts legacy. I tried both those games on og and once again on pro and there were significant enough improvements to notice the gains.
But other games (including my personal Goty/generation Clair obscur) the gains are not that obvious and it wouldn't matter which PS5 you had.

      • +1

Whats differences do you notice? Genuine questions as I'm looking to get a PS5 when GTA6 is released.

        • +1

RT is better on the pro than on original when you use PS5 quality mode. Performance mode is faster but almost as good in quality as fidelity on base PS5.
So either you will have better RT in quality or better image quality equivalent of base PS5 fidelity in performance mode

      • +2

Wouldn't a real gamer have a PC? lol

        • +2

          Only fake gamers say this

        • Real gamers have all platforms.
          A Ryzen 9 PC + PS5 Pro + Switch 2 + Xbox Series X

    • Pro is a very noticeable improvment for games that need it like FF7 Rebirth. Maybe wouldnt have bought it full price, but the launch EB Games trade deal made it worth it.

      • I'm a pc gamer and i think that ff7 rebirth game is on pc… so that's where the best experience graphic wise could be.

        • I bought Rebirth on PS5 for $15 before they even announced a PC Port, but that begs the question, if you would rather play any game on PC, why do you own 2 ps5s in the first place? Sell them and put it towards a new GPU if you dont value the console experiance.

          • @Vinodra: i got my first one from a targer sale for like $680? around there gow bundle cuz i did want a ps5 plus had a bit of ps plus deluxe from the old tricks to get it cheap from turkiye…

and then my friend sold me their ps5 for a really good deal that came with like 4 games sooo i kinda felt like it was worth buying it.

and it'll pay off to be honest. i either could've sold the second one for a profit then or what I'm doing now is waiting for a ps5 jailbreak to come out for my first ps5, keeping it on an older system updste till well a jb releases. then when that happens I'll probably finally play ratchet n clank game and finish it.

      • +1

Wait for Black Friday, don't get ANY console at launch

    • +4

Yes and No. It's an expensive upgrade but to say not worth it is a stretch because you either want the best console experience or you don't. There are lots of games now with huge differences. If you like PlayStation and exclusives, why would you not want to play at the highest framerate and resolution. The only people who say the Pro is not worth it are people who don't have one.

    • +4

Gameranx did a '6 months later' Pro video just a few days ago which basically just makes the point that while the Pro wasnt 'worth it' at launch the real comparison should be all the games that have had pro updates already and whats to come. Side by side screenshot comparisons at launch on games arent the same as they are today

I own a base PS5 and am about to make a big TV upgrade with all the usual brightness/resolution/frame rate upgrades that come along with it. The pro didnt mean much to me at launch but im a heavy gamer and over time its becoming more appealing, wont bite yet but I know the FOMO will build and it will just take one work bonus for the splurge, especially if I pay less than others did at launch

      • -1

I hate those filthy light gamers

    • Imagine having money to burn… I’d play Ratchet & Clank because that’s what my savings are doing.

  • +13

what you guys saying are true, but you forget that pro is not for everyone and sony is not expecting every ps5 owner upgrade to pro. it is just another option there. if it fits you interest, then it's good.

    • +3

With the EB games trade deals it was too easy of a decision for me. No reason to hold back if you play heaps.

      • +2

Exactly, everyone has their own situation, play time, type of games they play, where to play, when to play, budget, etc. if it is not good for one might be perfect for another.

      • +1

        Yep that's what swayed me

      • I play 'heaps', funny thing (heading into my third year of owning a ps5 console) is that over the last 6 months I've been using it much more than my Xbox…… I'd consider a PS5Pro purchase if not for the fact that to take advantage of it, I'd need a newer tv that can do VRR (2019 Samsung 4K tv owner with only HDMI 2.0 ports lol).

    • They better not release exclusives that run "far better" on PRO, gamers will be furious

  • +4

This is the best way to play GTA6 at launch.

    • +4

I've been saying since day 1 of Pro, there is no GTA 6 PC release at launch, as soon as people see how much better it runs on Pro compared to base PS5, people will start running out to buy one and then all of a sudden they'll be singing that Pro is a worthy console.

      • Likely but by then the PRO will be more aligned to the price of the base model that they paid 2 years ago

    • +3

True but by time that is, the PRO will probably be hundreds cheaper still best part of a year away

      • Unless the AUD somehow gets stronger (not likely) I really doubt it, consoles arent exactly getting cheaper to produce this generation, it probably will not get much cheaper than this untill mid 2027 when the next round of consoles will be announced.

    • +1

lol isn't that game coming out in 2026? If we are lucky?

      • -1

lol isn't that game coming out in 2026?

You make it sound like the distant future, it's only 6 months away mate.

  • +1

    No PS5 Pro disc drive. It's an add-on don't forget this~!

  • Wherecan can i trade base ps5 towards ps5pro , where i get the best deal , jbhifi or ebgames ?
    Please advise
    DT

      • +1

        Jesus WTF
it would cost me 710 + i have to give up 3 ps5 disc game
        i pass probably
        Thanks Anyway
I did it withb ps4to pro b4 and it cost me like 200 bucks all up, without selling games

        • Trade-in offers have always been about convinience, not value.

        • -1

Well you won't need those disc games with a PS5 pro. There is no disc drive

          • @serpserpserp:

            There is no disc drive

Unless you buy one of course, then there is.

        • It depends what level you are and what you can get cash value for the PS5 Pro.

          $588 (Level IV) + $49 (Plus Membership) + $15 (3 x $5 Games) + $320 (Level IV Cash Value of the PS5 Pro) = $972.

      • This is a terrible deal

        • Right now it is, but not when the console is back at RRP.

  • Will jb hifi price match this?

    • +1

No because it requires a coupon code.

      • +2

And I've never been able to get them to price match an eBay listing

        • Yep, that was the next thing they told me. No dice with eBay in general, regardless of coupon or no coupon.

  • What's the practical difference between pro and disc for a layman who has barely touched his PS4 in about 5/6 years? I mainly want PS5 for GTA VI in future.

    • +8

One the base model, players had to choose between a 30FPS Fidelity mode or a 60FPS Performance mode.

The Pro "aims" to deliver the same Fidelity mode at 60FPS.

…and double the internal storage to 2TB.

      • +3

Thanks for the clear and helpful reply.

    • +2

Well you've got 12 months to wait for deals then. Would wait until the Nov-Dec deals for Black Friday.

Pro has better performance and websites will glaze "45% improved performance" etc however in actual testing you're talking like ~10 FPS difference and is heavily depending on the game. Lots of reviews on youtube with side by side benchmarks showing minimal differences between the two versions for lots of games.

It's in the same regard as high end graphics cards - pay double the price for 20% improved performance. Personally I think the price for the PS5Pro is absurd at ~$1150 w/ disk drive attachment vs $600 for a PS5 Slim Disc version.

      • Yeah, I have time. I guess if I get sooner, I can enjoy it earlier but I'm definitely in no major rush. I might wait at least until Black Friday, but it will probably keep dropping even after that just by virtue of a lot of the initial demand dropping.

        Thanks for your informative reply.

      • The games I play are quite noticeably better on ps5 pro. TLOU 1 & 2, F1 25, Gt7.

        It's a very good console.

  • +2

PS5 Pro is noticeably sharper (higher resolution) and smoother in FF7 and GT7. Also, I can see clearer in GT7 with PSVR2.

    • Yeah the resolution is noticeably sharper but can you really see the difference? I'm struggling to tell apart 1080p Blu Ray and 4k UHD streams on my Sony tv. Most of the signals are upscaled anyways.

      • +1

this depends hugely on your eyes, and viewing distance to tv.

I really like my ps5 pro.

  • +3

This is a detailed guide on what more can you expect on PS5 Pro compared to PS5:
    https://www.resetera.com//threads/all-games-with-ps5-pro-enh…

  • +1

    Better than 5070

  • +5

I am so tempted! If this was sub $900 i think i would have pulled the trigger. I have a day one disc edition that i think that i could probably sell for around $400 so i would be paying $500 for the optimal Playstation experience, the device to be covered by warranty and 2TB of space.

    The copium is real!

  • +2

    I miss 2008 console prices :(

    • +3

PS3 was literally $500 which is literally $742ish today, more than PS5 Pro price in the US

      • +1

Correction: I miss asking my mom for an Xbox 360 and waiting all year for us to save the money to buy one

Nowadays my rent is 97% of my income and I’ve wanted a ps5 for so long :(

  • Feel like there could be better deals just around the corner maybe.. but this one is tempting!

    • +1

$900 is the cheapest we will see this I reckon but I could be wrong. Discounts don't appear to be very common with the Pro. Under 1k was enough for me to pull the trigger.

    • +2

I doubt it. Sony tends to increase prices (have done so several times this generation)

This is a very good and unexpected deal

      • +1

Yep, it's possible that we might not even see this again.

  • Has Sony sold many PS5 Pros?
