Will this fix my hearing loss or my ability to ignore poor life decisions?

    • Because your wallet will be empty, you’ll be forced to stay at home where your life choices will be minimal - therefore overall yes, you will make better life decisions by having all choice removed.

      • Internet shopping lol

    My god..

what a stupid (profanity) sell up

read the description of the product….it's got EVERY audiphile buzzword…

Just get a set of HD800s and be set..they are the god of headphones under a grand and u never need anything better than that

    • +4

C'mon, 'high-purity copper' and 'gold plated' are like catnip to audiophiles 😂.

To be fair most people would be more than happy with some Sennheiser HD 6xx or similarly for $300-350.

$5k headphones means you should spend just as much or more on your source and headphone amp.

    • if a self proclaimed audiophile gets this they're as much of an expert as a wine sommelier and scientific credibility as a chiropractor…

Reference headphones are for engineers, producers and such; not for your "audiophile" who thinks vinyl is the best medium cos it's analogue

      • +1

I highly doubt these "reference" headphones would be used by professionals. These headphones measure poorly and are very thin. For pro headphones you want Harman like as that's closer to a speaker and like taking into consideration the average human. Even then just use speakers like there is no replacement.

        • you're probably right about being a crappy reference but this is definitely marketed at a fool with money who thinks just cos they believe in the marketing koolaid that there is such a thing as being an audiophile and that they're said audiophile

          • @bigpoppa: They are an audiophile if they buy this lol. It's more like a dirty word now. Even "audiophiles" don't want to use that word to refer to themselves anymore.

            • @HaydosK: Dirty word, haha. John Darko puts it well - 60% about the music (enjoyment/taste) and 40% tech and gear.
I don't walk around saying I'm an audiophile but appreciate decent sound and reaching by testing out different combinations and gear - up to a price.

They just aren't good bang for buck but no doubt people with more money than sense may pick them up. Wouldn't be too many frequenting Ozbargain though haha.

Just like when you see people getting buzzed into the Rolly store, makes you raise an eyebrow.

All these people b####ing in the comments don't even know that it is a system and the amp is sold separately for more G's 😂

I listened to them at Melb hifi show but feel it's lacking bass compared to the Meze Elite

    • Well they both have problems. I would say yes it lacks bass but the meze can have too much bass also (I think the elite is fine but the cheaper ones where so bassy lol) But yeah I didn't enjoy them that much either.

    • but feel it's lacking bass

that's bc these are reference headphones made for people who know what sound is not for "audiophiles" who will get their mind blown with any pair of alibaba beats knockoff

I am very happy with my vintage SR-202/SRM-Xh setup that I got from Yahoo Japan via Remambo. Total cost ~250 AUD. Vintage may be a more affordable option for those seeking to try electrostatics.

    • Just to add to that, I tried the L300, L500 and the TOTL X9000 at e-Earphone in Akihabara, Japan. At least for me in that short test the base L300 delivered 90% of the feel of the X9000. Proof here: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/409487/122256/img_3045…. Even the vintage 202 blows my HD58X way out of the water at a lower price point (paid full retail via MassDrop).

One thing to note with vintage Stax is that if you move your head you may hear a sort of crinkling sound, but you get used to it.

  • You know how they do these tests where they get pretentious sommeliers to try all sorts of wines the the cheap ones winning isn't a rare occasion?
It would be great to see this with audiophiles and headphones/speakers.

I wonder what is the profit margin on one of this?

    • +1

You genuinely don’t need to explain a $5000 headphone.

If you need an explanation, it’s clearly not for you.

If it was for you, you really don’t need an explanation. You already have spent countless hours researching headphones.

      • +2

Still a lazy post but good discount. Is what it is, the best description won't sell more units of $5000 headphones on Ozbargain ha

  • the HD800s look not so expensive now!!!

  • +3

Not sure what is everyone's issue with this.

STAX is well established as an audiophile headphones brand - even more than Sennheiser. Even Sennheiser HE 1 Orpheus, as their flagship headphones, adopts electrostatic technology.

This is deal is well out of my price range (I have the STAX SR-507), but seems like a decent discount compared to other stores. It is well-regarded in reviews: https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/stax-sr-009s-srm-700s

    • +2

Yeah agreed, it's a deal on this specific product.

Whether there are better things to spend that amount of money on is very much debatable.

      • Yes definitely not the sweet spot.

  • I suspect Addicted To Audio will stop ranging STAX products so this is kind of a clearance sale.
All STAX products on their site are heavily discounted and most of them are sold out.

This is actually an awesome price for SR-009S, like 35% off which is unheard of.
It's even comparable to the cheapest price in Japan except that you could claim back 10% GST as a foreign visitor in Japan but on the other hand buying from Addicted To Audio, you save on a flight ticket (and other expanses) and get local after sales support.
