Original Coupon Deal

Very cheap mini PC deal going for a N100 system including base specs. I paid more than this for a different N100-based system without storage or RAM last year. Price requires the US$29 level coupon.

As an alternative, the (soldered) DDR5 GMKtec G2 with 12GB RAM and a 512GB SATA SSD is going for USD$80 before codes.

I feel like I should buy this now and think of a use for it later

  • +3

EU plug only, if that matters to anyone.

  • Amazing as a miniPC for the kids if you have an old screen

Basically is similar to an i5-4570 we use to get in the refurbs 5 years ago, they perform okay

    • +2

Can it run Roblox or Minecraft with decent frames ?

      • +1

        yes

      • easily

  • +12

Mang I've paid more for a raspberry pi after case and accessories.

    • which rasp bi is that…

i used to think about gettin one till i realised how expensive they are

  • What is the use case for these slow mini PCs?

    • +1

Maybe a NAS? 2.5Gbps LAN is quite decent these days.

      • no SATA ports, only 2 * M.2 slots…. one is 2280 , the other one is 2242.

N100 CPU have 1 group of E-Cores with no P cores, its cache system is subpar and inefficient, so using as daily desktop machine could feel sluggish on higher loads. (single channel memory made this worse)

can't NAS properly (lack of storage options), can't Desktop properly (Sluggish).

the only use case IMO is Media Player. N100' IGP have quite decent decoding capability.

        • +2

Agree. If only it had two 2.5gbps it could be an openwrt router

        • +8

N100/N150 based mini pc's are very good for homelab. Install Proxmox or linux or debian and you can run many services without any issues. I have one with dual 2.5g nic/ 16gb/256gb running Proxmox with HAOS, Plex, Adguard, Cloudflared, Uptime etc. With dual nic you can easily run router OS/firewall on it like opnsense etc which can be way better than any consumer/pro-consumer router out there.

        • You don't need SATA. My NAS is a Rasberry Pi plugged into a 5 port HDD bay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/166339674790

          • @gmatht: I personally don't trust external enclosure that much, especially those multi-port ones.

the power supply is a bit hit or miss, USB connectivity could gone loose, let alone USB controller issue.

on top of that… how's RAID support like on those? can I do RAID 1?

with the 5 slot, any chance I can do 2* HDD on RAID 1, another 2* HDD on RAID 1, and a single drive?

            • @OMGJL: I use btrfs software raid. btrfs could certainly do that, or put all 5 drives into a single "RAID1"-like pool.

They aren't slow. The n97s for example can easily handle multiple 4k streams or cameras with the onboard graphics, leveraging quicksync. They'll crush normal office or study work and laugh doing it. Hell it gets playable fps in gta 5. Albeit most settings turned down.

Plenty of people also use this as a home lab. Run plex, home assistant, local dns, few security cams, vpn and filtering, and more.

Storage can be a nas, or couple of usb drives, etc.

All at a very low power draw.

      • +2

I made mine into an extreme low budget NAS with a bunch of old hard drives with one of these -

        https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005007317266696.html

just put that thing in an old storage tub, dremelled a hole in it, put a pc case fan in it run from a usb to 3 pin connector. If you were running multiple 4k streams conceivably the usb 3 connection might not be enough but it's worked fine for all the purposes I've put it to.

      • N97 is actually a faster cpu than N100 - 3.6Ghz vs 3.4Ghz

      • +3

Geez that's a lot of hype for something that's comparable to a 13 year old i5-3570. Saying it will "crush normal office and study and laugh while doing it" is a tremendous exageration. Yes it can do it, but laughing whilst crushing…really?

For comparison, the latest mid-spec i5 which is used by businesses for mid-range office PC's has 2.5x single core and 8x multi-core performance. Yes they're completely different products in terms of size, power, cost and efficiency. But I still disagree with your wording.

You make some good points, but this can also be misleading as there are plenty of tasks that won't just offload everything to the GPU.

In short, the CPU isn't good but because playing media for example use the integrated GPU, it will work fine for specific tasks.

        • Most media will work, but not all media will be supported with GPU acceleration, and the CPU is too slow to do it via software.
        • Security cameras still require a lot of CPU depending on the quality of the setup you are running. This CPU won't run a decent setup.

Software efficiency in general has nosedived, particularly when you add in Windows 11 Bloat. I would not be getting this computer for anything but Plex.

        • +1

also those that love it's low power usage may be disappointed when thats only when idle. once at some load it's the same as an old laptop

    • +1

Arr + Plex suite, VPN server, HomeAssistant, SillyTavern,

But if you're just using Windows, Word, Chrome, etc you just attach one of these on the back of a monitor and you have a home PC.

    • every (profanity) time… facepalm.

    • +1

I use one for Home Assistant, works really well. Other uses might be a pfsense firewall or similar on your network. Guess you could also turn it into a NAS etc. Many uses

  • +6

Price went up to US$93.48 before discount :(

    • +3

      Yeah, greedy butt heads.

  • +3

Good for home assistant, much better than a raspberry pi for most people.

    • +2

100% when a Raspberry Pi 5 8G costs $179.95 and then you need to add power supply & case.

      • Which is faster , this or RP5?

        • This N100 by nearly double. Plus it has quicksync for video decoding which means its way better for media usage.

The only benefit Raspberry pi has are it's GPIO pins and slightly lower power draw.

  • +3

This deal expired? I cannot seem to get the price shown.

  • The price fluctuates from time to time; it was 93 AUD just 5 minutes ago. It’s a good idea to check it periodically.

    • Yeah, it looks like a ~50% price hike in the span of a few hours. No deal for me.

  • I can't get this price which coupon code do I use?

    • +2

Pretty sure it has expired. Roughly 50% dearer now.

      • +3

Well I should know to never sleep and always be Oz bargaining that will teach me.

  • +1

I wish this had ucb c.

    • yes but with these mini pc's it requires a more expensive motherboard so not at this price

    • Soyo M4 Pro

  • Does anyone know how long it takes for Aliexpress orders to track at Cashrewards?

  • dang i saw this, this morning!

    Tempting deal lol…

But i should save my money for them 16gb ones

    • What are our options for 16gb+ ddr5 PC's? I like the beelink eqi12 24gb ram and i3 1220p or something but it seems like they're not making them anymore?

      • there are lots.. just type in ddr5 and 16gb and n100/n150 on aliexpress.

    • we cant upgrade the ram ???

      • With the G3 you can.

        • DDR4 RAM, single channel only.

  • Win 11 Pro?? Is it a cracked version? What's the catch? Cheaper to buy this PC just for the Win 11 key.

    • Key is tied to the motherboard so it's not transferable

  • available again

  • aaaaand price went up

  • Looks like it's available again at the originally posted price, in case anyone's still interested. US $56.56 before tax, doesn't seem to require any coupons.

Edit: And the price has shot back up… Need to get in at the right time I guess.

    • It's crazy
