I've been looking for DT 990s for ages and finally pulled the trigger. The main differences between the DT 990 Pro and the DT 990 Editions are cosmetic, as advised by BD and also as per various forum posts. Essentially, the Pros are meant for studio usage and the Editions are meant for home usage:
1. Silver vs Black
2. Edition has cushier and more conformtable headband vs Pro having a headband that is easily replacable with a cheaper costing replacement
3. Similarly to 2 - Edition has a cushier and more conmfortable earpads
4. The Pros have a greater clamping in order to stay more securely on the head whilst moving around the studio vs Edition having less clamping to be more comfy at home
5. The Pros have a twisty cable vs the Editions having a straight cable
I am told there are no differences in sound and componentry at all.
These are still made in Germany (for those that are concerned since the acquistion, although this isnt meant to change anyway)
Postage was $16.50 for me to metro Melbourne for standard shipping, express was $25. I belive it is free shipping above $249.99.
They have other items on sale too. https://www.beyerdynamic.com.au/pages/deals
I posted a deal in a while, please let me know if i missed anything.
Description:
The DT 990 is an open dynamic headphone of exceptional quality and suitable for all music styles; whether you are into pop, classical or jazz, the DT 990 will deliver the true sound as it was originally intended to. The reduced weight of the diaphragm and moving coil result in a similar pulse characteristic as electrostatic headphones, and in combination with a carefully tailored frequency response provide a natural and balanced sound.
Soft ear and headband pads together with a single-sided cable ensure listening comfort during extended periods of use.
The DT 990 is still manufactured in Germany providing an excellent quality.
