I highly recommend installing OnionOS game launcher and purchasing/replacing the MicroSD Card with a reputable brand such as SanDisk or Samsung.

This one uses a CPU that costs only $4, which is far inferior to the RK3266 used in the R36S that was on sale for 30 AUD. It only has 128MB of RAM, while the R36S has 1GB. The screen specs are the same, so I really don't understand why this one is still priced at 45 AUD…

Controls/buttons are better, overall build quality is better on the MM+.

Onion OS is arguably the gold standard for Linux OSs for retro handhelds, and is only available on the Miyoo Mini and MM+.

I reckon the MM+ is a steal at this price.

R36s looks like better value from a pure hardware perspective. R36s also supports PortMaster, where MM+ doesn't. So there are quite a few factors to consider.

For a first retro handheld, you can't really go wrong with either.

If one of these handheld types lets me play NFSU+U2+MW I would be so down

    • +1

Such a handheld does exist. You’ll beed to spend more.

  • Anyone purchase one of these previously and have any issues/feedback?

    • +2

This is a very old device that was very popular at one point. There will be heaps of reviews out there, eg. YouTube.

      • What's the go to device now? Thinking about one for flights

        • +1

Depends on what you want to play, and how much you want to pay.

This is a great device for PS1, GBA, SNES etc. That kind of era and You can do some N64, but the lack of joystick hurts it.

Otherwise any of the Retroid devices are great, I use the 4 Pro myself, and handles everything up to PS2/Gamecube. Or if you want decent switch and 3ds as well, the Odin 2 Pro.

Still playing it every day, and it's one of the my favourite (if not the favourite) retro handhelds.

      It’s great. No issues

  • Got this last time at $27 USD. Great device. Lots of game for the price. Also got it from this seller.

This was my first device that i got that made me get into this hobby and now some 30+ handhelds later, stil use it. Its great with OnionOS as mentioned before. Mines been running solid for over 2 years at this point with a good 256gb samsung card.

    • Honestly just curious and don't mean to come across as rude; but why do you have so many? I've seen a bunch of posts about people having a stack of various handhelds, but would it not be easier just to buy 1 slightly more expensive one, as opposed to 30 cheap ones? or do they all do something different and better than each other?

      • When I was a kid, we had like 20 Playtime handhelds
        https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQII9fi…

        And those brick games
        https://external-preview.redd.it/who-else-had-a-brick-game-b…
We had like over 10-15 with different versions.
They were so cheap like $5 each.

        • I had quite a few as well. Recently i saw some selling for upto $100 or more. I couldn't believe that.

      • +1

I've got alot more expensive ones then this one. I started off with this and the rg351v which i stll have. But i have slowly slowly been gifting away and selling some off. I aim to have less then 10. I have probably about 20 at the moment.

But i do have some duplicates of some too such as multiple r36s and Trimui Smartpro etc. I've bought most of mine cheaper then some deals posted up here before. The easiest way is just to add them to your list and you will find if you check often enough they get discounted quite often but the best times generally are during the bigger sales aliexpress has from time to time.

But yeah a retroid pocket 5 or flip or a rg557 is better then most of them if your after a all in one device. If your after a bigger one you can always get a steamdeck or ally x as well as one of these cheaper devices.

        Hope that answers it.

    • you own 30+ handhelds? isnt one of those 30 an upgraded or superior model to this?

  • +2

Yeah lots of them…But nah i have given away a few and sold a few off as well. There are quite a few superior to this one.

Depends on your budget and form factor such as larger verticals or horizontals. I personally use my rg556, rgb30 and now rgcubexx alot more but also have all the rest of them. The Trimui smartpro and brick are better options then this is or even the rg40xxv if you want this style just with a bigger screen and more comfortable to play.

Also have a few r36s and even a r35s which are great budget options but they aren't made as good as the miyoo mini is. Theres too many more to list here to be honest.

But if your after a specific handheld chances are I've already got it or had it so just ask away.
