Nah, this monitor doesn't resolve 1080p nor 1440p properly. Has stretching and warped aspect ratios. Save your money and avoid.

    • +5

      Of course it doesn't, it's a 3:2 screen 🤷

      It's resolution is 2160x1440.

If you want to run 16:9 resolutions like 1080p then clearly you need to buy a 16:9 screen.

      • -3

        Did you not see

        Nor 1440p

        • +3

          1440p is 2560 x 1440.

          This monitor is 2160 x 1440.

It's a different physical shape - if you want to run widescreen resolutions, then you need to buy a widescreen monitor - this screen is not that.

          • -3

            @Nom: Lol it's 4:3 and it's not properly shown

            • +4

              @marshmall0w2: Not properly shown?

              • The main image literally says "15:10 Screen ratio"
              • If you look at the specifications it says "Display Ratio 15:10"

How much clearer do they need to make it?

If you know how ratios work then you will know that 15:10 is the same as 3:2 which is also the same as 2160:1440.

If it was 1440p @ 4:3 like you claim then the resolution would be 1920 x 1440.

              Is the resolution 1920 x 1440? or is it 2160 x 1440?

            • +1

@marshmall0w2: It's a 3:2 Panel (15:10) and it is advertised as that very clearly. It's perfect for me as it works out to the same height as my 14.5" 16:10 laptop (have had one of these for over a year).

        • 1440p is a term that refers to only the height being 1440px so even 1920 × 1440 (4:3) would still be classified as 1440p. Honestly it's a bit confusing if they don't clearly list the actual resolution/ratio but they do in the listing title.

This is the problem with AliExpress screens, I have two and they stretch non-native resolutions, zero options in the menu to preserve the aspect ratio. It's infuriating

      • When watching video content couldn't you just have black bars/frame? It'd disappointing to loose screen real estate but at least the image ratio coud stay un-skewed/stretched.

Or is this a concern for apps/games that can't/don't work natively/properly at 2160x1440 resolution?

        • I returned it. However I remember that when I plugged my phone (Samsung Dex) in, it showed a stretched image. It must have somehow reported to the phone a different ratio that its actual

          • @Averell: two devices there.
might have reported the correct dimensions but the phone didn't handle that properly and sent something that the monitor then had to deal with.
that also is consistent with what you wrote.

        • +2

You can't force the screen to keep the correct aspect ratio w/ black bars for consoles which only output in standard 1080p/1440p/2160p.

For Windows it's fine as you have those controls available in the settings/graphics driver control panel.

I've got this from a previous deal and it's fine but be aware there are NO vesa mounting holes on the back if you're planning on using some type of mount. (assuming it's still the exact same as the one I got about ~8 months ago)

If you want it to be mounted on an arm, you can, however, get a tablet arm that attaches to the edge of a desk with a clamp and holds the entire thing as if it were an ipad, and that actually works quite well for this.

    • +1

Not sure you would want a vesa mount on one of these, it would add to the thickness. Mine is only a couple of mm thick at the top, not thick enough for screws to go in.

      • Yeah and that's a great point. I just mentioned it because I bought it while assuming there was a vesa mount, given practically every regular monitor these days has it.

        • +1

I understand your thinking, but having VESA mounts would seem somewhat against the usual purpose of a "portable monitor."

          • @klaw81: A few holes in the back make it no less portable, and then proper stands become an option.

            • +1

@jbird84: Sure, but what percentage of buyers are likely to want to mount a "portable monitor" on a stand? It must be vanishingly small.

They're not just holes, they're threaded metal inserts that require structural reinforcement, and additional clearance inside the chassis to avoid a conflict with internal components, and a small additional cost in terms of additional hardware, design complexity and manufacturing processes. It would also likely make the finished product both thicker and heavier, which is not desirable.

I don't blame you for wanting an extra feature, but I'm also not surprised that it's not there.

3d printed some little legs from maker world and it's been great. The thing they call a stand is a JOKE

  • I'm wondering if there is a way to plug a mobile phone into a monitor like this, so you would get audio and video?

    • +1

You can but crap aspect ratio

      • Thanks for the speedy reply👍 That's good to know. What sort of cable would a person need to get for that?

BTW, I was not thinking of this specific monitor, but of a 16:9 one, that would display a movie file from the phone.

        Cheers 🍻

        • +1

A USB C to USB C can support both audio and video. Even a USB C to HDMI can. Just check that the monitor supports it

      • Good for tictok videos

  • Fantastic monitor! So good I bought three more for my office sites!

    Says EU Plug ⚠️
    Slight annoyance

    • +1

Doesn’t matter really. Just power it using the USB c port on your computer.

Anyone have a recommendation for a 18" screen that has a decent brightness?
