Short dated 700g Surfcoast Free Range Eggs expiry 20th June but the eggs still look quite fresh, would probably last longer if kept in the fridge.
There were a whole pallet load and some in fridge, no limit on them.

Business stock up too much to jack the price and now overstock?
If so, that’s Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed at its finest - backfired!
eggsellenté!
Exactly.
We are ranked in top 10 countries for egg pricing across globe.
The retailers/wholesalers are getting greedier.
Not much to the growers/ farmers.
Look at olive oil prices.
The farmers should sell direct to public.
Some do. Go to a farmers market. Is it any cheaper?
@coffeeinmyveins: No they will charge more than the supermarkets.
Yet they will sell to supermarkets for peanuts.
@Wiser: They increase prices at farmers markets to offset the losses they make when selling in bulk to supermarkets.
Probably some contract fudgery or the Walmart effect.
@FujinShu: Why would you support the farmers then?
This is the game colesworth played with Kaufland to get them run away.
They pushed the growers/ farmers to enter into exclusive contracts.
Without fresh food supplies Kaufland was unable operate.
I am sure we all agreed to suport diary farmers by paying more for milk.
Does this really support the farmers or the coffers of these corporates?
@Wiser: because the supermarkets buy a lot in bulk. The farmers do prefer the guaranteed cashflow, rather than take the risk of selling at a higher price to the public and risk lower cashflow due to unpredictable demand variations.
There's no free lunch.
@sangohan: That is why Austrlian grocery chains are most profitable compared to their other countries.
you are too naive, mecind, farmer sells you unwanted products from big supermarket with a higher price and label is so called "fresh" shit!
Makes sense as we are apparently in the top 10 minimum and average wages.
Eggsactly
More of them would throw them rather sell it at this price actually. My local Coles is recently stocking up some Cage Free eggs for $9. Full of them on the shelves while the $6 eggs aren't restocking
Perhaps they had none of the $6 eggs to restock. Just remember supermarkets don't really have a large receiving area to store stuff they get deliveries and get them to the floor as son as they can to sell them.
Perhaps they renamed the $6 to $9 and are just doing a bait n switch
Eggcelent deal!
Either Sell it for $10 a tray or $2 , seems like overstocking & jacking up pricing is backfiring.
$10? RRP in the image shows $11.75! That is day light robbery. I would give up eating eggs if this was the price of eggs in general.
I wonder if it’s “limited to 2 trays per day” or it’s ‘all eggs for all’?
If you’re in the area and are bodybuilding/ bulking - this is probably the cheapest bang for buck protein source! If I were you I’d stock up and refrigerate.
I easily consume 5-7 eggs per day on average
Eggs don’t ‘expire’ (but go bad). They can stay for lengthy time if 1. They are or were not washed, and 2. If kept in a cold fridge (not freezing)
Egg whites freeze well, freeze the whites and use the yolks for mayonnaise, cakes or pasta
7 eggs per day is a lot to eat.
True story but a friend have done 15-16 eggs/day while bodybuilding…
Eggs don’t ‘expire’
They'll become "century" eggs 😄
Perfect to save for if/when Trump visits.
Lol imagine losing the plot so badly and throwing eggs at the administration not responsible for jacking the price of eggs in the first place
People are so easily brainwashed these days. TDS

Is he into body building?
Is he into
bodybuildings?
YES ✅
That supermarket is such a ripoff.
We have very few options.
Oh my god $2 a dozen??? Haven't seen this shit since turn of covid
Yes, but probably not good to do that test unless you are just about to use the eggs. Washed eggs aren't as safe as unwashed eggs.
Most supermarket eggs are already washed.
Good deal for InGen.
The cafe owners of Sydney will be rushing over to secure supplies
$2 still too expensive for something that expires in 2 days.
If you store it in the fridge, they generally last longer than the expiry.
Aren't they stored in the fridge at Colesworth already?
Those are "best before" dates and colesworth fridges are not low temp ones - at least in most places. I have eaten them a week after expiry without issues. Same applies to milk. They are dated that way to be on the safer side.
Although I don’t like Dutton, but I have to say Dutton was right. Aldi sold it for $4.8 in April when Dutton says $4.2. I thought Dutton is an ozbargainer here.)
This would be perfect for body builders. Dozen eggs per day FTW!
The price jacking scam has been exposed. I also saw 50% off at Woolworths, while Aldi had nothing, and Coles has 2 per person.
I just spent $50 for 8 dozen free range eggs in Aldi. I'm seriously considering building a chicken coop for 4 Australorp hens. Screw this economy!
What are you using 8 dozen eggs for?
They're hard to buy, stupid bird flu scare limited supply so you gotta stock up when they have them
I looked into raising hens, but it seems that unless keeping a large number of hens (which would require a permit), it would be cheaper to just continue buying from retail. Have you done a cost benefit analysis?
You only need 4 Australorps, in winter 4 will do 12-16 eggs a week, warmer months double that. Worst case 6-7 that's half a dozen free! I'll take that. If you're into gardening growing veg they're a perfect companion, fertilizer / pest busters, feed them with the vermi from compost or kitchen scraps or this new method with fly larvae, egg shells grind them and feed them back.. free free free!
How much will all of that set you back, considering all of the inputs, as compared to buying the eggs retail?
No wonder Aldi has no eggs for the normal OZ barginer
Stupid bird flu scare did it, they used to have a whole row of free range 700-800g boxes every day fully stocked. But that was too good for us you see anything that healthy must be taken off the shelves what do they have most of now? Barn laid or caged eggs devoid of nutrition that's where the real profit is $200B+ annual turnover in healthcare that's how you make the serfs pay up.
Hoarding is also a HUGE problem.
My local IGA has been my go to for eggs since the great egg shortage of 2025.
Their own brand free range eggs have been generally available most of the time. $6.70 for 700gram eggs, however the eggs are very large and would pass for 800gram eggs.
Every time I go to Aldi, they have nothing or only the $9 free range eggs available. Haven't seen the regular $6 free range eggs for a few months.
I wouldn’t buy them with only 2 days until expiry. I only eat 2 eggs a day, and try to avoid freezing as much food as possible to maintain ultimate freshness, especially nowadays with meat where many supermarkets and butchers freeze the meat first themselves, so I don’t want to freeze it a second time. The only reason I would buy these short dated eggs is if I was going to make a pavlova tonight or tomorrow.
Jeez i paid 10$ for a dozen in that exact shop a week ago.
forget easter, it’s an adult egg hunt at Ritchies!
out of date eggs are the best as they're preconditioned out of the fridge section. i make slow cook omelettes and fritatas that travel well in work lunch but you need to be close to a toilet afterwards for the odd off omelete.
So Peter Dutton wasn't wrong about egg price?
Peter who?
eggs sell out and can't stay in stock.
now these are short dated?
Your username 👍👏👌
EGGS!
Hey cook us some eggs aye Beth. Oh and some bacon.
Thanks OP! I bought 8 dozen, plus a few other quick sale items. My receipt says I saved over $78!!! (I spent about $27)
Were there lots remaining?
Heaps. Half a pallet yesterday. Sorry for the late reply
My local coles stocked up on some branded eggs, they were $9+ each for dozen and it seems 80% were still in-stock.
They didn't even have their own brand in-stock.
No one wants to pay alot for eggs…. fml
