We are vegetarians and we struggled a bit with identifying the vegetarian food and communicating with the staff. While we were on tour our guide helped with ordering food. Many times we were able to get some dishes customised. However, requesting the same on our own using the translate apps was quite difficult and we gave up a few times.

Our Beijing guide gave us a card with I am vegetarian written in Chinese on the first day. That also helped a lot in communicating at the restaurants.

Also, you will be mostly be eating stir-fries for breakfast lunch and dinner as the options are limited. We took some instant soups, pastas and some snacks with us that helped on some days.

Apart from that in Beijing we found an Indian restaurant with clear vegetarian options and English speaking staff. In couple of other cities we went to pizzahut and customised a pizza to remove meat. The staff spoke decent enough English to understand our needs.

  • Awesome deal. Just wish it wasn't so far away.

do some homework, go and travel on your own,
maybe it costs more, but it gains more…

  • I want to book this!

Compulsory Tipping for driver and tour guide (AU$12 per person/day). This is collected by our tour guide when you arrives in Beijing.

Given the fluctuations in exchange rate, how much is the tipping in yuan that you are expected to pay? And is this collected daily or all at once for the 11 days that you are there?

For me, 4 days paid to the guide in Beijing, the rest is collected by the one in Shanghai. Paid on the last day with them. They both genuinely explained why the tips are collected and all of us are happy to paid. To be honest, our tour guides were super nice so all of us were happy to tip them. I paid with AUD btw.

  • Day 11 Arrive home

So essentially a 10 day trip?

    • More like 9 days as day 1 you arrive at night to essentially just sleep

      • Haha,.. misleading marketing at best!

      • Actually…
Day 1.. Leave Aust. / arrive china- do nothing day
Day…10… Leave China - do nothing day
Day 11… Arrive Australia - do nothing day

So its actually 8 day tour - divide per day $$
Calculate total price - tour, tips, extra food, optional tours, extra private attractions - D/land, Didi or public transport ..etc

Realistically, most things are done for you..
Flights, hotels, attractions are all organised
No stress, just go with the flow

I did one of these cheap tours of Vietnam last year. Yes, there were lots of stops to see 'traditional' crafts and buy trinkets - but even on more expensive tours you have that experience. We were never pressured into buying anything, and even if we bought something the prices were good.
The sightseeing was good, the tour itself was worth much more than we paid.

Like someone said before, if the businesses subsidise the tour then what's the problem with stopping and looking?

    • …what's the problem with stopping and looking?

The time wasted in stopping and looking

  • Any idea how this compares with the Aldi tour?

  • Amazing deal, do these come up often or is it a once a year type of thing?

I want to impulse buy but gf wants to think on it.

August could be a bit hot. Just finished the tour last week myself. I had the choice to roam the city on my own on some days and my tour guide had no issues. I just need to inform them the day before. Some ppl decided to go to Disneyland in Shanghai and our tour guide was willing to accomodate. Anyway, great tour. I only bought a few things from the shops as I wanted them anyway (i am a heavy tea drinker). Some groups however didnt have such nice tour guides like mine from what I heard.

Anyway, as long as you got Alipay set up properly, you can do anything on your own (I used both didi and subway, ordering food/general grocery without any issues). I could even pay our tour guide for some optional tours with alipay so the whole trip I didnt need any cash. (just make sure each transaction is < 200rmb to avoid surcharge to split them if your need to pay more)

They will drive you there for a 7:30am start? 😁

They don’t take Mastercard or Visa?

  • Price is showing $1099 now.

    • Different month
      Different prices

  • Yo what gives I was trying to book this; have they just put the price up? $1099 now Any workarounds?

Knew I'd regret sleeping on it.
