I went for the g75 , but this was the other I was considering. Especially for $298.00 , the cheapest I've seen it for apart from second hand.

    • +6

You missed the $200 deal too.
Mine got refunded because eBays payment processor broke, the jerks.

      Such is life.

      • that $200 deal is what's stopping me from this. I couldn't get it either bc ebay sux.

      • I got one but wanted to buy two.

    • I went for the g75 also, but I kinda wish I went for this one since the g75 camera sucks

      • +4

I'm not too worried about the camera , as long as it's reasonable. Everything else is definitely a plus I think , good processor , good ram , great software longevity. All for well under $250.00 , I'd say that's a win ✅

      • the g75 camera definitely is impressive for the price but doesn't compare to my old xiaomi mi 11i 108mp.

I think I'm happy with it though for now, Tons better than the g54 and it does okay in lowlight situations and a lot better for seeing things in disfance or up close retains most detail in good conditions too

        • Haha I'm comparing mine to my Redmi Note 10 Pro camera so thought by now camera tech on mid range phones would at least be equivalent if not better

          • @montorola: Mhm, I'm wondering about how the camera on the new Poco F7 will be too, seems the megapixel on nee camera is usually 50MP these days

  • +7

Nice phone, I've been using one since December. Some people talk down the cameras, but it beats my previous iPhone 13 for image quality plus it adds a zoom lens. Did some Vivid walks last week with an iPhone13 owner, and the Neo took some way nicer photos.
There's a bunch of post-processing, so night shots come out really well. Videos are a bit less good, because of less processing.

    • How is the battery life? Do you use screen protector?

      • +2

I use a hydrogel screen protector. Glass won't work well with the slight curve at the edges.
Battery has been quite good. It gets comfortably through most days, even with heaps of YouTube etc (I don't game)
It also fast-charges, so a few mins plugged in gives it plenty of juice. So I've basically never felt battery anxiety

        • +1

Doesn't Motorola Edge 50 Neo have a flat screen?

          • +2

@iChopstick: It does, but there is a very slight curve at the very edges of the glass. So a glass protector would need to be cut slightly smaller or it'll show a gap.

It's so small that as I'm looking at it again I can barely tell it's there. Now I'm wondering if I was using a wrong-sized screen protector, but I'm sure others online have talked about this.
But I prefer hydrogel anyway, so this isn't an issue for me.

            • +1

@crentist: I think a lot of flat screen phones still have a slight curve at the edges where this happens,

unless the glass screen protector is sized to be a little smaller all round (I hate that too).

    • How is the battery, only 4310mAh

      • +1

The battery life has to be the best or one of the best due to the MediaTek chipset. 3 to 4 days for light usage, 2 to 3 days medium and 1 to 2 days heavy.

        • +1

are mediatek and dimmensity chips always better battery life than snapdragon ??

      • Better than the number would suggest. I got rid of my iPhone 13mini because of battery anxiety, and have never felt it with this phone.
Lasts quite long, and fast charging is great

      • +2

From my AccuBattery app, based on last 6 sessions: 11h screen on, 6d 11h screen off, Combined use ~30h. I always keep the battery between 20% and 80%. I've had the phone since November. Battery has been excellent for me, but I'm also not a heavy battery user. I also rarely use apps that would suck the battery quickly such as games, watching videos or doomscrolling reels. I also DO NOT use adaptive brightness as I think it's always too high and eating on the battery. I'm generally quite conservative when it comes to brightness, most of the time I'd be at 20/25% full brightness with anti-blue / night light always on. But I work behind a desk and I'm often inside, so I can afford that. When outside it's almost always 100% brightness.

Overall I've found it to be an EXCELLENT phone for the price (I scored it at that price during Black Friday). Very happy with the pictures. My girlfriend has a rather more expensive phone, and she's frustrated that my pictures look systematically better. And yes, night shots are good too!

Edit: good point about fast charging. It's extremely quick with the charger that comes with it.

          Pls share equivalent-screens @ AccuBattery-APP,
          a.Monthly, Charged %
          b.Full-battery-time-estimate
          c.Battery-health

          My Motorola 5000mAh battery Jan-24, https://ibb.co/zVD5xGYJ
Monthly, Charged % is an indicator of your-usage, ie how many equivalent-100% you've charged your phone in a month. The science behind 'but I'm also not a heavy battery user..' Thanks.

          • +3

@ab c: Good thing I'm not claiming to be a scientist man, I was just trying to help by providing some context about my usage and how that may impact battery life. Since you've asked so nicely here you go: a. 690%; b. 10h52min (screen on - 9.2%/h), 7d6h (screen off), 29h42min (combined use); c. 94%.

            • @Sebajun: Thanks champ.

              If you prioritise battery-longevity over convenience, REDUCE fast-charging via 68W wall-charging. Battery-health @ 94% seems high for a 6 mths old phone with LOW-use (Monthly, Charged 690%) & your battery-longevity practice. Maybe monitor & RE-do a Full-charge every 2 mths: <15% to 100%.

68w vs 3W charging: see the differences in temperature & voltage @ AccuBatteryAPP - Charge-status: note the colour turn-red (~45°C temp. & ~4.3 volt), especially during summer charging with HIGHER room temp.
              Source, https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-808-how-to-prolong-…

              MY-use: summer room temp. ~ 25°C @ idle & during-charging, I often see temp 35°C plus. 3W charging via usb-ports @ ~ 0.5A is my MAIN-source of charging & overnight 😱. When I use a 15W wall-charger, I often see 45°C plus with 30°C room temp…just reading OzBargain comments via mobile-data. My Battery-health 91% after 18 mths: heavier-use (Monthly, Charged 900 -1100%) & MORE-conservative battery-longevity practice.

              Although 4310mAh battery IS a weak-link & if I need a NEW-phone, I would buy Moto-Edge-50-Neo😇. Watch HEAVY-users complain that their phone can't last a whole-day use after ~ 18 mths…

@Anyone, feel free to neg…but do share factual-data to support your analysis & experience, eg AccuBattery-APP data😇

A family member bought a one of these on the weekend - they wanted to purchase from JB, who ended up saying they would price match with Domayne (who were offering 10% of gift cards), but ultimately ended up just suggesting they could just adjust for the GC in the price - ended up getting it for $313.20.

My suggestion: ask JB to match, you may end up being able to get one for $298 (although they only have grey)
    YMMV

    • +1

      Perfect for <$300 deduction!

    • +4

JB live chat offered me $340, no gift card

      • For me they offered to simply price match no gift card price. Even when trying to bargain with other items thrown in the mix no dice.

It was the online chat not in-store.

    • +1

      Got it for 298, thanks

  • Do these have the curved side edges - I assume so because of the name? Love the design of the back/cameras and colours of Motorola phones but those edges make them very dated.

    • No

    • They do have a very small curve at the edges. Enough so a glass screen protector doesn't quite sit right. I decided to ditch the protector and just use a cheap ebay gel case. It wraps over the edges just enough so the screen you see and touch is flat. Edges of the case also sit about 2-3mm above the flat of the screen.

  • +5

I got one last year in the deals.

The camera is great. The screen is surprisingly tough, hasn't cracked or scratched yet. Battery is great as I play Pokemon on it. Would recommend.

    • +1

The GSM Arena review said the camera experience was not good. Did you experience the same issues (lag dan inconsistent image quality)?

    • Do u play one instance or multiple instances of PGo?

I’m looking for a suitable android phone for playing 3 accounts if possible. Don’t call me mad. :D

Would love to hear ur experiences if you are using the edge Neo 50 for multiple accounts.

      • Sorry I only use 1 account per phone

  • +7

Fantastic phone for the price (got it for similar last year). Battery life is very good and charges really quickly due to the included 68W charger. Buy a new case, as the included one is terrible (but it's included!). I bought two and both have been very reliable and fine for a mid-tier cost phone. Plus, I love the Motorola features (shake to torch, twist to camera) that are included.
    Highly recommend.

    • +4

      Shake to torch is excellent

  • -6

Pixel 8 above this for similar price any day

  • +5

With the $50 gift card you could almost afford a HDMI cable that's not even 1 metre.

    • +4

Thats kind of the problem isn't it.

WTF do you do with $50 at HN?
I suppose it can help if you're making a new release purchase of something thats fairly standarised in price, like a Switch2 or a game. Maybe a SIM recharge?

      • +1

        Buy another Edge 50 Neo.

        • +1

This is exactly what I did; but it only uses 1, so I still have 1 remaining.

          I'll raid their clearance bin.

      • +1

not much for the phone, considering it comes with everything hahaha
you could buy a spare moto charger with it, or just bank the gift card and save it for a rainy day, 3 years expiry

        • Are you sure about the expiry date? Any promotional gift card I've got from HN has had a one month expiry.

          • @Leiothrix: 1 Month Expiry is only for the 10% Gift Card deals, but even the Windows 11 one we had recently was 36 Month Gift Card, this one is 100% 36 Month.

      • +4

It will buy you a feather so you can tickle Gerry's sensitive areas

    • you can buy laser/belkin HDMI cables from us that is less than half of that

      • Thanks Gerry but I'll never buy a HDMI cable from HN.

        • Who buys HDMI cables anyway, you don’t have a stash from all the TV’s, Gaming Consoles, Monitors that came with one?

  • Best mid range phone by motorola..had it for over 6 months now

  • Would this be a decent buy for the bigger screen and similar specs, it's obviously a Snapdragon so battery is worse than the Neo for the sake of larger screen slightly better processing

    • +1

If you're OK with curved screens like that one, the best value right now is the G85.

      • I did see TGGs have it on clearance ATM but not sure about the camera compared to this Neo deal. Plus you lose the waterproof aspect

        • The Neo camera is better

        • +1

The neo camera is good, but watch some G85 reviews - They're both VERY servicable, and if you're not the type to keep a phone for 5+ years, you'll be better served by a 'pretty good' camera now, and newer tech in 48 months when the next deal comes around.

  • -3

Was tempted until I saw the battery size, yikes.

    • +4

Check the comments above and reviews. It's efficient so battery life is good.

  • I was tempted to replace my Samsung A73 with this but after reading the GSM Arena review and the poor camera experience, I am not sure anymore. Are the cameras really as bad as the review?

    • Looking to replace my wifes phone with this from an A73, she's had nothing but issues with it. Starting with terrible camera quality and lagging issues

  • -4

256 GB with no External card slot seems bit low specs

  • I was lucky to have this $ 200 last December. Its performance is great even compare to Samsung Galaxy A55. I am waiting for further discount for my dad and mum.

  • +6

I similarly grabbed this at the end of last year (black friday?), for the same. i was coming from an iphone8, and it has made a massive difference (even the camera). I am happy with it. (also glad to be away from the fruit). I have been watching for it to come on sale again, and bought one on the weekend for my wife for her birthday. She is coming from iphone x.

Whether something is a good buy or not is subjective. Is it as good as a s25ultra? definitely not. But I don't have the cash for one of those. Similar with the latest iphone, pixel or whatever. Would it be an upgrade from an S24? Probably not. But its not a thousand dollar + phone.

For me its a $700 phone for half price, which means its in my budget, and is better than the usual <$400 options. Heaps better than whatever it is i am using for work (samsung A something). The Neo is responsive, 12gb ram is great, has a nice screen, reasonably intuitive and not a bad size - though it did seem a bit narrow to start with, though easily reachable. I find despite using it far more than my old phone, i go to bed with an average of 70% battery left, and even if it goes flat (has never done) the fast charge means its full again in an hour or so.
Even swapping ecosystems hasn't been an issue, in fact that has been a delight too!

Probably the worst thing is, i am on my phone lots more than i used to be!

  • Got one from last year sales. I still remember there were like 300 ozbargain-ers had given it a shot, not a single complaint, amazing phone for the price.

  • +4

Buy this instead of Iphone and save 1400 bucks for retirement! That's what I do.
Thanks to Motorola to give us nice clean phones for a reasonable price.

  • -3

Pixel 8 Pro would have been a better buy over this, given this phone will lose value far greater than the former.

  • Hello all. Should I buy this phone or a used Samsung Galaxy S22? Thoughts?

    • If you're able to replace the battery yourself then 2nd hand flagships are an option. However it's a bit of a gamble trying to find a good quality aftermarket battery.

I recently did this on my S20 FE. Bought a battery off Aliexpress for approx $18. Got one from high seller with good feedback.

      • Hey thanks for your reply. I was thinking of a refurbished S22 from one of the several used phone sellers. Do you reckon those refurbished phones would have a new battery? To be honest I had not thought of the battery life.

        • If they don't mention it has a new battery then it's highly unlikely.

        • +1

The battery life of the S22 even when new is very low compared to this Motorola. The S22 is a 3.5 year old model so it will only get security updates for 1.5 years.

    • Consider a NEW Samsung-flagsip model $400n ish & need to wait, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909223

Your preferences seems to be Samsung-flagship, most like that you've done homework & settled on it?

  • Replaced my 2018 G6 Plus with the Edge 50 neo 2 weeks ago-very happy!

  • -1

the S23 deal around 2weeks ago is better i reckon

  • For those of you that want to avoid HN for various reasons - I went to 3 different JBs today to try and price match HN with their gift card (so $298) - does not seem to be possible, best JB can do is a consistent $340. Of course YMMV esp. if you're extra charming (unlike me) but just go to HN if you're after this phone I reckon. Hopefully this saves someone a bit of time.

    • -1

      :)

    • +2

Jbhifi wollongong did 298 for me after checking with the manager, told them no sale unless under 300 for the tax reasons

  • Do AliExpress coupons apply to mobile phones after 3G shutdown fiasco?

  • I am still hodling for the ultimate $202.5 moto g75 eofy deal.

  • could I you use the gift card to get the phone down to 298 instead of receiving the 50 dollars GC after the purchase?

    • Nope.

eGift card is not redeemable for cash and cannot be used in the transaction in which it is issued.

  • Available again, extended until 30/6.
