  • Just an FYI: When posting deals for Aliexpress items that are shipped from overseas you'll need to add the item to the cart and then proceed to checkout to see the final price. The 10% GST is hidden until you get to the final step.

  • +16

There's no USB-C ports and power is via DC jack.

    • +1

      ahh thats a dealbreaker.

      • +1

have a search for the Soyo M4 "Pro" if u need usb C. Here is old sale on the model. Sure to be a EOFY deal going :) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/898533

        • +2

Yep, we need a new deal for M4 Pro

        • Yeah, is the PRO model better than PLUS?

          cause it seems to be.

I got '1' of the soyo m4 pro previously and it's really impressed me with how small and quiet it is.

The only other mini pc like device I have is a mini dell optiplex.

          • @AeymothSky: well it must be better - it has the word "pro" in the title :)
Seems a bit better on ports and versions e.g. Wifi 6, power on uSB etc. However I did notice this model has a display port whereas the Pro has dual Hdmi. go figure !

    • +2

usb PD adapter is $2. USB-3 A->C cables work fine.

      https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006796785466.html

      • Grok tells me - 5.5mm outer diameter x 2.5mm inner diameter (5.5x2.5mm barrel connector), 12VDC 2.5A to 4A

        • usb C typically does not supply 12V (9V or 15V being the closest) so using usb c power with this device might kill it.

          • @gizmomelb: Grok3 - 12V can be achieved with USB-C using the USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) specification. If you're using a USB 3.0 port with a USB-C adapter that supports USB-PD, and both the charger and device negotiate PPS (Programmable Power Supply), 12V could be possible. Without USB-PD or PPS, a standard USB 3.0 port cannot deliver 12V. GaN chargers with 65W or higher often have USB-PD ratings - check their specs.

    • Hit the road Jack!

    • +1

just be aware that even if the pc has a usb c port, it may not support power over usb c (or may not support the automatic power leveling / supply voltage) function.

  • +1

This or GMKtec G2 Mini for $112.68 USD?

    • good find. The GMktec has 12gb ram, this one has 16GB. GMltec CPU is listed a 3.4Ghz, this one 3.6Ghz. small differences

      • +7

the big difference is the GMktec has USB-C PD

        • not trying to be smart Jaduqimon, but worth explaining to others why this is a big difference. For instance you want to buy extra a locally approved USB C power adapter over the included one or you want to power an external device over USB C from the PC. The first I get, but the latter could be worked around with a powered USB C hub.

          • +1

@mybrains: saves using a separate wallwart.

If you have it in a rack, you can power multiple devices from a single USB PSU, charge devices etc.

            • +2

@impoze: The problem with powering a mini PC from a single USB power supply that charges multiple devices is that plugging and unplugging other devices will momentarily disconnect power to the mini PC.

            • @impoze: IUSB PC cannot supply different voltages simultaneously, so unless all devices need the same voltage, you're likely to end up killing devices / causing a fire hazard.

          • +1

@mybrains: having USB-C PD means you wont need a dedicated power point/plug just to power this one device. You can use USB-C power hubs as an example: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/882615

Also most modern TVs have USB power so you can run this device and mount it to the back of the TV without running an extra cable for power.

every company, even Apple is shifting to USB-C and most laptops these days support USB-C so it is a huge advantage being able to power the device via USB-C over a proprietary/stand alone power plug.

            • +3

@Jaduqimon: I generally agree that USB-C PD is a big plus, but I haven't heard of any TVs with USB-C PD i.e. outputting more than 5v? Do you have TV examples that can do this?

A word of caution with using multi USB-C PD outputs to power multiple devices is that most chargers will need to renegotiate PD power every time a new device is plugged in - unexpected power loss is not good for a computer without a battery so you need to be careful with it. Here's a good explainer: https://youtu.be/dG2v4FHwJjE

            • @Jaduqimon: Would a TV put out enough power over the USB to actually power the miniPC? I would be pleasantly surprised if it did.

              • @seanfoite: hmm yeh you guys are right. upon searching, only the latest gen TVs and only some support USB-C PD.

I've been mounting these to the back of my monitor which does have USB-C PD. i thought TV these days would be similar to monitors.

                • +1

@Jaduqimon: I would guess a PC monitor it is super common to want to power a laptop using a single cord. TV not so much.

    • @uptightserene: I see 108 aud?

  • +1

These any good for my elderly parents to browse/watch YouTube?

    • +3

N150 is plenty for browsing & YouTube

    • +2

Yes, they are perfect for that.

    • I've been using an n100 mini PC (12GB RAM) for nearly 2 years for daily email, web browsing, 1440p youtube watching and usenet downloads. Never had an issue with it.

  • anyone find a way to remove windows 11 to reduce the price?

    • +9

You are not paying for that Windows 11. Don't be surprised that despite you can re-activate the Windows 11 license if you were to do a full re-install, it is actually not a 100% legit license (Microsoft doesn't seem to care and hasn't closed that loophole yet).

  • +1

Anyone had old weak synology/qnap nas and then use this kind of mini pc to run the docker, plex etc off the nas? I have few questions before buying if someone in the same situation (the mini pc). Thanks….

    • +1

N150 will be fine, where it gets the data from doesn't matter.
      It will transcode using iGPU.

Many use USB DAS or JBOD as their storage pool

    • +1

I run Plex via Proxmox on a similar N100 based Beelink mini PC and it has worked well (no NAS though, just USB connected external drive)

    • +1

have the same question, i have ds220j and was thinking to use this for the same!

    • +5

@McMaferMur no offence but you've been asking same / similar questions for at least the past 6 months now. They're cheap so just make the jump and experiment. That being said I finally got around to installing proxmox on my n150 dual NIC mini PC and it's running Home Assistant (VM) andPiHole (lxc) and still not hitting 5% CPU usage.

    • +1

I have a n100 mini PC running Emby which connects to my Synology ds420j NAS. Works no issues.

    • Yes bought a Asus Nuc pro to offload heavy workloads from Synology Nas. My mini PC is a powerhouse running latest 15th gen Intel CPU and 64GB ram.

  • +3

FYI you can purchase the power adaptor from KMart, only $6

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/eu-travel-adaptor-42564850/

  • +1

    @McMaferMur

Share nas via NFS(Run Linux on nas if it won't do it native)

Run this as esxi host or xcp-ng,

    Point host to NFS/storage…

Create as many VM's as the CPU can handle

  • I have the Soyo M4 Pro. Same specs as this one but adds USB-C and I think dual HDMI.
Good use case for a little server. Mine is just hosting a Jellyfin Server. I did dabble with Linux on it but kept having issues because hardware kept changing depending which room I was using this in, so went back to Win11Pro. Perfectly fine now.

  • Anyone got experience with these can talk to the heat/fan noise when running one 24/7? Got a NUC7 i5 as music server and its hotter and louder than I'd like….

    • +3

I have the Soyo M4 Pro as I mentioned above. I've never heard the fan on this thing and mine runs 24/7 in Darwin (it's hot up here). But take that how you will, I also have industrial deafness so that could also be why.. haha.

      • +1

haha that was going so well until the deafness part! thanks tho, Darwin a good benchmark!

        • +1

I can still hear alright. Industrial deafness just means I can't hear high pitched noises like mosquitoes, and maybe high pitch fans (but if that was going off, so would my wife), and I can't differentiate noises in loud places. My mini PC sits in a quiet room with nothing else - haven't ever heard a peep from it. Aircon is only turned on in there when I'm in there too. Average room temp would be 30-35 depending on time of year, aircon'd down to 24.

    • no experience with this box till its delivered, but a suggestion to look into utilities that monitor CPU temp and adjust fans accordingly. here is an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDPKVKBMQU8

PS these little guys can run hot 24/7 so you may want to consider bolting on a big 120mm Noctura quiet fan on the outside of the case (hacking with a dremel may be needed and much fun lol). Also I read about ppl using a heat temp gun to identify hot spots and slap on heatsinks.
      https://preview.redd.it/this-fixes-the-gmktec-cooling-issues…

      • Yeh thanks, can always get those little AC Infinity fans (or a spin off) that sit on top - with no dremel then needed!

My NUC seems hot even with the fan running loud…

    • +1

The M4 Pro is very quiet.

      • For a bit more $, seems like a no brainer then…. thanks

EDIT - oh actually $60 more. Hmmm

        • I cant find the pro listing. Do you mind sharing the link?

  • +1

I've had a couple of similar boxes over the past year or two (Kamrui, same kinda thing), the fans always crap themselves and start grinding after a few months of being on 24/7 as a jellyfin/game server. Tried cleaning em but the bearings were gone. cheap crappy fans.

Amazon have been very easy with returns. Aliexpress i would expect not so much. Bios did not have adjustable fan curve or anything. Might be okay if you're handy with a screwdriver.

    • +3

AliExpress is a pain for warranty. They will pretend to really want to help you, but the manufacturer / seller would reply with some BS excuse. Mine had faulty RAM (soldered on the board, can't replace) and I provided videos showing crashes and heaps of memory errors. AliExpress Support's final respond was because the memory chips are soldered on, no warranty can be provided (despite I re-iterated due to memory being soldered on, I need the whole board replaced; if the RAM weren't soldered on, I would be happy to buy new RAM modules). BIOS has zero option to adjust the memory frequency.

Another N100 device, fan starts to play up.

      • +1

Yeah too risky to buy from aliexpress for a device as prone to failure as this, amazon often have good sales/coupons on them with 1000x better support

  • +1

Would this Soyo box be suitable for my wife's son?

    • +7

You can probably get more for your wife's son on the black market but broker fee is insane atm.

    • +1

Your wife's son needs Ryzen 9 9950x3d, nVidia RTX 5090, 128GB of RAM, 8TB SSD PC.

  • +1

I just bought this one off amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/N150-Desktop-Computer-Display-Busi…
    There's a $50 off coupon. Has DDR5 ram and 2x 2.5Gbe lan and cpu clocked to 3.6ghz

    • Can you upgrade the ram here? or rather is it upgradable. Want to run multiple dockers and current 16gb laptop is not enough.

      • +1

no. from the web site "This mini desktop computer has built-in 12GB (Single-channel) LPDDR5 RAM " generally I've found that the majority of the mini PCs with DDR5 have the RAM soldered to the motherboard, especially those with 12GB.

    • that unit is quite good too, as discussed in the deal post

If you don't need dual NIC the M4 Pro is a bit cheaper with 16/512

      or the Trigkey 16/512

  • +1

This is way better than an n150 especially in games and $265 is a good price . And 2 year warranty.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/BOSGAME-Windows-PCIe3-0X4-Computer…

    • For $100 more I'd expect it to be

      • +1

I was referring to the post 3 above for 249 with coupon

  • +1

Anyone can recommend a mini PC that is good for Xpenology and is powered by UsB type C??

  • -1

There is no snapdragon elite in this

  • How easy would it be to attach a 3.5" HDD externally to this thing?

    • Via USB?

      • I don't actually know the relative speeds, but I was thinking SATA because I assume USB would be too slow for a media server

    • USB 3.2 would be one way. Looking at the link in heading here - https://funnyu-tistory-com.translate.goog/229?_x_tr_sl=auto&…
there appears - in the exploded view - to be a spot for a 2.5" x 7mm hard disk inside. There is a few 4GB SSDs that size and one 8GB Samsung 870 QVO - MZ-77Q8T0B/AM

    • +1

you could use an NVME to SATA adapter board.. then supply external power to the drives as well. there are loads of 'how to' videos on youtube.

      • Thanks, that's good to know

    • +1

just get a usb external docking station that can house 1 or 2 3.5in HDD as needed and you are good

  • Id like a mini pc to run some logging software for my race car. Anyone have good ideas on how to power one using a 12/15v source? Perhaps the usbc alternative posted by others may be the go?

    • Easier to source 12v to USB C PD plugs

      • I think you can use the your cigarette lighter with a 160W Baseus 160W Car Charger USB Type C
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Baseus%20160W%20Car…
this will give you regulated 12volts (compared to the car battery being 13.8V)

        then add a USB C cable rated at least 36Watts (12V x 3 amps)

and USB C to power plug adapter as outlined by user bargaino above https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006796785466.html
        5.5mm outer diameter x 2.5mm inner diameter (5.5x2.5mm barrel connector), needs 12VDC 2.5A to 4A

I have these all on order so can test in a few weeks. PM me if interested

    • people have been using 12V carputers for well decades now, so I'm sure if you google you'll find a multitude of answers.

  • Would people bring a mini pc with foldable keyboard and portable monitor to oversea trips instead of bringing a heavy laptop?

    • Sure why not.

As long as you can find an outlet to plug into

    • +1

You can buy sub-1KG convertible netbooks for $400~$450 AUD nowadays. Usually powered by N100 or N150 CPU (both of these CPU are basically identical except for a tiny 200mhz speed boost), 12GB RAM and have a 1920 x 1200 touchscreen.

      https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005006966209849.html?spm=a2g….

But if you plan to buy one of these ^ I do have to warn you that their build quality is on the cheaper side and the battery life isn't amazing. Just shy of 5 hours.

  • does anyone else see this on the page
"This product can't be shipped to your address.
    Select another product or address."
and after adding it to cart i get
"This item can't be shipped to the selected region."

    • Yes, get the same

    • looks like they have blocked AU now. I marked as expired.

  • For those who are running Win 11 as a HTPC.
