25% Bonus Qantas Points with Purchase of 15,000-55,000 Top up Points; 50% Bonus with 60,000-150,000 Top up Points @ Qantas

24

Qantas points top up promo running this week:

"Get 25% more points when you purchase 15,000 - 55,000 Top Up points, or 50% more points when you purchase 60,000 - 150,000 Top Up points."

Purchasing points is usually a pretty poor value way of increasing your points balance, however if you are short of points for a classic rewards flight, this might be a good way about it.

Better off buying Qantas wine etc

Nope horrible value. You can literally buy wine and get points with it for cheaper without committing to so many points either (current cheapest is 1.8c pp before accounting for wine vouchers or points club disc).

Not the worst deal possible, points are 1.70 cents each which is going one of your best bets in terms of legitimate points accumulation. ($3999 / 234,323 QFF Points = 1.70 cents per point)

If you can buy and book before the hike its $1842.8 AUD before taxes on a Oneway Business Class ticket from MEL/SYD/BNE to Los Angeles, San Fransisco and to Santiago. Or $5406 AUD for a Business Class RTW Booking.

    • It's $3999 for 225k points isn't it?

      • Not according to what im seeing on my screen

        • Maybe look again…

          It's clearly 150 + 75 = 225 for $3999

As much as I agree how terrible the value of purchasing points is, still I won't compare it to other methods like wine etc.

The idea of top ups isn't to book your whole flights on bought points, it's rather to get an instant top up if you are short on accumulated points.

Wine takes a few days and the closest instant method would be to buy gift cards from woolies.

Yes you are paying 1.7c per point, but if booking business you can still get an instant 3-5c worth out of it.

    • Yes but it can still be the same price to buy wine and then you get the same number of points & alcohol. Granted this only works if you need a certain number but still

After it's delivered, if you need a ticket today you need a ticket today.

Buying Qantas loyalty program points, is like buying $20 in tokens at a carnival, so that you have a chance of winning the $10 toy.

But sure, if you want to spend your money now, so that you can hopefully use those points to score a good deal on something down the line, then go for it.

  • Yeah crap deal for me, I'm 15k points shy of making the points club, so using this promo I'd need to pay $532 to get there. Or just go buy some wine for $450 and I get 25k points.

    Pity I don't drink wine

Edit I could also buy some wine for $390 and get 15k points

    • Just get gift cards

      • Are they not 3 points per dollar? So I'd need to spend $5k on gift cards?

        • Woolies, 10 points per dollar but then you also get gift cards which would be more useful than wine to you

  • No, this would be a very bad way of going about it.

  • Buy Qantas wine. it's better value, and you get free wine effectively.

  • Not worth buying points.. just earn em!
