I know I'm getting old, but the amount of CPU you get for your dollar these days is mind boggling.

    • +27

If only that translated to the gpu market

      • CPUs easier to mass produce.

        • +13

Would be easy for GPUs too if they hadn't started pushing bullshit RT and AI, which also gives developers a chance to cut corners.

          • +4

@smartazz104: Precisely. Don't get me wrong, upscaling and frame gen is cool and I'm using it too, but if all I want is something to play COD, none of those features matter.

GPU are far too expensive for PC's for relatives.

          • +1

@smartazz104: RT and DLSS are both incredible technology, and aren't to blame for developers being lazy or GPU prices being pushed up by all the demand for GPUs from AI companies.

    • It's basically an almost 5 year old cpu, it isn't that surprising.

      • +3

        Wasn't that 5000 series like 3 years ago…

        • +3

X3d chips were 2022, 5000 series however was Nov 2020.

          • @JerraJones: Not sure where you source those, from Techpowerup and Wiki:

            5700X3D Jan 31, 2024
            5700X Apr 4, 2022

The earliest post for 5000 series in OZB cpu deal was date back Oct 2022, so likely there are absolutely no offer/deal between Nov 2020 and Sep 2022 at all.

            • @dlovep: The 5700x is just a reskinned 5800x which released Nov 2020, just with the factory default power and wattage being lower, it will hit the same frequencies if you manually set it to the power of a 5800x.

              • @JerraJones: So it's an extra bargain, we're buying 5700x and given a 5800x, awesome deal mate… XD, have a great day !

    • Yeh, and some of those mini PCs even more so. Recently got one for the missus to use and play a few games on.

7840HS with 32GB and 500GB SSD for a bit over $500. The CPU outperforms my overclocked 5700X and while the 780M isn't anywhere near a dGPU it's not too shabby.

  • +5

    These are great CPUs.

Paired it with my RTX 5090 from the recent deal and an ML240 cooler for a great ITX setup.
More than enough grunt for gaming or productivity. I previously had a 5900X in that machine but it was too much TDP to manage so I downgraded.

    • +2

Is this a troll post? RTX 5090 + ITX + budget CPU is not something you typically find as a combo..

then you start talking about the TDP given either processor is not even in the same realm as the GPU you're running…. this would imply that the ITX case you're using is on the larger side…. Given it can fit a 240 liquid cooler i would be looking at a faster CPU maybe an X3D model to better feed that RTX 5090.

      • +6

No. This setup genuinely works for me.

Why do I need a faster or bigger CPU when my workloads both gaming or AI are GPU bound?
The case is an NR200, which fits it comfortable. The addition of water cooling means the GPU doesn't contend with the CPU for airflow.
I don't see the need to upgrade to AM5 yet either, I've had the motherboard for a few years.

        • If you're gaming on it regularly at anything other than 4K native (e.g., 4K with DLSS), I think you should really consider swapping to an X3D in there for just over $200 given that you've spent >4K on the GPU. Even if you only get 5-10% performance it would still be worth the cost compared to the rest of the system, and the power draw is unlikely to be an issue.

          • @MHLoppy: I'm gaming at 5k native. Disabled DLSS because it's sharper without it. Though I spend at least 50% of the time running LM studio and Comfy UI.

            • @Commodore64: Heh, fair enough then. If you play sim games you'll probably still see enough uplift to justify it but yeah for anything else native 5K would be crazy-taxing on just GPU 😅

        • 5K gaming? yeah all good then :) sorry to assume, don't see it often.

  • +3

Am I kidding myself not grabbing one of these to replace a 3700x paired with a 3080?

    • +1

Depends. Some CPU heavy games will notice a difference, but it won't be enormous. What are you playing and at what resolution?

      • Oh come on. I still sitting on i7-8700k and 1080 TI
I do not see any issues (I do not have 4k monitor tho)

    • +9

I'm always a fan of incremental upgrades if they don't cost very much and your old part still has value.

The 3700x seems to sell on ebay for bare minimum $120, so in your case it's a basically free upgrade give or take the $15-20 ebay fees. A computer upgrade for the price of a ham sandwich? Why not!

    • +1

I did this a while back. Big improvement in modern games. At this price a no brainer

    • -1

For 120 bucks its fine but I'd just get a 5700X3D

      • +2

They're more than double the price, however

      • +1

Yeah, sadly if 5700X3D were still available for the $230 I spent, it would be a no brainer, but they're quite expensive now.

    • +1

      +1 for @wetsandwich comment.
I upgraded from 2700x to 5600 and noticed a HUGE improvement in the 1% lows (not much in the averages), everything looked so much smoother!

      • 2700X to 3700X was already a fairly big difference, though.

    • Easily worth it at this price. Did you manage to get one?

    • I'm also in the same boat, here sitting on my 3700x though I don't see the need to upgrade unless it's at least a 5700x3d. I'd probably benefit more from a 5900x however for workstation productivity

    • Well you're temps and power usage will be much lower :)

For $124.18 its worth it.. but if your planing to upgrade your system in the next year or so its not.

      Some performance info here

  • Can I have the link of the item? Go to deal landing on Ali Express website. Searching also shows nothing similar on that price.

  • +1

    Link is working now. Thanks

  • Any budget matx motherboards you guys recommend for this? Never owned a Ryzen previously but wanting to just build a budget gaming PC for my kid, already have a GTX1070 lying around.

    • +5

AM4 boards have been out of production for a while now, so there's not any big brands that still sell them for cheap. Used to be able to get gigabyte or MSI b550m boards for sub$110.

You currently have 2 choices; go to AliExpress and get a soyo b550m, or one of the many b450m.

Or just get this entry ASRock board and call it a Day

      https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/motherboards/amd-socket-…

    • +1

Best value I found was recently is the MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI Micro ATX. Has built in wifi and Bluetooth and USB type C header as many cases now have a USB type C port.

I got the Jonsbo D32 Pro case

    • There is Lenovo or HP Omen B550 motherboard sold in Aliexpress compatible with generic parts. They are better than Soyo if you are not OC enthusiastist

    • There is a couple of AliExpress, their getting cleared out.

  • +1

Just grabbed one, thanks OP! I'm going to sell my Ryzen 5 5600XT to a mate for $100 to bring this down to a $24 upgrade for my living room Bazzite machine.

    • Love this idea, been thinking along similar lines but with the recent release of SteamOS.

      • +1

This is by far my favourite way to PC game nowadays. COVID pulled me away from my desk and back to consoles, but the Steam Deck showed me there could be a happy medium, and now my setup is the perfect blend of comfort, power and flexibility. For now, I’d recommend Bazzite over SteamOS because of its greater maturity and support, but I'm keeping a close eye on SteamOS for the future.

        • It's all getting pretty exciting I think, given the that being able to move away from Windows is now looking like a real option. I was looking at SteamOS mainly because of the WMR driver coming soon and the ongoing Proton development. Saw a video of performance relative to Windows last week where it was outperforming in nearly every game. I haven't ruled out Bazzite yet at all, they have a driver for VR too, but haven't seen too much about it's compatibility for the games I have.
I think once Sunshine/Moonlight catches on the idea of needing to be in the same room as a PC will change over time.

  • Bought 4. Each cost $118.115. Commonwealth Bank charge Intl Transaction fee. Coles Mastercard and Klarna one time card same rate, no extra charge. Afterpay, ApplePay, PayPal charge same as CB.

    • You don't have a massive home loan with the bank so they give you a credit card without international transaction fee?

      • +2

Coles No Annual Fee Platinum won’t charge any Intl Transaction Fee same as Klarna. I rented and run a small computer shop from home.

  • +3

Thanks, got 1 to upgrade my 1700. Have been eyeing the next upgrade over the past few months

    • +3

That’s a huge upgrade for $124 as long as your motherboard has a compatible BIOS update or you’ve got another board you can use with it. Enjoy!

    • -1

Word of warning that you may have a lot of struggle with BIOS / getting it to boot with the new one since its so many generations difference. Check your board compatibility first to be sure it actually takes this CPU. My old board didn't take a 5700X3D so I then had to upgrade that to another $200 one and even that was hours of bios settings and tearing my hair out to get the system to boot up at all.

      • 400 series minimum to be able to use this CPU! Updating the board is quick and easy.

        • +1

lots of high end X370 from the Zen1 days support Ryzen 5800X3D :).. Its just board partners didn't bother with the lower end products for obvious reasons

    • +2

Thanks for the advice. I did check and I have an Asus Prime X370 Pro which Asus says supports this CPU.
Hopefully it will be a smooth install.

  • +3

Got this last deal a couple weeks back and for anyone who is skeptical, hundred percent worth it. Took 10 days to get to regional Victoria and performance difference from my R5 3600 is huge.

    • Really? What games have you noticed a massive difference in? I have a 3600. The benchmarks I see have it at only a minor upgrade for most games. Maybe it makes sense at low res, very high CPU intensive games.

      • +1

Ive got it paired w a 3060ti and it gave around a 15–25% boost in FPS, depending on the game. Overall, things feel noticeably smoother, less stutter, better 1% lows, and snappier responsiveness across the board. Plus you're future proofing on a budget with 8 cores and higher IPC (instructions per clock), it's better suited for upcoming games and multitasking workloads. Hope that helps!

        • What games?

          • +1

@Spawn Peak: Current COD, GoW, Ghost of Tsu just to name a couple

        • Thanks mate. That does seem a decent boost, but i reckon it makes sense for me to go AM5. Shame the mobos and ram and stuff are so expensive!

  • Thank OP, seems like a decent upgrade for a 3900x while waiting for the 5700x3d to drop in price

Only thing holding me back right now is while I currently game more, I still do some editing

    • +4

I don't think it's going to happen, ship has sailed as production has ceased

    • +6

You will be waiting until you're a fossil for 5700X3D price drops.

5800X3Ds are still transacting for over $500 used. I can't quite believe it myself. People very keen to hang on to their AM4 platforms I guess.

    • +1

I think I knew this, but wasn't ready to accept it

  • Does this come with the stock cooler?

    • No it's the tray version and CPU only.

      • Would I be able to use my current 3600 ccooler with this?

        • Stock 3600 cooler? I wouldn't recommend it. Thermalright Assassin X120 is usually enough and around $25-$30.

        • It's 65w TDP (same as the 3600x) so technically would run safe, but you're probably gonna thermal throttle quicker than any 20-30$ tower cooler.

        • 100% need something substantial… i recommend a 240mm AIO. i grabbed thermalright one recently and it does a great job

        • I'm in the same boat as you. The retail Ryzen 7s ship with a slightly bigger cooler, but technically this version has the same thermal requirements. I'm just going to run my current cooler and keep an eye on the temp. The worst thing that can happen is it throttles speed if the temp gets to 95°

  • +3

For me going from a 5600X to a 5700X is marginal and it's really why I've been chasing the 3D cache model. My issue has always been the price-performance ratio and so I continue to sit twiddling my thumbs 😂

  • When I access the link at work, it is $99.65 USD, and $106. 65 USD on my mobile. This is before adding to cart. Is there something else I need to do to get the $77.69 USD price? I don't usually have any issues with AliExpress prices.

    • I reckon we've missed the deal unforch

      • +1

It's back on. Just got it for $118.57 AUD delivered.

        • +1

Hell yeah, ordered. It'll keep my old PC kicking on for a bit longer.

  • showing USD 95

  • Sad

  • 5700x with a 4070 super is the best low power system ideal for hot or ITX applecations.

  • +1

Its back on and got it for $74.24 usd

    • Thanks for the heads up!
I got it for 77.69 USD (118.57 AUD).

  • I'm torn on whether it's worth upgrading from a 5600x, too bad the 5700x3D and 5800x3D are no longer in production

    • Not for gaming… but for productivity yes. I use Daw and extra core helps

  • worth it from a 3600? GPU is a 7700xt and I just game nothing on 1440p. Unsure if I should just save money for am5

    • I think 5700x is the sweet spot for this gpu. X3d would be better but for the price i would get this. Core plus ipc gains.

  • +1

    Just thought I would add;
I grabbed one of these to replace my 3600 in the last deal.
Amazing, instant increase fps in most games I play. So much smoother.
I pair it with a 3060 ti I got second hand and it’s a beast of a pc now.
I’m also using the standard wraith stealth cooler and temps haven’t gone above 90.
Might upgrade the cooler when summer comes around.

  • Noooo, it looks like the deal has ended.

  • Not seeing the 77.69 USD, just me?

    • Looks like it is expired again

    • It's showing $104AUD for me now, + $12 off coupon

      • Expired again? Don’t see it

  • Back in stock again. Came out as AUD $116.26

  • We so back
