I have a TCL c855, which is the previous model. Fantastic TV for the price and this one is better.

Just be aware that to update firmware you need to join a telegram group and download to a USB, although this TV being newer it might have improved.

I highly recommend updating the firmware as it significantly improved my tv.

    • Thanks for sharing. Where were the significant improvements? I've only recently unboxed my 75C855 and I can't imagine it being any better.

The UI changes were a big improvement.

The image quality improved and the motion handling.

        • That's great. You've got me really excited now. TV is jaw droppingly beautiful as it is.

      • I have this exact tv. Latest firmware finally sorted out true hd earc passthrough. That was huge for me. There are also apparently improvements in picture performance but I’ve not really noticed. I’ve no idea why tcl doesn’t push out the updates officially.

      +1 for Telegram comment

Needing Telegram is a bit ridiculous. So the firmware isn't on the website?

    • Do you notice any vertical line DSE on bright fast moving scenes like panning across skies?

    • I have the c855 but only use the factory ota firmware. Whats the difference between this and the progressive releases out of interest. Thinking of going down this path.

    • I've had the C7K 75 for over a month and it's pushed at least one auto firmware update in that time. Would be surprised if the higher model was needing Telegram.

      • Latest firmware on telegram was released June 12th, v531.

Might be different for the new series, but the c855 was their equivalent before the c8k was released.

How's this QD mini LED compared to OLED?

    • +4

      It's different

    • +3

Few thousand dimming zone vs 8 million.

      • +1

But mini LED brighter. That said, my new C5 is too bright, feels like it's burning into my retinas, but I refuse to turn it down below 80 😎

    • +7

Mini LED is better value for money i believe.

      • +8

An OLED may cost twice as much but to my eyes it's over twice as good. Others don't see it the same way.

If you've never owned an OLED TV I'd be comfortable recommending a good Mini-LED. If you're a current OLED owner I would not.

        • It really depends. I originally have LG C1 oled 55 inch in the home threate room and this year bought a 98 inch TCL C755 for the living room. If you are after decent quality for bigger size then this C8K would be a good purchase.

None of big size oled are within the affordable realm. Maybe the 77” C5 can be a contender but if you want to go bigger on oled tv then you have to pay up big dollars.

I have LG 55” C1 OLED in my bedroom and just had the new 85” C8K from last jbhifi deal installed in my living room. My living room is pretty bright and the image of the C8K is pretty close to the C1 OLED (To my eyes anyway)

I’d recommend QD-Mini if your viewing environment bright. I’ve got blackout blinds in the bedroom so the OLED colours/blacks really stands out.

Either way, if I could pick, I’d go with the C8K and save some money.

    • I have a Samsung 2022 model Mini LED, and my in-laws have a LG OLED (I know neither are TCL but there is a point to my post!)

I find my TV is great in the day, and for content that completely fills the screen but at night the limitations are noticeable if you know what you are looking for.

The one limitation that really drives me crazy are letterboxing bars above and below a movie. The dimming zones become really noticeable if the movie content is very bright, as it leaks over to black bars and makes the display look a lot cheaper, and it is very distracting especially in active scenes. Perhaps the number of dimming zones on this Mini LED are much better aligned with these bars, but it is still something worth considering if you are a movie fan.

Did a double take when looking at that profile pic :|

    • +1

I had to zoom in, just to be sure

  • Excellent price on the 98". I bought one over the 83" OLED and no regrets

  • C7K or C8K? Someone help me decide

    • I would go C8K for $300 more for the 75".. That's my opinion.

    • Been looking at both as well. Not a lot of reviews for either. But seems the C7K is considered the better value overall.
Reviews seem to say Images similar, but c8k brighter , 1 review mentioned more blooming on c8k but may have be more noticeable due to extra brightness.
C8K should have better viewing angles, both models very bright so they deal well with light, but both models suffer screen reflection from direct light sources, such as windows, lamps etc.
C8K sound is beefier and overall looks more premium, better stand and thinner bezels.
However Im not sure how comparable TCL regional models are , so i’ll be trying to compare in store.

  • Good guys offered $2280 plus $59 delivery.
Anyone know if this will be much better than the Sony 65" X9000H I have picture wise.

    • +1

Yes 1000%! That’s what I upgraded from too.

      • Is glare better on the TCL v the Sony?

    • My current 75" x9500H continues to perform admirably, and I am generally satisfied with its performance. The primary concern remains the issue of glare. While the picture quality is exceptional, I am curious about the potential superiority of the TCL's picture quality compared to my x9500H.

      • Yep mine is going great too, 5 years old, hence not pulling the trigger on a TCL. I have sliding doors behind lounges I can close so glare does become a non issue.

Just bear in mind, they are facing multiple lawsuits for using 'fake' QD. so I guess you get what you pay for

Great TV – bright with excellent picture and sound. Picked up the 85” a week and a half ago for $3,282 from JB after 15% Perks and 5% gift card discounts.

  • Can anyone confirm what version of Android TV this runs?

    • Android 12. Unboxed last week. There was a software update.

      • Thanks, keen to try playstation remote play which requires android tv v12 or newer.

  • We're looking at buying a 65" or 75" soon — Can someone confirm which remote it has? is it the black backlit one (like the C7K?) or the newer silver backlit one? Cheers

    • 65” c8k is not backlit as far as I know, don’t know about the 75”.

  • Price matched at JB with $59 delivery

  • $2236 at jbhifi for me

  • great price. paid something similar for the 75 c7k a month or two ago

  • JB dropped their prices today, slightly cheaper there now. $2236 + delivery for 75"

  • Price matched at JB for $2215 + $59 delivery.
