Def, Def to the idf is a catchy chant though….

Most of ozbargain probably only watch mainstream media, as every time a political post comes up on ozbargain, it always has heavily left leaning support.

I don't expect people to understand the full history of the land going back thousands of years, if the mainstream media doesn't teach them. And most people aren't interested much in history, to seek out information on what they may think they may be not knowledgeable about.

Yes, what Israel is currently doing is wrong.

Yes, what Hamas did on Oct 7 was wrong.

Which is why neither side is the 'good' side imho.

But the fact is, most people pick a side, and only listen to one side's information (which is sometimes pure propaganda).

Without an open mind, you end up with tribal warfare, with little regard for facts or truth.

So this is for everyone who is on purely one side or the other.

Who gobbles up one's sides media, or the other.

Or who isn't even aware that they are only getting information that is one sided.

You don't know everything about this conflict, and never will know everything, even if you read up on it, and watch as much about it, you probably shouldn't 'pick a side' given it's now just two tribal groups going at it tit for tat.

I'm not going to get into specifics. The amount of information you have to digest to get to a good enough understanding to where you see both sides as being bad now, is well, time consuming.

Look at it this way. There were people on the land before the Jews arrived. Did they colonise the land then? Did they do it via conquest?

There were people on the land before Islam spread into the region. Did they colonise the land then? Did they do it via conquest?

When the Jews came back after WWII, were they recolonising a stolen land, that was stolen from them at one point, that they had already stole in the first place?…

These are the fundamental building blocks to realise that we will never truly know everything about this conflict. Do we have all the info required to fully answer these questions, with zero doubt?

Their war will go for another millennia… Just let them go at it. We all know how it sadly ends… They won't stop, so why bother 'picking a side'.

    • +20

Could you be more of an annoying centrist
"Both sides bad, ignore all the flattened buildings and the dead and starving children and the massacres of hungry civilians and the insane power imbalance"

      • -3

Yes, Israel is bad for the above you mentioned.

Is Hamas bad for still having hostages since Oct 7?

        "But Hamas isn't the people?".

        You are correct.

But most of them voted for Hamas, and support Hamas. And while that certainly does not mean that they should be targeted by Israel, it's a well known fact that if you speak against Hamas in Gaza, and it gets to alternative media, your as good as dead once Hamas finds you.

So, are the Palestinians themselves effectively hostages to Hamas then? Very probably yes.

Could it be said that Israel (and Egypt) and now holding Gaza as hostages by blockade? Yes.

How do you remove Hamas from Gaza? How does Israel get the Oct 7 hostages back? Would the Gaza people be ok with having Hamas removed? Should Israel just stop their bombing, leave the Oct 7 hostages die, and go back to waiting for the next incursion?

I could go on and on.

The fact is, neither side is 'good' or 'right'.

And a good proportion of the population of both Israel and Gaza are fundamentalists, and support exactly what they are and have been doing to each other.

The innocents on both sides that are harmed/killed will always and forever be the shame of war.

I am only on the side of those innocents that want out of their war. The ones that still want war, which ever side they are on, nope.

        • +15

It's giving me "both sides" and "I'm not political"…

As an atheist who do not believe any mythical bullshit when it comes to "rights / chosen people' over someone because a book says so. This is text book genocide, it's not hard to go out of your way from mainstream media to do your own research to see there's no both sides are as bad.

One is an illegal occupied force (backed by western countries) made up of white Europeans. Who is committing genocide to people who been on that land (regardless of religion) for thousands of years.

Comments like this proves we have learnt nothing from our past history, and we wonder why previous holocausts / genocides happen and people do nothing…

          • +1

@HereYeeHereYee: The fact you think all or even most Israelis are white Europeans alone indicates you know nothing about Israel. Most are from Middle Eastern countries including the Jews.

            • +1

@dumdum2: never said 'most', i said it is made up of white Europeans, which is true.. Most prominent Israelis including the vast majority of the political elite are Ashkenazi….

      • He's not wrong though. They are all ultra religious, backwards nut jobs who put their religion first instead of humanity.

  • +24

Zionism is cancer on this planet.

    • +12

      That's offensive to cancer.

    • -1

      Really? What is Zionism?

      • +4

A radical movement that incorporates racism against Arabs, be it Muslim, Christian and even Jewish Arabs and openly calls for genocide.

        You know Nazism 2.0.

You must live under a rock. Not any rock, but Uluru.

    • +1

      Don't be an anti-cancerite!

  • +18

Israel was founded on stolen land and an ideology of supremacy. It's a sick society, which is clearly depicted in this documentary.

    Thanks for sharing.

    • You mean Australia
Stop projecting your self hatred on other countries, mate

  • I got logged out of my iView account at 1:09 mark, weird.

  • -8

Ahahahahahaha WTF !!! 500+ comments, read nothing.

If you want to help either side, suit up boys. Show your bravery over there not here. Y’all scared in real life for sure.

    • +9

Maybe the dumbest comment in this thread which is saying something.

"If you want to stand up for something the only way is to go join a foreign army on the other side of the world".

      • +5

        Yep, these people exist.

  • The Bible verse about having faith like children is found in Matthew 18:3. It states,
"Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven".
Why? because children are easier to trick/deceive, they have no real life experience and or read about history and Wikipedia
    Jesus another professional scammer…
a lot of people love living in fantasy world, that's why we have video games ;))

  • -2

This is an appalling display of commentary.

@OzBargain should be ashamed of the toxic discourse fostered by its community and even more so of the moderators enabling it.

The sheer volume of misinformation and mindless hatred here is something I refuse to associate with. As someone who has (likely) been the only member to have visited both Palestine and Israel, I urge you all to step away from the echo chamber. Educate yourselves with factual sources - not social media propaganda from either side of this conflict.

    • +9

What's appalling? Be specific about what you disagree with.

Israel is a genocidal state. GTFO with your both sides rubbish.

    • +8

How do you explain palestinians being kicked out of their houses they've owned for generations to some guy from boston who flew in and decided he wanted it?

    • This isn't OzNonsense.

    • Nice paragraph of saying nothing.

"you're all wrong, but I won't tell you why'

    • +3

Here's some education for you: Israel is a garbage country that's only loved by garbage people. It was founded on ethnic cleansing, apartheid and settler-colonialism. Its flag is a symbol of white supremacy.

    • -1

did you negative vote because you don't like the comments, or because this exposing documentary is free for everyone to watch?

      • -1

Ah, a second viewing confirmed my initial diagnosis: this piece wasn't reporting, it was fan fiction.

But hey, rather than dedicating your energy to trolling, you could always dedicate it to, say, a alternate sources or time on the ground?

My pro-bono advice (a real OzBargain) for your personal growth is on the house.

        • -1

My advice is to get to your opthalmologist and/or neurologist asap and report ongoing symptoms of tunnel vision and a closed mind.

          • -1

@Igaf: I'm in peak condition, thank you.

Speaking of journeys, I hear Australian passport processing is down to 4-5 weeks. You should apply, although perhaps book a one-way ticket.

Once you’ve experienced it (which I have, both as a tourist and a volunteer), I’d be genuinely curious to hear your verdict on who the real cavemen and evil doers are.

All the best on your travels.

            • -1

@JamesBingo: Self-diagnosis is rarely ever right, and in your case you'll almost certainly fit squarely in with the statistical majority. Read my comments here kiddie, they'll put some fire in your complacent belly, if nothing else. They may even put a tiny bit of doubt in your closed - yet ironically very assured - mind. Ignorance and certainty are common bedfellows. But before you do that try exercising a few of those unused and misfiring neurons and do some background reading about the long history of the conflict, who scuttled the peace accord decades ago, who was responsible for giving Hamas "legitimacy" (in some perverse minds), the laws about occupation and starvation, and if you really want to get to the crux of the problem - the "religious" claims and counter-claims to "holy lands".

Excusing the inhumane actions of your heroes and the intentional/culpably irresponsible murder of aid workers, reporters and innocent civilians because a bunch of terrorists murdered and kidnapped innocent Israelis is puerile garbage. Not unsurprisingly it often goes with the territory and you're apparently no exception.

  • +17

Pretty obvious that this is a popular deal. Seems the general Aussie public understand that Isreal are committing a genocide. Iam glad.

  • Does anyone know what happened to the downvotes? Last night this post had 6 negs and now none.
I am pro palestine in this matter, but at the same time i thought we lived in a democracy where everyone has their right to have an opinion, doesn't matter if we agree with it or not.

    • +2

I think it's because when you downvote, you need to comment and give a reason. If your reason is not valid, the downvote is revoked.

For example, if someone was giving away free easter eggs, and people said, the chocolate taste average and it's only an easter egg, it doesn't take away from the fact that it is a free offer / deal that people would be interested in, so the downvote can get revoked.

    • +4

OzB has rules for downvoting. They were removed for invalid negative votes.

      • +1

        Thanks. That makes sense.

    • +4

If enough people neg a vote it is removed too.

  • +1

Only a culture war post could have 370+ comments with only 600 clickthroughs. I'd be surprised if 20% of the people with strong opinions have even watched it.

  • Why this is a deal ?

    • +9

Because buying it on any digital service here in AUS is near impossible without VPN wizardry, and for limited time, it's freely available. So if you want to watch it, then watch for FREE while you can, or try to buy it later if you somehow can.

    • +1

Iraelis love free stuff, so does ozb.
      Next question

      • Ah, the classic, Jews love free things trope.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post this.

        • -1

Says one of the Masters of Usury, how's the Rothschilds clan doing enjoying their $$ trillions for doing absolutely FA.

          • -1

@No Client List: Ah yes, nothing like recycling 200-year-old antisemitic nonsense. Well done!

BTW, I'm sure they're enjoying their money, just too bad your jealously doesn't gain you any interest!

            • +1

              @Bugs Bunny:

              recycling 200-year-old antisemitic nonsense

So you've not heard of the Bank for International Settlements and its web of ownership then.
And now it's antisemitic to know the truth.

  • +10

This is the watered down version of what's happening. Watch "Occupied" on Rumble. It's free and eye opening.

    • +2

thanks for sharing, will watch when i get a chance

  • -1

Facts don't matter in this world anymore. It's opinion sadly.

  • -1

I don't understand (genuinely) the attention given to this conflict. In terms of casualty, there are currently worse ones in Africa, in South East Asia, in Europe, in other parts of middle east. I don't see they got the same, or even closer level of attention.

    • +1

      Where in SEA?

      • coming soon. once the US move all their chess pieces into place. Its the only place outside of North America that has not seen war which is bad for hegemony.

      • Myanmar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myanmar_civil_war_(2021%E2%80%93present)

    • +9

Because Israel pretends to be a democracy with the support of US and most if not all European countries but what they are doing is appalling and unimaginable.

    • -3

It's because people have an obsession with Jews and try to find any excuse to legitimise their hatred towards Jews.

      • +11

Nice try - you and I both know that's not why. It's because unlike the other conflicts, our governments are directly complicit in funding and enabling Zionist terrorism for over 70 horrific years.

But please keep crying about how standing against genocide and 70 years of Zionist violence and apartheid somehow makes you Antisemitic, like you have been throughout this thread - I'm sure you're changing many minds. Zionism deserves the same disdain as Nazism - both are violent, racist, genocidal and apartheid movements.

        • -1

The only thing you and I both know is that you are weighing in on a conflict and region you clearly know nothing about!
Racist? Apartheid? Give me a break! Maybe do a bit of proper research or even better, visit Israel and let me know how they're even close to the labels you are simply regurgitating from social media!

How is this a "deal"? -> Just a piece of clickbait. Get back to posting deals, not political BS

  • +12

Trump's son-in-law Jarrod Kushner has doubled his private equity investment in an Israeli financial firm that supports the illegal 'Settlers' expansion in the West Bank & East Jerusalem

The tragic irony is Kushner's firm is heavily financed by the Saudis

    how is this a bargain?

  • +1

I think most people can agree that being "ultra" or "extreme" politically generally makes you unappealing to most people almost all of the time, there's almost no doctrine that can't go TOO far.

  • +11

In local news, so positive to see Khaled Sabsabi reinstated for the Venice Biennale after Creative Australia panicked and dropped him after a barrage of complaints from the pro-Israel lobby, in the same way they targeted Lattouf. Good to see Australian citizens, if not our cowardly governments and institutions, standing firm against these hateful interventions in our local society.

  • +14

This is a devastating documentary. It shows the true mindset of Israelis. After what happened in world war 2 they're doing the same to another race. Appalling people.

    • -4

I don't think speaking in broad brushstrokes about an entire nationality is beneficial for discourse. Your comment reeks of anti-Semitism, I assume that is intentional.

      • +6

What is your victim card number? I'll send you some money to make your feelings hurt less.

        • -1

Do you think I'm Jewish or Israeli? Lol, you can check my other comments on this post. Why would my feelings be hurt?

I prefer to criticise the Israeli government in a way such that people can't instantly dismiss me as an anti-Semite. It avoids the immature discourse similar to your own comment.

      • Why can't people be antisemitic anyway if they want to be?

        • Go for it, and be prepared for people to call you out for being a f-wit

      • +1

Yep, ignore the footage of Israeli soldiers laughing whilst shooting starving kids seeking food. Trot out the usual anti-Semetism comments against anyone stating facts regarding the horrors occurring. You truly are the monster in this scenario.

        • "It shows the true mindset of Israelis" is not stating facts. That's speaking broadly about an entire nation and assuming every single person of that nation thinks the same way. Does we as Australians have one hivemind? No? Why would you think the Israelis do? It's just an immature way of thinking. Remember, there are many Arab Israelis…

You can check my other comments on this post. I believe in the Palestinian state and what Netanyahu and the Israeli government/IDF is doing is disgusting. The fact that such a large number of Israelis support those actions is terrible.

Calling me a monster for asking you to stop stereotyping, lol. Is it that hard to consider your words before you type?

    • +2

If you want really devastating go and watch "Occupied" on Rumble.

    • +1

Watching a Louis Theroux documentary piece on settlers and linking that to the 'true mindset of Israelis' is like watching him speak to members of the Westboro Baptist Church and linking that to the 'true mindset of Christians'…

      • +1

If you stick to what the Bible actually says about homosexuality, etc you'll find the Westboro Baptists are conscientious Christians, not like the adulterated, corrupted churches that most of the rest have become.

        • If you stick to ancient scripture (from any religion), you'll probably find yourself with values that align with the middle ages….
