Refund of US$452 (~A$686) for Eligible In-Warranty Pixel 6a @ Google

2380

A repeat of smudger's epic deal here, but for Pixel 6a.

Google are being evasive about who's eligible but you can check here. I was offered a US$452 refund. People will get different offers depending on if they're in/out of warranty.

Getting the refund involves the same process of creating a Payoneer account and waiting a couple of weeks.

Battery replacement capability (instead of providing a refund) is expected in Australia soon. Individual end users will have one year from the initial software release on July 8, 2025 to register and make a choice of one of the support options, which may vary by country of purchase, location, and warranty status. After July 8, 2026, these support options will no longer be available.

        • I checked and ineligible :(

    • Should be 2 years for AU stock.

      • I must have just scrapped in.

        • +1

Same here, mine expires in September.

  • Ineligible here and battery is garbage have to charge it more than once a day. I work in a prison so often don't charge it twice a day because it is off mon to Friday 9-430 wonder if that has done me in.

  • Aug/2023 from play store and was eligible. Strange how some people aren't…

  • do you have to return the phone?

  • Aug 2022 purchase from JB Hi-Fi - eligible for $100. checked the eligibility, filled in request - what now? I can't see any email or confirmation that anything happened. definitely went through somewhere as I can't go through the same process with this IMEI again

  • Eligible August 2023 from JBHifi

BTW you can still get $300(+$100 google credit) off your Pixel 9a
    https://store.google.com/product/pixel_9a?hl=en-GB&pli=1

Edit: I wonder if you can double dip on refund and trade in?

    • The fine print on trade in says something about “battery condition” which might make then$300 unattainable when the vendor uses the “battery has known issues” angle

  • +2

I just get "The IMEI () you entered is not eligible for a repair at no cost to you, cash payment, or Google Store hardware discount credit under the Pixel 6a Battery Performance Program.". I have a month left on my warranty (2023-08-28 start date).

    • I'm also not eligible with 6 months left on my warranty.

No Idea how they are working out the eligibility.

      • I believe it's from their record on when the phone is shipped from their warehouse.

        you can check it here

Your battery might be from the non affected part number.

        • +1

Yes, I went on Google chat and they advised that not all phones are impacted.

I guess this is the one occassion where you are unlucky to get a phone from the "good batch".

          • @crazyperpman: It does say that on the Google Support Page

            https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/16340779

“ All Pixel 6a devices will receive a mandatory automatic software update to Android 16, with roll out starting July 8 2025, but only Impacted Devices will receive the battery management features.”
“ We want our customers to have the best possible experience with their products, so users of these Impacted Devices are eligible for support options”

    • then goto the place you bought it from to claim the warranty

    • I think they have a record on the FIRST connected date based on the IMEI number (same as iPhone). Can your phone be used by someone else BEFORE you take pocession of it?

  • My friend did this for his Pixel 4a, got the whole price refunded and used towards a new Pixel!

  • How long does it usually take for the discount code to come through?

  • Bought my 6A in August 2023 but was only offered $100USD?

    • apparently I only had a 12 month warranty

    • Lucky you

  • +1

US$100 for my 6a bought at JB Hi-fi in Oct 2022. Payoneer states a 2% conversion fee for USD to AUD. My Payoneer account was approved in 3 minutes.

  • +1

Anyone else getting "The IMEI you entered is not for a Pixel device."

    running grapheneos

  • Wow. It's luck of the draw on what you get back from Google.

    • Not really, just depends on whether your phone is in warranty or not.

      • +2

Mine is in warranty. Not eligible.

  • $672 for me, just got it in my CBA account. Went through the whole process around 9am today. Then tonight I'm sending the phone as $300 trade in for a Pixel 9a which just arrived today as well. Got a free phone essentially plus a little bit of profit if you consider the Google Credit from the 9a promotion.

    • Hmmm, still waiting for the Payoneer account to be verified at the moment. Been like that for a few hours…..sigh

      • Mine is still being investigated I think because it's still got a case ID. I assume I don't have to set up a Payoneer account until they've approved it?

My phone isn't currently linked to my google account, so I'm guessing that's the delay. The screen is broken, so I can't turn it on and link it. I have a feeling it's going to be at least a 2 week wait for me. It was previously linked, so I assume they will be able to see that.

    • Did you receive any acknowledgement email from Google? I submitted my case just a while back.

      • Just from Payoneer

        • +1

Do the google verification on your phone again. It should verify your phone and your Payoneer account.
Seems many of us had to redo it after the Payoneer account was setup.

  • Anyone else getting case in progress?

    • How to check the status?

      • +1

Scroll to the bottom of the support page for the program

        • It shows as "in progress," and I’ve received a few emails confirming that they are working on it.

  • I got the full refund - handy as this was just a backup phone. Looked at the trade-in option but concerned that it'll impact the refund - I'll wait until the refund goes through and see what trade-in options are around then.

    • How it take it it take when you submit the case?

      • I mean I was able to apply for the full refund. My case is in progress now (shows at the bottom of the registration screen).

  • Got US$100 payout for a device I traded in on the Pixel 9a here.
Good thing I still had the IMEI…

    • Let's see if they require proof at some point. Saw that they might require proof of purchase based on the terms. Could be interesting.

      • "Your request to get payments from Google LLC is approved!"

        I dont think so

  • +1

$255 store credit ($150 USD) + $300 trade in towards pixel 9A + $100 Store credit with purchase + $59.40 store credit (Google One subscriber ) ( spent $3.49/month to get the 10% store back credit )

    • The $150usd store credit is definitely stackable with the $300 trade in?

      • +2

Yep, no issues. I did two phones on two separate orders.

The $300 trade will expire today though. (04/07/2025).

    • How long did it take for the store credit to arrive for you?

  • Did you guys need id to set up Payoneer?

    • No

  • PSA: the "Payoneer" service Google are using for this charges an annual account fee after 12 months. Make sure you close after you receive the payment!

    https://payoneer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/43738/…

    • Thanks, I just closed mine.

  • I opted for $100 option, provided details but was given a case ID instead, not immediate processing via Payoneer?

Your case ID is xxxxx. A member of our support team will get back to you within 3 weeks.
After you register through Payoneer, if your cash payment is approved, then you will receive a ACH payment within 10-18 days.

    • Have you heard anything yet? It's weird how some of us were eligible for the $100 option, but then got given a case ID.

I just noticed that my case ID page updated to "In Progress Last updated 31 min. ago" when before it said "In Progress Last updated 23 hours ago", so I assume somebody is actually looking at it now?

      • Nope, just got an e-mail today:

"We are writing to inform you that your case is currently under review. Our specialist team is carefully examining the details to ensure we provide you with the most accurate and helpful resolution. We will get back to you as soon as possible."

Where do you get to see your case ID page? When refreshed mine goes back to the first page and needing to restart again.

  • Getting "The IMEI you entered is not for a Pixel device." - IMEI checkers online recognise it as a Pixel 6a but google doesn't? wtf

  • +1

What sort of trash is Google making? I was thinking of buying one of these to degoogle but if people are having this many problems with them i think I'll give them a miss.

    • Haven't noticed any actual issues with mine (about 2yrs 3mths old) but it was eligible for the partial refund

  • -1

I had to return a Pixel 8 with a known manufacturing defect with the screen. The 7 apparently had the same issue and so do the 9s.

I would not recommend buying a Pixel device.

Got offered $100USD cash or $150USD google credit

Took the $150USD google credit. The $150USD credit is equivalent to $255AUD

    $849AUD - $255AUD = $594AUD

Then with the $300 trade in = $294AUD

$100 credit promotion for google store
Am also a google one member that gets 10% back, so $59.40 (10% back is on price less discount)
Total google store credit = $159.40

    • How long did it take to get Google credit? The next screen said a review can take 3 weeks! Was hoping to take advantage for the 9a deal that ends today.

      • +1

        SO am i.
I got the same information from the next screen

      • I put it in yesterday and they have emailed me today.

They haven't not said anything useful, just an acknowledgement from someone saying they are working on it.

      • Few hours later I got the email with the code which I successfully applied in Google store

  • i got $100 for mine which, for a phone i paid $499 for and don't use (its been sitting in a drawer) i'm happy with

  • My phone is affected, just Contacted Google support.

My phone was purchased May 2024 through Kogan. They have said because it is an American version of the phone it only had 1year warranty, and will only receive the offered $100USD/$150USDcredit, and there is no battery repair available. They have suggested I talk to Kogan. Watching to see what happens to other people.

Additional battery replacement capability is expected in Japan, France, some other parts of Europe and Australia soon.

You have until July 2026 to make a choice so could be an idea to wait for a bit if you want a replacement battery.

  • Stupid question… how do you get the money out of payoneer? Does it just transfer automatically? I have US $452 as pending…

    • Yeah it asked me to link my bank account during signup, when Google sent the money payoneer set it as processing then my bank received it a couple days later.
Close your account after that to avoid the US$30 payoneer fee that kicks in end of 1 year

  • tempted to go 150 store credit. Does anyone know how long it takes for the credit email to come through?

    • Took about 2 hours for me.

  • Mine is not eligble according to the site. Bought from google store aug 2023 (ozb deal). 1 month warranty left… Ill keep checking.
Mine has always had random restarts and even worse freezes during camera use at times. Has been a bit frustrating as I bought it just before a big family holiday to be able to take better pictures than my previous phone could.
I only recently replaced it with the moto G75 from the recent $230 ozb deal. The G75 is a better phone is most if not all aspects.

    • So strange. I bought from the same deal and got the full amount.

  • For those who think their phone is in warranty but getting denied, goto the actual warranty checker on google. They base the waranry info on the manufacturing date. Ecen if you bought from the same "deal" you could have gotten an earlier batch.

Yes on paper your warranty should be the same and starts on the purchase date but in googles database its not. So just check on the warranty checker site.

  • Another ineligible August 2023 purchase from the google store here. Disappointing!
