        • it's interesting isn't it.. in my suburb all the chinese cars are driven by non-asians and all the asians either drive beat up camries or shiny GLEs / X5s!

          • @V2L: Oh mind you most Asian families here have luxury European cars, that definitely out numbers the Chinese cars which are mostly BYD's.. The number of BYD's is growing quickly though so not a surprise that they have over taken Kia to go into the top 5 hehehe

Are you living under a rock.

      • +4

        Or living under Centrelink

    • +3

It's not that Chinese consumers are avoiding Chinese cars; it's more about their mindset regarding value. If their cousin in China bought the exact same car for 40% less, they're likely to feel they're overpaying. This often leads them to choose a vehicle with a comparable price point in the Australian market, like a Tesla.

      • That's why we have Argentina/India/Turkey YouT Premium specials.

    • +1

Chinese definitely don’t avoid Chinese brands

    • I live in a suburb with lot of Indian. Many are driving Mahindra.

    Nice looking car on paper.

    • The paper is as far as it should have developed.

      • Shortage of toilet papers in Australia, guess they do need papers

    • +10

1.2 litre engine, my last motorbike was bigger than that!

      • +1

your motorcycle was probably more expensive than this!

      • +18

no-one thinks your harley was cool

        • +2

          Harley pfft, jap sports bikes

          Zx14 was good…

          • +2

@wisc: sorry but that's just as lame.

sweet spot for a bike is 600-800cc.

above a litre and you're being a try hard trying to impress your mates while riding with square tyres (just like a harley would)

            • -1

@eddyah: Bigger is better in motorcycles. Big engine equals big torque.

            • @eddyah: Pfft, if you want to be in wringing it's neck constantly to get any sort of acceleration / power, your having to thrash the thing constantly to get power and the enjoyment.

Whereas with larger bore bikes you give it a squirt and you get your thrills, don't have to be doing 160 to get the same thrills..

Smaller bikes are great for a track day, corners. Larger bikes great for road use and acceleration,

Different bikes for different purposes, not everyone enjoys the same thing.

              I can appreciate both.

It's ok dude, you don't need to put other people down to make yourself feel better.

              Who hurt you dude?

            B M W (which way to Poland?)

      • 1.2 turbo.

    • +6

82kW engine…no wonder the specs are deep down the page

      • The price is ok, Toyota makes a 1.2L Turbo engine 8NR-FTS output around 85kW fitted to a Corolla available in many countries.

  • +26

offering a potent 82 Kw @ 5000 rpm stream of power and 200 Nm of torque

    what drugs are they on.
thats as potent as my ebike

    • +11

      You have a powerful ebike.

    • +4

Equally importantly, what weight is that engine lugging around, and what Crunchbox delivers each of those killer wasps to the drivetrain?

      • +6

Well. VW T Cross has the same ouput and this is almost 10k cheaper with more equipment.

        Both made in India.

        • -2

as much as a hate shitty arse VW suvs i'd reckon the t-cross is across the board superior to this but again, do people want to spend $7-8k to find out

if you must own a shitty ass small suv maybe try the kia stonic or even the mitsu asx (gross)

  • +1

Ancap rating as good as some of their other offerings?

  • That is really cheap - i wouldnt buy one but i welcome the competition

  • +2

Here for the resale value comments..

    • Not to mention spare parts

    • +3

Doesn’t really matter when it’s this cheap.

      • +1

If your car is waiting in the workshop for three months for a part, it matters.

        • -2

          Doesn’t affect resale does it?

          • @Brick Tamland: Depends on dealer network and spare parts availability.
Selling cars is one thing, supporting them is something else.

            • +2

              @King Tightarse: 70 dealers.

              • @Brick Tamland: 70 dealers is a good start! Here's hoping they are good with support and parts.
Many MG owners have experienced these exact issues. Often waiting months for parts and yet they are reasonably well set up with lots of dealers.
Selling cars is one thing, supporting them is another - we will see in time.

              • @Brick Tamland: And counting….

    • How about an appreciating asset?

  • +10

In what sense is this an SUV? It is smaller and less powerful than a Hyundai i30.
    - but jacked up 20cm higher. Is that all that SUV means now?

    • +29

Congratulations sir, you are now head of engineering and design at [insert any car manufacturer in the world here]

    • Yes

    • +5

Is that all that SUV means now?

yes. the majority of SUVs are effectively just lifted passenger cars

    • +1

Marketing BS aside, that is damned cheap for a hatchback with those specs.
Lets be honest, this is a city car, in which case 82kW is fine.

      • I agree 82kW is fine especially for a lightweight 1392kg SUV the sheet metals must be very thin so you don't want to go too crazy with it.

    • +1

I guess definitions of size change based on population density. Anything block smaller than 1000 square m used to be considered small, then 800, 600, now people consider 450 a reasonable block in the city. That and shrinkflation.

      • 450sqm in the city? If you are a multimillionaire perhaps. Or if you’re talking about Adelaide lmao.

    • +1

      Pretty much.
I like my sporty car but by golly has every parent got SUV and I miss not being able to have any idea of traffic beyond the vehicle in front. Definitely can see this being a little more appealing for those who want to sit higher - even fractionally.
Might give it an edge over competition - people are warming up to these “newer” brands.

Looks great. We don’t need more grey cars

    • +1

      Love that colour.

  • +5

No blind spot sensors on the side mirrors, if that matters to some.

    • +20

Call me old-fashioned but I just use my neck

      • +8

Having blind spot sensors on mirrors doesn't mean you stop doing head check. For some it's a good additional safety feature. But you do you.

        • +1

Tell that to 90% of Sydney drivers mate.

          • @Lord Ra: lol i'm sure 90% of people in syd have blind spot monitoring and still merge across you without indicating…

            • @tonyjzx: 😂😂😂
Yep, even if you're still right next to them!

              • +1

@Lord Ra: you beep them and they look at you like you're the a55hole…

  • Nice. How much see the premium version?

  • +4

    3XO AX5L

Looks more like rego no. 😅

    • +1

Get one! One day that plate will cost more than a resale on the car =)

  • +2

Better buy than the Chery. This has a Aisin transmission and should be way more reliable.

    • 'should be way more reliable' bit early to say that

      • +4

Aisin transmissions are very good. If the components are good there is a better chance the car will be good.

        • +1

Yes just based on transmission, agree. Overall vehicle is unknown quality however

          • +1

            @King Tightarse: aisin = toyota

            everything else though

also maybe checkout the dealer network…. i almost guarantee it super sucks

    • You give a gearbox to a third party who don't have the level of engineering of the OEM and it doesn't matter how good the parts are, it's the sum of those parts that determine the quality of the overall product.

      • +1

Wha??? Aisin is a Japanese gearbox specialist owned by Toyota. I think if anyone can make a good gearbox it’s them.

        • -7

I will agree and disagree with you mate. Asin is legendary but just because you have a car using quality parts does not mean it's going to be good, take for example take Musso Koren car using Mercedes so basically poor car using very expensive parts.

      • What are you on about?

    • Fxxk Aisin. got a 60k Subaru outback replaced the Aisin transmission out of warranty, that shxt box has sign of problem from 2 years 25k but no warranty cover!

      • CVT is shit in anything that isn’t a Toyota.

        • +1

a fail switch in gear box, miss-fire in engine because a part failure forgot the name, and yet was told it's from the same factory as Toyota. Piece of junk.
