Bupa recently caught out denying claims on people with legitimate claims, FYI. Might be some damage control, might be getting scammed in the future.

Yes, Bupa is a scamming cheating company. Avoid.

I had to take them to AFCA to get my son's hospital claim approved. Bupa rejected my claim because there was 1 code that was not covered. $4k claim denied because of $150 out of pocket expense.

You mean the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman. AFCA does not deal with private health insurance.

They're having a laugh. Almost every insurer offers 6 weeks free, but only Bupa is in the news for denying claims they should have paid.

Gonna have to offer a lot more to entice people to switch.

    • can you please list hospital only providers that offer 6 weeks free? I recently churned after getting 6 weeks free from ahm and I couldn't find any so I had to take TCB's $200 cashback offer. Wish this deal lasted until September.

I usually search for health insurance on Google, wait 30 minutes, then go to Instagram and browse stories.

You'll get inundated with health insurance offers.

Basically you are telling "the system" you're looking for health insurance and letting the data brokers propagate that intent so that Insta will serve you relevant ads.

Works well for electricity offers too. Its my goto method for finding all the deals in market at a point in time.

        • Feelsbadman. I don’t have ig. I assume the ig ads are sponsored so don’t get blocked by ad blockers

          • +1

@cheap4321: Just create one, it's free. Or Facebook.

I use ad blockers but in this case I want the ads. I use the IG app. Since you don't use IG, as a quick guide: sign up, follow some accounts that post a lot (IG will recommend some). Tap/swipe your way through the stories, usually you'll gets ads every 5-10 stories.

It's like having all the health insurers line up at your door, on demand, making you their best offers. You're using the system for your benefit.

No exaggeration - the last time I did this I took screenshots of all the ads I got in a 5 minute session. I got AAMI, Doctor's Health Fund, HBF, see-u by HBF, Frank Health Insurance back to back.

@goosmurf: Thanks and confirming that’s for hospital only cover? Like op I find insurers rarely have offers for hospital only

  • +3

Is this a joke post? Are you being serious posting this given the $35m fine Bupa have to pay?

    • -1

Nobody here is every going to claim against a hospital policy, it’s simply a means to avoid paying the higher Medicare Levy
All for profit health funds are pretty shit by their nature

  • +9

OP should mention that Bupa has a long history of denying legitimate claims.

Further, ABC reported this week that it has received complaints from customers that Bupa is continuing to deny legitimate claims, even outside of the period covered by the ACCC action.

Do not give money to lying and cheating companies like Bupa.

I am not associated with bupa. Honestly was looking around and saw this one for hospital only.

$35 mil fine, thousand of claims denied, they're probably still making profit.

Bupa is sorry that it got caught.

This is why when people have issues with service providers be it energy, banking, insurance, telcos, etc. it is important to not stand for bad service and delays - do not delay in submitting your complaint to the relevant ombudsman and in making a report to the ACCC. The more reports received, the quicker the regulators will take action.

  • I’ve been with Bupa forever. Reading these comments from Bupa is making me think of changing. Who is good these days?
