Never getting another ASUS router. So many fail after a year - intermittent connections, random disconnects, failing ports, random speeds, not openwrt-like (hard to configure), proven backdoors, etc.

Most don't have a problem and Asus is easy to configure.

CVE-2023-39780 backdoor was patched if you kept your firmware up to date. This is no different to any other router brand and OS.

All my Asus routers runs pretty solid since RT-AC68U more than 10 years ago

No issues using the RT (router only) not modem as well. And you can install Asus Merlin it works pretty well.

Still rocking Asus GT-AX6000 since 3 yrs without any issues. Not a single dropped connections or reboots required. Running merlin and keeping firmware latest keeps all vulnerability patched.

Some of the routers from Asus by far are one of the most reliable out there.

    • I recently returned two ASUS routers, both TUF AX6000. I could not get AiMesh to work despite trying everything, it was dropping connection repeatedly. Went back to repeater mode and still had issues. Put the previous repeater solution back in and has been rock solid although not as fast as I want the overall network to be. Maybe I got a bad unit or two or should have bought a Pro version but I doubt I will go with Asus again. Fortunately bought off Amazon so easy to return and get a full refund.

    • Which routers do you go for then?
From my personal experience, I’d stay away from Deco routers as their software is lacking basic features it’s ridiculous. For example, when you turn on 2.4ghz and 5Ghz, you can’t separate the SSID.
Also for some models (like the X73-dsl) there’s no whitelist/blacklist feature for MAC addresses.
