Dishwasher smells a bit after a little while. I run a cycle with a cup of vinegar. Don't really know quite the difference between using this and vinegar!
I think vinegar is not good for a dishwasher ..it corrodes the pipes
It looks brand new after use, and the price is worth investing.
I run this through mine
This stuff works well. I find my dishwasher sometimes can’t get hot enough to melt the wax plug so I run a cycle just long enough to get fresh water in the machine, stop it, cut the plug out and empty this into the water at the bottom and restart it. Same effect. Might help others.
If it doesn't get hot enough to melt the wax plug than it wouldn't be hot enough to dissolve fat and grease build up.
@thestig: i have a machine that defaults to it's eco setting (just under 50º i think) which works fine, even on pretty tough airfryer mesh trays etc. i doubt it'd be hot enough to melt these plugs but the machine has other settings that would be (the quick glass setting for example)
@thestig: Agree, but for whatever reason my unit doesn’t list the temperatures it runs at, it’s just “normal”, “heavy”, “intensive” etc. running on normal or whatever else seems to get the same result with this stuff - smells clean and the interior is sparkling.
FYI 1c less than Woolies or Coles homebrands, for those with more accessible Woolies or Coles.
The WW, Coles and Aldi ones are all Aussie made as well. From memory, Finish is Polish made.
Good to know, I'll get the WW, Coles or Aldi- Made in Australia.
Thanks mate, didn't know this existed.
How do you use it? Do I run an empty dishwasher on the lowest 30min cycle?
You should run it on the hottest cycle.
Aldi one is great and always cheap. I use dishwasher every day, run this every few months, helps break down the salt build up and heavier grease. Clean your filters regularly folks!
"Clean your filters regularly folks!" Best advice with a dishwasher.
Depends on the dishwasher, but every 3-6 months my shitty 15yo one starts getting noticeably worse at washing dishes. Rinsed dishes come out less clean then they went in. Using one of these fixes it, and removes the build up of smell. Without using this stuff, after about a year my dishwasher is basically useless and before I tried this we were handwashing instead.
That being said, the home brand ones seem fine, don't need the finish.
Once I washed a pan that had a thin layer of grease that I forgot to wipe off. By the time the cycle was done, the inside of the dishwasher was caked in sticky grease. I ran a cycle with one of these and it was good as new.
thanks.. I just ran out today
Woolworths also has their Strike brand for $2.80 pretty regularly. It’s all the same stuff.
That’s the one. Shine not strike, apologies.
You can also just buy these crystals of some acid that's used to clean dishwashers and washing machines and just use that
Buy a tub of citric acid - same ingredient and a lot cheaper.
We run a tablespoon of it in our dishwasher every month.Any recommendation on citric acid?
Lemon 🍋
🤣
You should use a product like this once in a while.
Please note that this is NOT a substitute to removing the filter and giving it a good clean with a toothbrush.
Automatic or manual brush ?
Whichever you are planning to use the same night before you go to bed.
😅
You are right, though the filter shouldn’t be too dirty. A lot of people leave their machines to do foo mjch heavy lifting. That's why faulty dishwashers are ao common, irrespective of the brand.
You should lightly rinse your dishes or remove obvious pieces of food before dishwashing.
This will prolong the life of the dishwasher more than anything else.
I've cleaned the filter in my dishwasher twice now and it was hardly dirty.
I sort of agree BUT I'm happy for the dishwasher to do the heavy lifting, just scrape the food off the plates but no need to rinse it before going into the dishwasher.
However, I do clean the filter every month or so, takes 2-3 minutes. It gets dirty but not filthy. My dishes come back sparkling clean.
Another tip is to use powder detergent instead of tablets so you can use the pre-rinse cycle and adjust the amount of powder to the size of the load accordingly.
I've never had a dishwasher fault.
The manual for mine specifically says not to rinse off plates, I’m guessing because it’s more efficient at cleaning by filtering and recirculating the detergent-laden water. That being said if it’s super messy I’ll give it a spray.
I looked into this, and there are two main reasons why manuals advise against rinsing dishes.
Modern dishwashers often use sensors to gauge how dirty the water is, and rinsing can trick the machine into thinking the load is cleaner than it is, leading to a lighter wash.
If the dishes are too clean, the detergent can end up being harsher on the items, as it has nothing to break down.
There are also environmental arguments about water and energy waste. But here's the thing, when I say "rinse," I don't mean scrubbing or lightly washing. I mean removing large chunks of food. You can do this by scraping with a fork, sure, but sometimes it’s just quicker to run it briefly under the tap to loosen things.
I also think dishwashers tend to oversell how robust they are. If you regularly leave big bits of food on the plates, it may cause build-up over time. The machine might struggle or develop problems, not something manufacturers are quick to warn you about. Most people I know DON'T do what I suggest, but then most people that I know over time develop issues with their washers…The filtration system of a dishwasher is not fool proof.
Btw, when I remove the chunks of food with a light rinse, it has not affected the performance of my machine. Part of that is probably because I don't wash on Auto setting (I would avoid auto) and use fixed settings such as Eco/Pots/Pan etc. I use a Bosch and I still wouldn't trust it fully.
It says 500ml pack of 1?
I've never understood this product.
The dishwasher gets cleaned along with the plates every cycle.
Do you find this is beneficial?
