  • I don't see this as a bargain. They have coupons every month or so.
I think you should specify which item is actaully a bargain.

    • Every month or so? Do they deliver it to ur email/ home?
I never receive any coupon since i joined

      • It comes through email, but they do not have specials every month or so. Having said that it will be good if they had coupons more often.

        • Just got my email.

    • Coupons come out about four times a year.

  • Do you actually have to present the coupons?? It's pretty slack if you do since you have to pay the 'privilege' to shop there.

    • +9

Nope, just walk in and the prices are ticketed, this is pretty much just a flyer.

  • +4

Should this have come to my email too??

The people of ozb will down vote this deal, without the pricing. Need to get the prices first then post the deal, that's what I did last time the coupons came out.

    • I agree. This is why I don't see it as a bargain.

    • +2

Some prices are listed on the link. The big items don't have prices, but personally, I am very glad I have been told today rather than tomorrow. At least now I have a chance to get there first thing tomorrow.

  • +5

The prices of the grocery goods don't seem that cheap. At least not worth the drive to a Costco.

    • Hmm a 100ml bottle of nandos sauce from coles costs about $3.30 ish so x by 10 = $33 for a litre of suace from coles, or $7.99 from costco. That seems pretty cheap to me.

    • At least not worth the drive to a Costco.

Well that depends a lot on how far from Costco you live.

  • -2

An advertisement for prices that ALL members will receive…No deal for us plebs —-> send it to the forum

    • +4

Going to down vote every Costco deal?

    • Plenty of advertised deals make the front page? Now if you had said announcing a catalogue is not a deal………

  • Only thing that's worth it (looking at the catalogue) is Biozet and maybe the Shortcut bacon.
Even Quantum is cheaper on GroceryRun including shipping.

    • Only thing that's worth it (looking at the catalogue) is Biozet

Ahhh.. No, not really. It works out to $4.29 per kilo (not $4.27 as they claim). By memory it was on sale at Coles and Woolies (now and in the past week) for $5 a kilo (1k pack) and $4.50 a kilo (2k pack). Hardly worth a long trip (unless you are nearby a Cosco).

      • So your sums have worked out that it's cheaper? People who live far away won't bother, but for nearby & regular shoppers it's good value.

        • -4

says the man that is rigorously defending this deal

        • +1

says the man that doesn't know what rigorously means….

        • +1

I am going to say that my sums make it $4.28 per kilo - that extra cent is very important! And I mean that vigorously!

        • So your sums have worked out that it's cheaper?

That is correct - 21 cents cheaper per kilo.

I was replying to kangaberries, who said "Only thing that's worth it…. is Biozet".

So, a 21 cent saving is hardly worth a long trip (unless you are nearby a Cosco). And not many are living really close to Sydney's Costco, but as you say for "regular shoppers" that are going there anyway "it's good value".

        • -2

And not many are living really close to Sydney's Costco…

          That's Auburn.

          The BFL's are close.

    • +5

Well palyed kangaberries, you made me touch my computer screen thinking I was squashing a small insect on your avatar pic… well played.

    • +1

Quantum is 60 tablets for $23.99 at Costco, Groceryrun is 60 tablets for $23 + $4.95 shipping = $27.95. How is that cheaper? Or am I missing something?

      • yeh you're right there I made an error, I normally buy when GR has free shipping so that figure got stuck to my head.

  • +1

Sony Muteki7.2 will down to $789. Good price.

    • +1

      Tempted.

My kids will just wreck it though - think I need smaller wall-mounted speakers, their aim isn't as good if they have to throw…

  • +3

The OralB replacement brush heads at 2.80 each sounds good to me.

    • +2

That is a massive bargain. Usually over $5 per brush head at Woolies or Shaver Shop. AND these would not be the fakes found on eBay.

      • Yeah it is a bargain. Although, I've seen that Chemist Warehouse has them for about $19 for 4+2 (so a little over 3.15 each). All precision clean regular brush heads though, whereas the Costco deal seems to have 8 regular + 2 floss (?) brushes.

Costco had the same deal the last time they sent out coupons.

        • Are you talking about the Chemist Warehouse $19.99 deal? This would be $3.33ea. Good price but a lot cheaper with the linked Costco deal. Interestingly, Chemist Warehouse has the floss head 2 pack for $19.39, so it looks like these are a better head than the regular ones.

        • Yeah, they have it for 18.99 now ($1 off). The floss heads are a bit stronger and weirder than the regular brush heads (suction-cup thing in the middle). They are more expensive, but imo they aren't really a substitute for flossing.

  • I would like to know what is the final price of the advertised Sony Bravia 46"

  • +1

While I am not going to vote it down and am actually interested to see what Costco has to offer (this is the closest I'll get, being in Perth) since there are no actual 'deals' specified I think it should be in the forums.
edit actually, after looking through the items there are precious few deals in the catalogue anyway and even those aren't a huge saving.

  • -1

No prices on big ticket items? While Costco is known to be cheaper than a lot of other retailers, discounted big ticket items with no intial price, detsroys it for me.

    • +5

Agree. Would be very annoying to turn up to costco and find the items more expensive than other retailers

    • -1

The onus is on the OP to highlight the bargain, not just link to advertisement.

      • The link has them pretty clearly mentioned. For Costco, I don't have an issue with this post. I wouldn't neg as all the information is there for anyone who is interested.

    • +1

Costco don't advertise the price of their big ticket items, not sure if this is an agreement with the supplies or not. That is why I have found the Loaded Trolley blog so useful. They did do TVs a while back… http://loadedtrolley.com.au/list-of-televisions-for-sale-at-…

The 40" Sony is mentioned at $629.99, at $100 off it would be $529.99. Cheapest on Shopbot was around the $620 mark, so looks like it could be a good deal.

If we waited until tomorrow for the OP or someone else to confirm exact prices, it is possible that we would miss the deal.

Don't rush to Costco though, I want a 40" Sony before they are OzBargained.

      • I'm pretty keen on picking up a 40" Sony myself…
But I remember reading somewhere that it might be worth waiting till March when new models are released and older models get discounted…is this true?

$530 sounds like a decent buy, but I'm happy to wait another month or so.

    • Did you read the link?

  • +1

    Any discount on tyres?

  • +1

Regardless of the coupons I have saved everytime I go to Costco. There is always something that you need which is cheaper than elsewhere. So if you are not a member the deal is not for you. Don't bother looking at it. Its like the HDD drive available only in WA! Only people in WA can get it good luck to them! Why complain?

  • +2

So Im negged on the basis the OP didnt post anything but a catalogue with discounted prices with nothing to substantuate his post? Nice one OB! Im impressed!

    • i would say you were negged because you seem to to have ignored this from OP's post

I will be heading in store in the next couple of days, so for the items that don't have the final price on them, check http://loadedtrolley.com.au in the next few days to see what they come out at.

    • +1

But the deals where there, just in the link. More polite to ask for them to be added than neg. Mod has now outlined the actual deals. Neg should be used if there is not a bargain, or a dodgy supplier.

Give people a chance to fix their post first or people (especially newbies) will just stop posting deals.

  • Costco's prices aren't special, the membership is a total rip

    • +11

If you see a good deal, you can pay your $60. Get the deal, then ask for 100% of your member fee back ( anytime during the 12 months). Costco is only good if you know your prices. Any true OzBargainer will know what things at Costco are worth buying.

      • +7

And you can return any item, anytime even without the receipt. Try that with other retailers. $60 membership fee is worth it.

        • +1

I returned some food I'd opened. The handed me the refund in cash without looking at it.

The really take pride in doing things right, the main problem is there aren't enough of them (so it's always crowded and too far for lots of people).

  • +1

The nandos sauce is a bloody good deal

    • I'm getting a few bottles. Better than the simmer sauces at woollies.

      • Nando's sauce is perfect for the Aussie Day barbie. Pair it with all the recent booze deals and you're all set!

    • Note that they only have the hot Nandos sauce, at least here in Melbourne. I wish they stocked the mild sauce as well!

  • The razors aren't even cheap. Deal fox usually puts them on sale at 12 razors for $20 delivered.

    • Joining fee? So what, it gets you better pricing in the long run.

How is location(only an issue for you) a valid reason.

Date of birth is nothing to worry about too much? Is it? What's the issue. They sell alcohol there, mdont want minors buying it?

      And lastly, don't shop there.

    • -5

Wow, an avalanche of negs - you'd think i was talking about your mother.

      @berger says:

Date of birth is nothing to worry about too much?

If you don't understand the problem with this, then i probably can't help you as it's rather bleeding obvious.

      I'll add another reason:

Fourthly, not all their prices are shown, especially for the higher prices items, just the discount. Why not? What are they afraid of? They're not for transparency?

There's strong competition in Oz between main players - esp over the last few years. Nothing to see here.

      • +1

But do the main players have better pricing than Costco? Before casting judgment on a company like this, why don't you go into a store and have a look, you are allowed to browse for free, during the week. Never know, might like it.

        • +4

But do the main players have better pricing than Costco?

I could well say "But does Costco have better pricing than the main players?". It's far from clear from the post.

My First & Fourth reasons are more than enough to justify a neg under the OB guidelines. The Second is a joke Joyce. The Third is an irritation.

I do know that when Coles/WOW advertise an item, they show the final price. They don't ask for my DOB at the checkout. They don't ask me to pay a fee before i try to buy my first loaf of bread.

No, i'm not a fan of the Costco format.

No, i don't understand why the OP spends so much time with his loadedtrolley website.

          BTW, this was quite revealing:

Before casting judgment on a company like this…

I was actually 'casting judgment' on the bargain-value of a post, not the company.
Why precisely are you so defensive about this particular company anyway???

        • +2

And you can return any item, anytime even without the receipt. Try that with other retailers. $60 membership fee is worth it.
Sony Muteki7.2 for $789 is at least $200 cheaper than any other retailers in Australia.

        • +1

Sony Muteki7.2 for $789 is at least $200 cheaper than any other retailers in Australia.

Then they should show the goddamn price so i can get a price match at OW, assuming they sell it.

        • +4

Why am I defensive? One reason is I have nothing better to do, the other is I like shopping there, I am an avid bargain hunter, and like to save money where I can, i spent my $60 membership there, and I'm still ahead. I still shop everywhere else and there are times, quite often it can be cheaper at Coles/wow. Overall I'm about saving money and finding a bargain.

I'm just saying give it a go one day, you may be surprised.

Oh, officeworks don't sell that either.

        • +1

Hang on, you told me not to shop there!

Buggers are no where near me anyway, and nor is Aldi (I used to OD on their yogurt - they've got a big contract with Tassie's Tamar Valley outfit).

You should pity me. I do.

        • OW will not price match anyway, as Costco's stuff is only available to members.
That was their reasoning last time I tried.

  • +1

My neg to the deal has been revoked.

Seems this has come about because of the number of negs to my initial comment.

    It's all covered here:

Currently, (individual) negative votes are not actively being removed by moderators. Moderators are tending to let the community revoke a negative vote. By voting negative for the first comment by the negative voter, you are contributing to revoking that vote. Once the threshold of negative votes has been reached for the comment, the vote is revoked.

    I for one didn't know about this…

No, i don't know what the threshold is. I asked the mods & was told "The threshold is a significant amount of negative votes", which obviously means it's not disclosed.

I still don't see it as a deal, esp given the joining fee & the opaque pricing. Though with 38 positive votes at time of writing, i'm clearly in the minority.

    • -2

I read your comment, all I imagine is a little baby spitting a dummy….

      • +3

        wtf?

I gave reasons for the neg, clarified when challenged, investigated & explained when i noticed the neg had been revoked.

How precisely is this consistent with 'spitting a dummy'???

And your comment below is ludicrous - my negative vote 'should reflect the opinion of the community'??? Even if this was so (and jv couldn't put it better), how exactly am i to discern this opinion anyway?

All i imagine is a diminutive little guy choking on his primary school certificate. Oh bum, i think i just spat my dummy out.

        • -1

The most common way on ozbargain is how many people have upvoted or downvoted you

All i imagine is a diminutive little guy choking on his primary school certificate. Oh bum, i think i just spat my dummy out.

all you did was embarrass yourself :)

        • -2

Thank you for reproducing my entire comment.

It was indeed worth reading twice…

    • What is the point of negative votes in the first place, if they can be revoked by the community? So you can have an opinion and vote, though your vote won't count if enough people disagree with you? Right..

      • -3

the point is your negative vote should reflect the opinion of the community (other ozbargain members) If you dont want to have your neg vote revoked dont post a comment with it like FreckleNuts did

        • +3

It is people like you who make me think twice before commenting on here. That is not a compliment. People are entitled to their own opinions, whether or not the majority of people agree with them.

        • +3

the point is your negative vote should reflect the opinion of the community

          is that you Mao ???

        • +1

People are entitled to their own opinions, whether or not the majority of people agree with them.

unfortunately some people here don't believe we should post our opinions…

        • If you dont want to have your neg vote revoked dont post a comment with it like FreckleNuts did

That's right - i should adapt to the rules next time.

          1. Make sure my initial comment is (a) short, (b) uncontroversial, and (c) accords with the OB guidelines for negging deals. Like this one, who's neg survived.

          2. THEN make jokes in separate comments about Auburn, about how Costco represents American Imperialism at its worst, and primary school certificates.

        • -2

It is people like you who make me think twice before commenting on here. That is not a compliment. People are entitled to their own opinions, whether or not the majority of people agree with them.

people are entitled to thier opinion? no way!?:o I am starting to suspect you dont know what the upvote and downvote buttons are for….

That isnt a compliment either :)

you might want to read http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/ before you encounter other people "like me"

      • What is the point of negative votes in the first place, if they can be revoked by the community?

Actually i'm not too sure i'm worried about this, given negs can have longer term implications. I'm not too happy that the threshold is not disclosed, but i can think of some good reasons to justify that as well.

The thing is it took me a moment to work out what had happened as the revocation was automated and there was no formal advice of the revocation or reasons. Also, at about the same time my first comment was being hit by exploding heads, someone must have complained about my inappropriate profile (esp the URL). Me? Inappropriate? Never!

  • +1

    nandos and gillette seem good

    • +1

Darn it, my finger scrolling down the side of my S3 did it again. Apologies CVonV, that was an unintentional neg. Mods, please revoke.

      • You can revoke your own votes on comments within an hour, just click on 'votes' under the comment and you'll see how to do it.

        • +1

Ahh thanks, I'll remember that for next time

  • The only valid complaint with Costco is that sometimes the stock is not very good.

For example many categories of items have like 2 or 3 choices and that's it.

    • That's the whole point of Costco. Instead of having 40 types of baked beans at an average-high price, sell one or two types in bulk at a discount.

      • It's also the same thing Aldi do. Keep the choices simple. High turnover

  • +1

Was looking at a tv at JB and they wouldnt price match Costco as there reason was that its a membership based format.

    • I have had Masters price match based on a photo I took at Costco before.

  • +2

The V energy drink case is nowhere near a bargain for this large a quantity at $1.55 per can. Coles Express had this on special last week for $5 per 4 pack ($1.25 per can).

  • -5

Holy smoke. I just worked out how much of my time this took up, and it's not even a deal I'm interested in. I'm about to change my password to something forgettable, just to deal with the addiction. Should be back in a couple of months or so, after detox. To all my homies: until then, farewell.

  • +1

Well worth shopping at Costco from time to time. Just avoid any products from the US that use corn syrup which are made from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) corn. They're banned from Europe cause of the results from test causing cancer. I know some Hershey products as well as soft drinks contain them

  • Coupons for January… umm its the barking 21st of JANUARY!

  • How much is the dual oral b 3000? Its Lalso eligible for $30 cash back.

    • +1

Regular price is $146.99, less the $35 coupon makes it $111.99. Plus there's the $30 cash back if you buy before 31 Jan.

The cheapest prices I could find elsewhere (online) were $140 for the single, or $160 for the double (from eBay). So the Costco price is very good - a $48 saving, or $28 if you only needed the single handle.
