No 1TB for Fold 7 disappointing. Minimum cost will be interesting to look out for, may turn out to be cheaper than buying directly from Samsung unpack promo

    • +1

My exact thought, premium phone but no 1TB version…

      • Exactly. If im spending that much I would want to future proof for at least 4 to 5 years. 512gb wont be enough. Also the 1TB model supposedly has 16gb ram versus 12gb.

        • I hardly full my 128gb, may be because I don't play games and don't take lot of photos.

        • want to future proof for at least 4 to 5 years

If my past experiences with previous models are anything to go by, you will be lucky if the intetnal folding screen lasts 4-5 years.

          • +1

@oz-dave: Yeah I laughed when I saw how gullible the guy was to think they'd get such long life out of a folding phone

            • @eddyah: My fold 4 internal screen died just after 1.5 years.

Apparently it wasn't the screen that died, it was the cable that lives within its folding hinge.

So yeah, i never got to use up the 256GB.

      • +2

I believe there is 1TB model just the sales page is only showign the cheapest model

        • I hope so, because like @RolePlayer88 said, I want future proof if I'm paying that much for a phone.

    • No 1TB? I wish they got 2TB verison, i cant even survive with 1TB

      • They only have upto 1TB. But only released in certain regions and seems AU is not included

    • +10

Genuinely curious: Why do you need 1 TB on a phone? If its for photos and videos isnt it easier to just backup automatically to a service like Google Photos and free the local storage?

      • +5

Prefer not to pay for cloud storage. Also I intend to use the phone as a portable laptop (samsung dex). For that reason Im willing to pay alot more as Im using it beyond its phone function.

        • ok but then you can also use a portable SSD for backup so you dont need a larger disk on the phone itself? Samsung phones camera supports direct storage to SSD via Good Lock -> Camera Assistant if needed.

I find apps these days have become/becoming more and more bloated, especially if you game on your device. Additional data for a single AAA game can go upwards of 20GB+ :/

Just this year I discovered the eufy security app taking up 1GB+ storage whereas it was only 100MB ish previously. If other apps follow and this size becomes the norm, that can quickly add up.

High res video recordings can take up quite a chunk of storage too especially if you need to retain the original quality of the files.

      • +1

Pay for storage is bad. Downloading the photos is even worse. I tried getting my photos from google photos onto my PC and its clearly designed to never let you go from the subscription. Cumbersome, slow.. awful experience. Thankfully tried before committing my library of photos. Fine if you just want them on your phone though.

    • They have 1TB, already listed

    • confirmed that JBHIFI can do 1T version .

    • confirmed that JB can do 1Tb version . but I chose the deal of HN -$1900 off for ZF7 when porting $69/m for 24 months

  • Is this the thing people did before and cancelled the contract right away?

    • +6

Yes. We call it OZB way 🙂

      • Can anyone give me an idiots guide haha 😂

My mother is looking for a new phone and she only knows how to use an iPhone.

Do I just go in buy this for her and cancel right away and pay the contract out?

How on earth do you work out what the cost would be?

It says they charge you for the voucher on the terms or do they just not bother?

        • +6

          For iPhone get this deal:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/914720

Sign up 24 months plan and pay $99 first month fee upfront, get the iPhone 16, and then cancel the plan and you will be invoiced $766 cancellation fee by Telstra. Cancellation Fee for these plans is $800. You will be invoiced for 23 months given the 1st month fee is paid upfront. So $800/24*23=$766.67

            @OZBsince2018: Legend thank you

            • +1

              @warwagon86: Happy to help 🙂

              • @OZBsince2018: Who do we need to contact to cancel the plan — JB Hi-Fi or Telstra?

                • @bestd: You can either simply port out by buying a $2 SIM of any Optus network or cancel via JB Hifi mobile App or via Telstra chat.

                  • +1

@OZBsince2018: Just curious, since this deal here says port-in only

Does that mean I need to buy a random $2 sim under the phone plans under good guys/ telstra/ boost to get that number going
go to JB hifi and port in to the JB plan at $99 a month to secure the phone for 2899 - 1800 = 1099 (+99 for the first month)

Once that's done (1198 is current price I guess?) I cancel the JB plan and pay the cancellation fee which should be ~800 ? so this phone is effectively 1198 + 800 = 1998.

Is that right or did I miss something here.
Wanting to see if this vs buying from unpacked directly is better. (without trading in my current phone which is a z fold 6; might see how much I can get for my pixel 8a though)

                    • @atimuslol: Your number has to be on an Optus or Vodafone network to port to JB Hifi Telstra network.
Cancellation fee will be $766+99 first month fee + the reminder of the phone cost after netting off the $1800 GC

                      • @OZBsince2018: Ahhh I see! wonder if buying a dummy optus prepaid number would suffice - got a decent optus deal that i'm locked into atm.

Thanks mate! Will check this vs samsung price tomorrow morning and make my decision

                      • @OZBsince2018: I'm not so sure it works that way anymore.

In their T&Cs it now says this:

If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel
that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding
amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher
                        Repayment Fee).

The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your
Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
                        (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
                        (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
                        (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.

If you cease making payment for your Mobile Service under our Financial Hardship Policy,
then each month during which payments are suspended will be added to the Voucher Term.

Where you are required to pay the Voucher Repayment Fee, we will issue you with a bill for
the amount payable, which you can pay using a payment method of your choice within 10
days. If you don’t pay it within 10 days, then we will automatically deduct the amount owing
from the bank account, debit card or credit card that you have nominated for your AutoPay
                        payments.

                        • @Arcticfox: Terms and Conditions have always been like that. But actual cancellation fee is $800 pro rata for 23 months

                    • @atimuslol: Wrong, port-in from non- Telstra, so if you are currently on Telstra network, then get online sim from amaysim or lyca, so you can port-in for deal.

          • @OZBsince2018: How did you find out the cancellation fee?

            • @PeeDee: I did this trick to get a S24U for $800ish last year.

What Arcticfox has quoted looks identical to what i remember the T&Cs looked like when i did it.

The thing to remember, at least from the one I did, is that the "JB Hifi Voucher" referred to there is NOT the $1800 taken off, but is the contract's term for the "voucher" that entitles you to get the phone from JB Hifi when you sign up for the 24 month plan (with, in this case, a $1800 discount applied). Think of it this way - you sign up with Telstra for a 24m plan, they give you a voucher to redeem at JB Hifi for a phone. JB Hifi then offers a deal to those holding that voucher. In practice, it's all done at once at JB Hifi.

The Voucher Repayment Fee is completely separate, and is what you pay if you cancel the Telstra service, and pro-rated to the amount of months through the 24 month plan period you are. When I did it it was $800ish, notwithstanding i got (i think, cant quite remember) the phone for free. The Telstra T&Cs don't refer to the (in this case) $1800 discount in any way (as that is a separate matter between the consumer and JB Hifi), so there is no way under THAT contract for that amount to be dealt with or rectified. I can't comment or remember if there were any associated JB hifi T&Cs for their component of the deal, but it seems like if there were they're not being enforced.

Dont rely on me though - if you're minded to do this have a good look at the contract yoursepf and this message should not be relied upon or construed as legal advice.

  • +2

$1400 for Iphone 16 range too.

    • Any details of it?

edit; never mind, it’s just been posted

  • -8

    Eww still 1800 for the Z Fold7

    • +2

      Wouldnt it be $2899 - $1800 = $1099 for fold 7

      • +12

If you do the "trick" you need to add around 880. So 1099 + 880 = about 1979 or about $2000 so even worse lol

        • Still $900 of retail for the Fold7

  • +3

How do they have this before release tonight?

    • +1

They have the phones already however there is an embargo period that is why it's on pre-order

    • +1

They just released the offer not the phone. And I presume this offer will be available from tomorrow when pre-orders start.

  • Here we go again

  • -8

will be 1k off in 3months

    • On what basis?

      • -3

Look at S25 Edge Scamsung bro

        • +3

hard to tell at current time tho - F7 has been the most awaited since F3, so the majority of sales will likely come from existing Fold 3,4,5,6 trade-in users

        • +1

Yea, I'll give them 9 months for this model, they made a proper phone this time, with a proper cam

  • Will we also get the $300 giftcard in the picture for Flip 7? That’d make it pretty good price

  • +4

Will the flip 7 be as following?
    $1799 Ticket price
    -$200 Coupon
    -$300 Bonus gift card
    -$1450 Telstra plan

+$766 plan cancellation (provided you can secure refund for the first month)

    $615 for 512GB flip 7

    • Spot on!

    • +4

Based on past experience, $300 Bonus Gift Card can’t be used on the same deal.

      • True, and assumes you have $300 worth of other stuff u want to buy. My maths on fold 7 are $2900 -200 coupon -1800 rebate +766 cancel fee = $1666 (assuming samssung coupon wotks?)

        • It’d depend on staff I guess, that $200 might not be accepted for plan like this

        • +1

+99 first month fee, as lately it isn’t possible to get it refunded.

      • Where is $200 coming from?

Isnt the phone already discounted by $200 at $1799?

      • It depends on the staff, but if you want to try your luck combining Telstra deal and GC bonus its best to do it on day one. If you are lucky, there will be some staff who will just allow it before its getting abused by Ozbargainers.

    • Sorry - what's the $200 coupon?

        • damn i missed out to register on jb; i only did it on samsung site

          • @atimuslol: I did register but haven’t received any code. Not sure if anyone else received. It might be the same code that Samsung has sent i.e. UNFOLD2025

      • +1

        @kuepper, @dtoovey, @Ash-Say
Similar to samsung, JB had a page to pre-register interest to receive the 200 coupon which can be used on purchasing these phones from jb.

        • Did anyone received the voucher from Jbhifi yet?

          • @Uniqlymine: Eligible Samsung Galaxy phones and coupon will be emailed shortly after pre-order period starts.

          • @Uniqlymine: I just received the $200 coupon code from JB Hifi. Its a unique code.

    • Isnt the coupon only for use on samsung.com?

    • Under the plan cancellation in the terms and conditions you have to repay the whole voucher amount prorata for months left. Not $800 as quoted by some here

      • +2

This has been discussed millions of times on OZB. Its always written like that but the actual cancellation fee has always been $800

        • Don't worry, in every post like this, there's always someone who never did it but still trying to convince other, they're the right one :)

          • @hanofee: Thats true. I have done this before but it was many moons ago.
The inclusion about having to pay the voucher back didn't exist back then and without trawling through a million previous posts it doesn't hurt to just ask the question to those with updated knowledge.
I mean, if the only fall back is "Phoneguy22 and rabbitpluggerxxx on OzB said otherwise…" probably won't cut it if things go wrong.
Ultimately the risk is always on the purchaser, but many believe it still works so do with that what you will.
I would be willing to give it a shot, but not sure I need to swap my Flip6 out just yet.

            • @Arcticfox: Yes, you and me shouldn't be the source of truth, the one who's buying need to read the contract in store themselves to be on the safe side. I'm only referring that if u read all the JB thread in the last 2 years or so, there are always many sceptical who said not possible, ur wrong, u need to read the T&C, bla bla, yet many already did succesfully and shared their experience in those threads. Not saying, they won't change some day.
It doesn't hurt to ask, of course, but he flat out saying we're the one not understanding how it works…

    • Anyone able to pull this off? Flip7 with the $200 preorder voucher and still getting $300 gc?

    • I went to store yesterday to ask

The 300 bonus gift card and the telstra plan are separate

I don't have the 200 coupon but I suspect it may not work with telstra port because it says in store only but if it can be applied it would make sense

  • -1

ports only? interesting if that's so.

  • +6

Let's be honest. Nobody is paying $2899 for a Fold. These recommended retail price is a joke.

    • +4

Agree. Thats why I only buy Samsung phones via pre-order deals. I don’t think anyone pays RRP for Samsung phones.

  • Why no gift card for fold 7?

    • +2

You will not get that gift card if you get $1800 off. Gift card is for buy it outright only. It was working before but now JB sent out a memo to their staffs not to issue gift card when buy it on the plan.

You might get lucky with new staffs but the chance is very slim.

  • -6

Just wait 6 months and buy it like $500 less. It doesn't keep its value like Apple.

    • +7

No, you are wrong. Sure, Samsung fold is not worth $2899 for sure, but buying on pre-order sales is always the best time for Samsung and Pixel phones. As matter of fact, I haven't lose money upgrading my Samsung phone from time to time, even make some profits sometimes.

      • +1

        Agreed with pre order sale. I got a pixel 9 pro fold 512gb for $963 ( $1600 off + $1000 trade in bonus )

    • Preorder deals are the best

  • I was just looking at the news .com .au page on Galaxy Unpacked 2025, where they state:

We’re just hours away from the launch of Samsung’s latest generation of foldable phones but Amazon customers can already score a massive $200 discount on the new range.

And clicking the provided link to Amazon leads to the Amazon India website, where an ad for the "New Super Powerful Galaxy Note 9" is prominently displayed, and, naturally, there is no mention of the new range.
    Had to laugh.

    • So there my Note 9 ended up after trading it in few weeks ago.

Clearly i did not know what i had :D

  • I will consider jump in only if there is also trade in bonus.

  • Can you do this with a business account, does anyone know?

  • No Snapdragon will be the deal breaker
