  • Bummer, my current promo is finishing next month and I'm paying $85 for 250/25. I wonder if they cut me a deal if I tell them that I'll go to another provider?

    • +2

Just cancel for a month and resign up under a different name; email and phone number

      • +1

So, if my missis signs up should be fine even if it's the same address? Her name is under alternative contact on my account?

        • +5

          Missus.

          • -1

@TheBardsTale: The correct spelling of the informal term for "wife" or a woman whose name is not known is "missus". The term is also sometimes spelled "missis".

            • +1

              @Aloff: For the pedants:

              "Missis"
              - Primarily used informally and becoming old-fashioned, often after "the," "my," "your," or "his" to refer to a man's wife.
              - Used as a term of address by some people for a woman whose name is not known.

              "Missus"
              - More commonly used than "missis".
              - Can refer to a man's wife or girlfriend.
              - Can be used as a spoken form of "Mrs." in some dialects.
              - In some regions, it may be pronounced with a soft "u" sound.

Now, back to Opticomm deals. :-)

      • You may find that companies now check name, address, email address, phone number and if any one of these is a hit, no cigar.

    • +3

Tried this. The most they'll give is $10 off the full price, always better to just keep churning.

  • Anyone recommend reputable alternatives that offer opt out from CG-NAT for those that can't take advantage of this deal?

    • You will need to pay extra $10 for external IP address. I believe this is the same with most opticomm providers

      • Exetel was free when I opted out and was working five weeks ago. Guess I'll stick with them.

        • I'm with exetel, they're no longer offering opticomm and now refer me onto superloop if I try to leave. Also kinda sucks given that opticomm users won't necessarily benefit from the upcoming NBN plan changes

        • Exetel only offers One Plan to new customers and there is no option to opt out of CGNAT for One Plan customers.

    • At Origin the Fixed IP is $5, but without a deal they are expensive.

    • Launtel provides a static public IP for free if you put in a refundable $100 deposit.

      • Honestly? Just in case someone runs off with the ip? What a weird thing to ask for lol. ~$5/year (in interest) seems like it's not worth the effort to collect it. Unless they put in some sneaky clause like "you have to ask for it back or we keep it".

        • +1

I think the refundable deposit is a great idea. It makes it available at minimal cost for those who will use it, while creating enough "inconvenience" that people won't apply for it "just in case I need it in the future".

It achieves the same outcome as when other ISPs charge $5/month for static IP (i.e. only those who really want it will apply for it), without really charging for it.

    • I recently signed up with Occom as they have 500/50 plans priced lower than everyone else which is pre-empting the new price tiers in Sept. I argued the point that they allow gamers to have a public IP for no extra cost, and they pushed me to explain why I needed it, and I just reminded them it should be free as per the FAQ on their site. I wasn't interested in a static IP, just one that wasn't behind a CG-NAT so my plex server could speak to the outside world.

  • +3

Anyone know any news from Opticomm to match NBN speeds in September?

    • +8

It's not been confirmed 100% but looks promising, here's an article

  • Damn should have signed up yesterday when CR had $55 cashback (was sad I missed out on $120). Shopback is $40

    • +1

It is still 55 on my app

      • Hmm website displays $55 as well. I swear it went away this morning

  • How soon can I avail this deal if I stopped using Superloop on 31 July 2025 and started on ABB on 1 August 2025?

    • +1

Were you on a 6 month discounted plan with Superloop? If so then I assume you have to wait 12 months according to their terms however someone above said sign up with a different name, email, phone number

      • Yeah I was until a couple of months ago. Will get a family member to sign up.

  • Just FYI for anyone it might impact, I changed from 100/40 to 1000/50 on Exetel simply to squeeze out a little bit more upload and it made no tangible difference. Either way it was around 42. Now I regret it because I paying much less on 100/40.

Also note Opticomm is PPPoE so you need to get hands on with switchover.

    • +2

I'm planning to switch over from Exetel. What do you mean by hands on?

      • +2

Just need to login to your router, go to WAN settings and type in the PPPoE login details that the ISP sent you via email. Took me all of 30 seconds, so "hands on" is a bit exaggerated.

    • Depends on the ISP and Estate. My Leaptel Opticomm is IPoE, but I think Superloop is PPPoE only yeah.

    • +1

Opticomm also provides IPOE for some ISP, but if you want IPv6 only using PPPOE, they are not passing the option 82 via the DHCPv4 due to using old equipments.

  • +1

    Save you Money:

I would just sign up for the cheapest 100/20 plan and wait until it’s get automatically upgraded to 500/50 which is sufficient for most users

    • Just curious — how does the plan get upgraded to 500/50?

      • +1

You don't have to do anything. NBN Co ( not the retail service provider) will upgrade ALL NBN 100/20 plans to 500/50 around 15th Sept 2025

Advise - select a good service provider and sign up for the NBN 100/20 and sit back and relax

    • +8

      These aren't NBN plans.

      • Yeah, I was wondering… is there any word on if Opticomm will upgrade their speeds as per the upcoming NBN changes?

    • Yep, Southern Phone 100/20 at $65 a month for 12 months would be the one I'd suggest.

  • After your promo period expires, call them up and talk to their retention team. I managed to extend my contract of $ 100/month on 250/20 plan.

    • I did that and they would only drop my 100/20 plan to $85 p/m but wanted a lock in plan. No way.
I've cancelled with them and looking at Leaptel.
You just gotta keep churning with ISP's. No point staying once the prices go up and they only offer discounts to "new" customers

      • At the time, I told them that I was considering to move to Exetel at cheaper price for the same plan. However, I told them that I would be willing to commit to 12 months if they could put me on a 250/20 plan for $ 100. Maybe it depends on the customer rep and how you negotiate with them.

  • They will charge the full month even if you sign up near the end of it, also 30 days notice required for leaving

  • +2

Weren't lower speed plans supposed to become cheaper with introduction of these new higher speeds? I'm absolute baffled that you can't find a lower speed reliable internet under $80 a month, wow.

    • Unfortunately can only go with opticomm in my area as it used to be testra velocity. No NBN available

    • lower speed reliable internet under $80 a month

Here you go, 25/10 speed for $53.90/month, ongoing price for both NBN and Opticomm connections:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/913070

It's a long-running deal, at a lower price than the 25/5 offer in this deal, and it's not an introductory offer. And has free static IP if you ask for it.

      • i said lower, not lowest. lower as 50/20 thats really low compared to now 250, 500, 1000 speeds and 50 is still around +$80…

        • 25/10 isn't the lowest. 25/5 is lower, in this very deal. And I'm still on an old 12/1 plan, which suits me fine.

  • Keeping my plan 85 month for 100/20 with exetel. Will change if they increase the price.

    • I'm with Exetel.

Mine has already been increased to $90/month for 100/20 plan. Received an email for the price increase.

      • Can't you sign up to their new one plan $80 for 500/50?

        • I can do it, but you don't get a public static IP, so stuff like checking your security cams from outside home won't work on their ONE Plan.

    • There’s only one plan now. 500/50 for 80 buxs on Exetel.

      • What! That’s damn cheap. Link to sign up?

        • Just Google it man. There’s one plan. You can’t miss it.

          • @unhuman: Can't find it - only NBN NOT opticomm.

            • @alteclan: My bad, this is nbn. I don’t even know what opticon is

  • +2

Just churned from Exetel 50/20 to Superloop 1000/20 on a Opticomm service. They were kind enough to waive the 30 day cancellation notice as I was moving to Superloop. They did try and get me to stay with a $15 discount on their 100/20 plan. Placed Superloop order at 12:55pm and already active at 1:35pm.

    • Did Superloop handle all that or did you need to coordinate with “Exetel” too?

      • +1

Had to call Exetel to request the cancellation. After Exetel confirmed the cancellation via email and I finished the call, I placed my order through the Superloop website. The operator thought he may have been able to place the Superloop order for me while on the phone but came back and said I needed to do it through the website.

Just don't get why goverment allows privately owned corp to monopolize certain estates.

If NBN is available where Opticomm is as well, I'm sure most users would not pick them.

    • +1

unfortunately Australia is riddled with monopolies in diff industries, including communications, gov is corrupted by them

      • +1

So no different to most other countries.
Canada was notorious for shafting their people on cartel centric markets when I was there for a good 10 months.

    • +1

NBN was in a world of pain 10-15 years ago as they could not keep up with the fibre network rollout timing, so it was a blessing for them that Opticomm took some of the load off them.
Opticomm FTTP was great at first because we had stable 100/20 connections back in 2010 when most people were still on crappy ADSL that would shit itself every time it rained. But now we are stuck paying high prices for our 100/20 service, while people on NBN can get a 500/50 plan for cheaper.

      • Opticomm was previously cheaper, but not since the bill that passed in 2019 that bumped up monthly fees. How they give us a free speed upgrade to match NBN

    • +3

I’ve raised it with the Government. Apparently there is nothing stopping NBN overbuilding in Opticomm areas, they simply choose not to. (It’s also worthwhile to note the Gov stays somewhat at arms length from NBN Co).

It’s still worth raising though, there are minimum standards and from the questions asked of me it kind of felt like they were maybe building an arsenal to use against Opticomm.

It’s just a joke to have FTTP and still be considering 5G or Starlink.

My final point is that Opticomm made representations that they would stay line-ball with NBN on cost and speed (at a wholesale level) and that clearly is not the case. Pretty sure I saw 12/1 for $75/m the other day. WTF?

      • Just out of curiosity how did you ' raised it with the goverment'?

And by the sounds of it you actually got a response or even had a discussion with them.

      • Ironically, TPG is complaining about NBNCo upgrading their network in Canberra when theirs is already capable of higher speeds.

  • Hi, I'm currently on Optus NBN and using their modem. If I switch to this plan, can I reuse the Optus modem or will I have to buy the Amazon one suggested? Thanks in advance from a tech noob

    • I asked optus on phone yesterday, and they said the modem isn’t locked and can be used elsewhere. You probably won’t get support from new provider for any config settings though. In end I didn’t leave offering me a $35 discount on my current plan for 6 months, so I will stay and see how it goes. Call optus and ask for a disconnection. See what they offer you.

  • Anyone came across a cheap way of getting connected to opticomm? Just for clarity, I’m referring to initial connection not switching providers. I’ve been using Telstra 5G home which has been fine but now these faster plans are coming down in price making the jump and connecting Opticomm is making sense.

    • There is no cheap way. You have to pay the $300-$550 OptiComm connection fee.

    • YMMV but I got connected to Opticomm when Origin up sold me on my energy plan. They organised the installation after crediting me $100 on my energy bills. I don’t think there’s any discounts on the Opticomm side but that’s still technically $100 I saved. I think installation was $270, well worth it after upgrading from TPG 5G.

    • +1

      Thanks for the responses team.

  • I signed up a contract with uniti which owned by opticomm. 4 mths free + $10 off for 6 months for the plan 50/20 $69. Super loop is still more expensive than my current plan

    • how is the connection reliability/quality with uniti ?

      • +1

Im currently with Uniti on opticomm. Was with harbour isp before uniti bought them. Barely any connection issues while with harbour and uniti. Have been using tp link archer ax6000 router during this time. Within the last 6 months, I had noticed congestion issue during peak hour mainly on weekends, getting around 150ish download speeds when I was on 250/25 and 1000/50 plans.

Im just about to jump on this deal since its $30 cheaper for the 6 months.

  • +1

i had to laugh, i remember when i was on Opticom, i feel your pain!

  • Does anybody know if this can stack with the referral code? If not, i'd rather go with cashback from topcashback

  • Let's see. With uniti, from 80 up to 100/mth now.

  • In an estate with opticom, ping is decent at 17ms but keep getting lag spikes every 10-15 min and some disconnects while gaming. Any ideas anyone ?

Same for different ISPs, issue remains.

NTD seems to be an older huawei device from about 2019

  • When I go to the website and put my address in the fastest plan I can select is 250/25. How do I get 1000/50? I'm in an Opticomm estate.

  • +1

Very frustrating experience trying to avail this deal. Firstly, order stuck in pending state (changed from Received), AI Chat advised nothing wrong- await automatic processing.

Advised business hours from 0830 so tried at 0930 to speak to someone. Live chat estimated wait time less than a minute. 30 minutes later finally spoke with someone.

After about 10 minutes, they advise I need to call to speak to the provisioning team and as it’s a general chat they can’t transfer me?

I call and they say the credit check has been declined - which is bizarre since I haven’t had this issue before and I understood it’s upfront billing! The agent says they can’t assist me with this and I need to contact the accounts team, but the accounts team aren’t working today so will have to call tomorrow.

After an hour of messing around, I figure I’d rather just pay the premium for Launtel. Always been a huge Launtel fan and grateful they don’t screw me around like Superloop did, so I cancelled the churn with Superloop. Great price - but I guess you get what you pay for.

  • I'm moved from Exetel to Superloop without notifying Exetel. When I was trying to check my Exetel account online, none of my information was showing. Does Superloop handle the transfer if you're previously from Exetel seeing as they are like sister companies?

    • They don't even offer Opticomm plans to new customers anymore.

  • Is any using Google Nest Wifi Pro with Superloop?

  • I’m about to move into a property that uses OptiComm, but I’ve always had NBN.

The current tenants are paying $70/month for a 25/5 plan with Swoop. That seems like a massive fee (I pay $80/month for a 250 NBN plan with Spintel).

What plan would people suggest I change to with regards to OptiComm? Any other providers out there that are more economical?

    • I pay $90 a month for 100/20 plan. I think from mid September, this would change to 500/50 without increasing the monthly charge.

      • Would the 25/5 plan increase?

        • No, you have to be on 100/20 plan atleast

    • These are your choices, but this Superloop deal is one of the better ones. The competition is pretty poor amongst this lot. Us opticonn users can only dream of the ongoing $80 500/50 plan on the NBN from Exetel.
