  • Is the 32gb/1tb essentially the same for a few extra dollars more?

    • +3

ram is upgradable 2 sodimm slots.
there's 2 m.2 nvme slots as well. this thing is a beast in terms of upgradability.

      • Yeah but what's the maximum supported memory? If it's 32 gigs then there is not point buying this

        • i put 64gb in the 14" model.

          • @Pikaloo: The specs sheet says it's up to 2x16 GB. It could take more though, just not rated for 64 GB

            • @Rimas: Yeah, some guy online said 64gb is possible, and I tried it and it worked.

        • -2

          Max Memory
          • Up to 24GB DDR5-4800 offering
          • Up to 32GB DDR5-5600 offering

        • In theory it should be able to take up to 128GB total memory.

      • The reason to have soldered RAM is for the increased throughput.
Unless you're doing something that requires increased amount of data to be held in RAM, you'd be way better off with the (much) higher MT/s

        • Yes, I understand the reasoning behind it. But at what cost?

          • +1

@Pikaloo: I'm just going off Framework's own discussion about the new "AI" range CPUs and why they were going with soldered.
Their own testing showed that there was no way around it, the So-Dimms come with a considerable performance penalty.

Given their entire business model is modularity, you'd think they'd go with the modular memory over soldered if it was a minor difference.

            • @smalltime0: Makes sense. If I got the higher end AI Ryzen chips I'd probably want soldered as well.

But this is just a $1,000 machine which uses the same CPU that Framework also offers without soldered memory.

    • upgrading to 32gb is worth it for the faster ram

  • $1343 on edu.

No additional coupons available on spend and save

  • Nice bit of kit!

  • The linked laptop says HDR600?

    • from previous post:

The panel details seem to differ between pages, showing either 'HDR 600 True Black' or 'HDR True Black 1000', but looking at the VESA certified devices list (on their website(displayhdr.org)) the model (Ideapad Slim 516AKP10) indicates its True Black 1000 capable (on that list + not on the 600 list). I'm guessing Lenovo's trying to throw off budget buyers / redirect them to the pro models (having the same certification, and panel too probably)

      • Is there a way to test whether its 600 or 1000? I'm using the laptop from the last deal right now

        • +1

Possibly in system, display, advanced display; but it doesn't really matter.

  • +4

I want this but I don't need it.

  • 1.89kg in case you're looking

    • +5

      reasonable for a 16" imo

  • +2

Need this in a 14 inch

    • +2

      Same sadly

      • -1

        Display is totally different.
        FHD 400 nits for 14' and 2.8K with 500 nits for 16'

        • -3

You don't say…You forgot that the 14" is 14" and the 16" is 16". I never said it was like for like and either did Lenovo, it's just the 14" model is on sale as well. If you want a 14" like for like go complain to Lenovo.

          • @Pikaloo: No way.

and 500 nits is 500 nits and 400 nits is 400 nits.

Need this in a 14 inch

As you migh've noticed if you actually read the above comment

does not only mean cpu and ram. Display is one of the most important parts of laptops, just saying…

        • Doesn't this have a 14" WUXGA (1920 x 1200) which I find is perfect 14 inches, as I have a Dell laptop with this resolution. I wouldn't want 2K at 14".

          • @IJustKnowStuff: Id agree that FHD is usable on 14" but 2k is still much better

            • @Pest85: 1080P FHD is a bit lacking in IMO, but the 1200 vertical space makes it ok.

  • +7

Use code NB71025 for an extra $69.95 off, so net $1,329.05 which is cheaper than edu store price.

    • Nice, thanks. How do you find them?

      • Work email subscription.

    • Will using this code void the cashrewards cashback term?

      • Don't think so. I used a similar code for July on top of the generic JUL25 code and CR tracked fine for my Yoga Slim purchase.

    • Hey firestint, thanks for the code. Do you know the expiry date for this code?

      • +1

Seems to be 31/Oct from the email I received.

  • +1

Beware of serious performance issues when connected to an external 4K screen. AI 350 graphics is good, but not good enough for more than 20 tabs in 4K

    • +2

1440p screen has been fine for me for anybody wondering, though even my old UHD620 igpu could power that with no particular hiccups.

    • the default vram is 512m, you can change it to 2gb+ in bios or the radeon software, that should fix your issues

      • +1

Increasing VRAM does help, but the glitches (switching from one chrome tab to another one only switches half of the screen) remain

        • UPD. Increasing VRAM on these laptops is impossible, it is locked by BIOS and AMD Adrenalin settings are not applied.

  • Can I play civ7 on this? low settings seems like it would work?

  • +1

    13% cashback now

    • probably wont track if using the NB71025 code as well right?

      EDIT:
Cashback is eligible on codes generated by Lenovo on its website, even though they may not be listed on Cashrewards, provided last click before purchase is from Cashrewards.

So maybe it will be ok? so risky tho :P

      • Yes last time the extra code was tracked but unsure if it will be paid

        • Damn I really need to know it cashback allows rhe code because I want to maximise the discount.

    • Can you use the code that is not advertised on CR? I don't see NB71025 on it.

      • +1

Most likely cashback will not be paid if coupon is no on their website.

  • +1

Nice deal. Waiting for a good thinkpad t14 deal to drop

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently using a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5x and finding that it lags on some of my professional tasks specially when I have multiple tabs open.
I'm trying to decide if the upgrade is worth the price difference.

Could you please give me your thoughts on whether the new laptop is a worthwhile investment, and what the biggest pros and cons are from a professional's perspective?

Here are the specs for both machines:

My Current Laptop (Purchase Price: ~$789 AUD)

    Processor: Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 (8-core)

    Memory: 16GB LPDDR5x (Soldered)

    Storage: 512GB SSD

    Display: 14" WUXGA (1920x1200) IPS, 300 nits, 100% sRGB

    GPU: Integrated Qualcomm Adreno

    Condition: Certified Refurbished

    Potential Upgrade (Price: ~$1350 AUD)

    Processor: AMD Ryzen™ AI 7 350 (8-core)

    Memory: 24 GB DDR5 (SODIMM) - Upgradable to 64GB

Storage: 512 GB SSD + Spare M.2 slot

    Display: 16" 2.8K (2880 x 1800), OLED, 500 nits, 100% DCI-P3, 120Hz

    GPU: Radeon 860m

    Weight: 1.89kg

The price difference is approximately $561 AUD.

From your experience, would this be a smart investment to solve my performance issues, or is there a better option for around the same price? I'm mainly using the laptop for business tasks, including client management, data analysis, and creating marketing materials.

Thanks for your help! I am a heavy professional user of laptop with mulitple tabs open all the time of various online data based applications, but no gaming. Appreciate your input. I prefer high battery life.

    • +1

      https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/qualcomm-snapdragon-x-…

AMD is 75% more performant in single core and 115% more in multi-core.

However, you havent mentioned if your professional tasks are CPU intended

      • Oh yeah CPU intended. I am not that well versed in tech so dont know if it is GPU or CPU. My tasks are mainly accessing online data based research based websites and preparing consulting research papers based on that.

        • +1

I am considering your machine in a 32gb variant - this would probably help the lag with so many tabs open. what's the battery life of the Slim 5x like?

          • @NuclearWessels: I am getting minimum of 8-10hours. I suspect this will be a problem with Ryzen AI as it is not snapdragon based ARM device?

        • +1

yeah that workflow is CPU based.
GPU is more video editing and computer games (and now Ai).

If you are viewing massive PDFs on multiple browser tabs then memory is going to be important.

          • @Ti-au: Yeah I am doing Massive PDF's and memory hogging online data sites. So I feel lot of lag ongoing. I feel this needs to be fixed and hence I am considering getting this. Anyways, I made the purchase based on teh first comment and tracked 13% cashback as well, I am hoping it gets tracked and also I am hoping the laptop is fast enough to overcome this lag issue.

  • I am planning to change the SSD disk of this laptop along with the Ram. Is there any video or tutorial? Then I can use to do that?

  • Price has dropped to $1215.05 now.

  • Tempting!
Will Shopback track with the code NB71025?

  • Is there a method to stack the codes?
    AUG25 is automatically applied.
When I add NB71025, it does not add a further discount.

    • I did try the code last night and the extra discount was applied.

      • Thanks. The IdeaPad Pro was excluded.

        • +1

Type the code in, I copy/pasted from here and it said excluded.. Typed it in and it applied :)

  • Anyone got any of the bonus codes to stack on the 1TB / 36GB model?

Tried the prior 2 in the comments but they don't seem to work.

  • Has anyone been successful with tracking the two codes with cashback?

  • +1

Stacks with the Ideapad Pro 16 if you add an 8$ set of headphones to the order.

    • Thank you for this,

Got the Pro 5 for $1393.63 with a pair of $8 earphones. Hopefully 15% cash back comes through for a total of $1184.59.

      Cheers

      • +1

Hopefully for you and me both 😉

  • 15% Cashback now available as well!

  • This or the Pro 5 for $1459?

I purchased one for my sons school computer. Now waiting for cashback confirmation email from topcashback, hope I get 15% back :)

    • +2

Update, just received cashback tracked email from TopCashback.

      Merchant Purchase Date Purchase Cashback
      Lenovo 19 Aug 2025 $1,215.05 $182.26

      • TopCashBack only shows as a 4.55% saving for me, has it dropped?

        • +1

yes it was for one day only 19-August. Today I think shopback is paying highest rate.

  • Had been browsing for a replacement but now think I may need a new laptop today.

Anyone have some experience on delivery time with these? Or anyone know a brick and mortar store in Brissie who'd price match (even if I lose cash back or pay a touch extra) - I have officeworks, JB, and Good Guys just down the road? It's for our business, use them for editing large schematics (CAD/PDF) and photos, occasionally a little gaming when my wife isn't around.

    • +1

I ordered on Tuesday and received it today (Thursday). Delivered via DHL.

  • It seems a ASUS VivoBook Gaming 16 V3607VU-RP596W with Geforce RTX 4050 beats this? (for similar price point)
    Why so much love?
    Upgradeable?

    • +1

Much much better display, $185? Cheaper and can get 15% cashback

      • OP, if the deal is expired (significant price increase of 5% or more than $20, whichever is greater) you need to expire the deal, please do not increase the prices displayed in the title

Similarly, when the price of a deal decreases significantly (greater than 5%), please also expire the deal, and then repost it as a fresh deal.

If you update a deal that's old (especially >24 hours), people are going to miss seeing the deal — updating a deal does not bump it to the top of the new deals page, nor will it be picked up by our front page algorithms or daily email newsletters. To do so means "burying" a deal and it also prevents others from re-posting the deal as they might perceive it as a duplicate (when it necessarily isn't).

e,g 11/08/2025 - 11:36 the price went down as far as $1215.05. On that occasion, you should have reposted the deal with the new price. That is a deal that hundreds if not thousands of people have missed and not seen, because it wasn't on the new deals page or emailed to our newsletter subscribers.

        • Ok thanks, perhaps would a repost deal button feature in the editor help to incentivise this rather than manually recreating the post again.

  • Shopback 15% cashback is live!

  • Thanks OP bought IdeaPad Pro 5i 14" (32GB RAM) for $1443 before the 15% cashback
