  • If you ignore price, is this camera better than http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/91497 ?

    • Can't tell you since I don't have either.

But they are totally different products - the K-r is large and heavy, the Pentax Q fits in the palms of your hands.

are you serious? comparing this with k-r ?? ofcourse k-r milesss
      here let me help
      http://snapsort.com/compare/Pentax-Q-vs-Pentax_K-r

      • Thanks for that link. Now I feel dumb asking that question.

Personally, I don't think you should feel that way.. not everyone is professional photographers..

This is what Forums are for.. to Share information and knowledge. for those people who likes to insult others, ignore them.. ;)

        • They are for completely different purposes.
For my gf the pentax q is a much better camera than my 5d mark ii because its light, has built in flash and is very user friendly. Sometimes its so friendly, if the picture is going to be over exposed, it won't let me take the shot :)
For me, the 5 d is better because its a full frame, no annoying pop up flash and can shoot shutter speeds of up to 1/8000

    • not really a far comparison, the pentax q takes some amazing shots for its size and price but the standard lens range is quite limiting. ideally, by both for when you cbf carrying a huge camera around

  • where all the white version? damn i'll pay $50 extra to swap mine with white

    • I've got a white Q. Check your PM.

for the love of whoever you pray to.. people if you have questions regarding the Q and 'if it's worth it'.. consult the two previous threads in the OP, particularly the first one, or search for the massive thread on 'thoughts on the q' in the normal forum.

The questions have been answered by myself and many others, a billion times over.

It's a cheap, brilliant camera for the price.

My take is, if you only have $200 to spend & you just want the best IQ for the money, buy the Q, end of story.

A 2nd hand digital SLR with a kit zoom would be better. A 20d, 30d, K10D, D40X or something of the sort can be found on Ebay or Gumtree with a lens for about that price.

The Q is a completely different camera though. It's so tiny and cuuuuuttteeee!

I was referring to buying new (in the P&S category), not 2nd hand.

Ted's, if you somehow visit this thread and read this, please give us a good deal on the zoom lens. Thanks :)

  • I own a K5 and a Q.

I am constantly suprised by the sharpness of the Q in general shots… Just getting pub group shots (not even me shooting) @ ~f4 its very impressive. The detail compared to my k5 with my limited primes may not be a match but the sharpness definitly is (and tones).

I would be suprised if you could show me something that compares at a tiny package and price… Saying this thou I am not sure if I would recommend the Q to a general 'point and snap' person…. It may be technically beyond them. The fact that you have to use different lenses for zoom and the many DSLR style settings which makes it AWESOME may be too much for general users.

  • thanks, just bought. saw this deal 3rd time now. finally, I pulled the trigger.

  • Any codes? VE5OFF doesn't work anymore unfortunately

  • Sold out

  • If you don't mind the size increase, the Nikon V1 & 10-30mm for ~$300 is also a good deal for $100 more than the Q. The sensor is bigger than in the Pentax Q, but smaller than the m4/3 and APS-C NEX/EOS-M, but given the electronic viewfinder and fast phase-detection AF I think it matches the Pentax Q in value-for-money.

There's also the Pentax K-r listed previously for a bit more if you want to go up to APS-C sized DSLR in the sub $400 price range.

  • I am still waiting for my K01 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89805 I think it is a good deal. I also have the Q unused after getting over the initial excitement so if anyone wants it please message me.
