good games tend to not drop in price quickly bad ones do.
Or in the case of Nintendo they go up in price lmao
Looking back at past games I've bought, I've never paid $30 for a 5 year old game, let alone a 2 year old game, no matter how good the game was. Here are some I bought:
Crysis 2 - $17 - 2 years after release
Rage - $18 - 6 months after release
Metro 2033 - $2.95 ($9.90 inc postage) - 2 years after release
Wolfenstein New Order - $12 - 2 years after release
Max Payne 3 - $4.99 (USD) - 2 years after release
Far Cry 3 - $8.73 (USD) - 1 year after release
Bioshock Infinite - $10.87 (USD) - 6 months after release
South Park Stick of Truth - $11.20 (USD) - 1 year after releaseThose are all relatively older games. I used to pay those kinda prices for games. I find that in recent years, it hasn't been as easy to acquire low cost CD keys.
@MrZ: The other thing to consider with Cyberpunk is the active development time. Sure it "released" 5 years ago, but a decent size team has been working on it since release, and are likely still working on it.
I'm not saying it justifies anything, I'm just highlighting how the gaming industry has changed since the era of those games you listed, hence why this publisher isn't going deeper with the discount on this particular game. All the games you listed would likely have had the entire team wrapped and no longer on payroll shortly after release.
@jk82: Some more recent games:
Prey - $5.39 - 2 years after release
Wolfenstein II - $8.10 - 4 years after release
Metro Exodus Gold Edition - $17.40 - 3.5 years after release
South Park Fractured But Whole - $13.49 - 2 years after release@MrZ: Maybe you need to change your perspective. If you were willing to pay a higher price for older games, then the industry would have more funds to create more quality games.
@yamumma: Maybe I'd be willing to pay a higher price if I could re-sell the game once finished with it. Ever since that stopped being possible, I have no interest in paying full price for new release games.
@furythree: Wrong, they're all AAA. That's a stupid term, anyway.
But if you want AAA:
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim - $8.74 (USD) - 2 years after release
@seerious: The prices that are in USD were all bought on Steam during sales (back then they didn't sell in AUD). Some of the others were bought on eBay, while others were bought from reputable CD key sites.
@MrZ: yeah cause 2011 economy and market is the same as post covid economy
skyrim production same as cp77 development effort
totally apples to apples. u really got us there champ
@MrZ: i know what u said
doesnt make it any less a 2011 launch title
time moves on. things change
its nothing specific to do with Cyberpunk, although aspects of this game make it more expensive.2010's era games are a different beats to modern game development
tech moves fast in 10 years
youll probably finally see this game dip to sub $20 once orion comes out and they do sales to drum up hype leading into its launch
cause even $10 games back then is significantly over $10 in todays money. people underestimate how insane inflation got after covid
this game is still releasing updates and patches. And is constantly used as a benchmark with newly released hardware and demonstrations of raytracing
until that changes, it will remain in vogue. only once the next AAA title that pushes hardware and game scope to its limits will things change. its how its always been
@furythree: Inflation… meh, $10 in 2013 is like $13.50 today. Also, I still don't see how you can call NONE of those games "AAA". Explain that one to me?
@MrZ: cause theyre AA at best and around that period games were cheap and abundant and also had lots of competition.
modern games take longer to develop and more resources.
Skyrim took approximately six years, with a focus period of around 3 to 4 years
Cyberpunk took 6+ and ongoing development. Bethesda meanwhile just dumps the game to the mod community to fix their bugs and issues. Bugs still prevalent in Starfield cause its a decade+ engine bug. My ass that is AAA qualityand inflation is neither linear nor logical in how it translates to final price
its not just straight $1 becomes $1.3, every step of the supply chain adds costs. labour, distribution, marketing, fees, commissions, publishers. not all of these scale linearly with inflation
look at your local coffee shop. a $4 cup of barista coffee probably went up by a $1 at most but they will charge you $6+ now
dont get me wrong. i puke when i see mario kart world at $100+ and upcoming battlefield 6 for $129 rrp. Those publishers can go fk themselves
but people need to start voting wallets as well as set realistic expectations
Most of these are pretty good games and about half of them are some of my favourites - but it's been some time since then. Everything has gone up in price so adjusted for "inflation", the current prices aren't that bad.
Also like @jk82 pointed out, Cyberpunk is not exactly the game that got released anymore. It's been updated so many times and it's still one of the best looking games.
If there's no massive competition from new games, there's no reason for game studios to reduce prices drastically.
Inflation my guy.
Actually a really good game. I bought it ages ago never played and recently finished. This price is well worth it.
Is it ever going to come down. Or just sit here like Red Dead did for so long
This game is worth every single penny and especially at this price, we shouldn't be penny pinching about not being cheaper
A game can be worth every cent and still be too expensive.
I’m personally waiting on $20 to $30 for Ultimate Edition.you might as well pirate it then
cdpr dont even use DRM cause theyre fking legends
Are they still actively patching cyberpunk? I think if so its worth the pennies
Yep 2.3 was released not long ago.
I was actually patching last night and found out it needs ~90GB of space (temporary)… Spent all night transferring stuff from the laptop to an external drive, which is probably a good thing for me to finally tidy things up since ~2022!
I think 2.3 is supposed to be the final patch and it came out a week or 2 ago. Added more upscaling options, self-driving cars, photo mode updates and some other QOL things. Pretty good patch.
until the next final patch lol
maybe I should play cyber punk again havent' done the expansion yet But I finished the main game when it was released on PC almost a week after it was release back when I could only run it at 30fps lol on a 5600 XT, and it was buggy as hell.
100% do it. Phantom Liberty was my personal GOTY it’s that good. (Well… DLCOTY technically I guess?)
Yeah Phantom Liberty as some of the best quests and writing in the whole game imo.
You can skip straight to it if you can't be bothered playing the main game again.
Play the main game again. It's unrecognisable from release. A good reason to support CDPR. They didn't just leave the game a buggy mess like other developers may have, they actually got stuck in and made it into the game it should have been on release.
hears an idea make it bug free before releasing it!! :D
Agree totally, in an ideal world all games would be bug free, but as we know not that simple for a range of complex reasons including design over ambition, publisher pressures, bad management etc etc.
@Shoocat: they used to make perfect games back in the days where you literarily shipped a cartridge or cd to a store, there were no software updates, So they had to have it right the first time, have you ever noticed it was rare to find a bug in any game back then?
@kungfuman: True, but games were a lot simpler then as well. They were often produced by a handful of people compares to today's games.
I wonder if we'll see the end of bugs when games are AI generated (and all us humans are jobless)? You'd think an AI could bug-test it's game millions of times over before it shipped…
Same, I tried when it first came out & it sucked balls but have since gone back (this time on a PC) and it's incredible…have put 80hrs in over 5 weeks and still can't wait to "jack in" most days. I'm doing all of the side quests before I finish it & move on to Phantom Liberty.
i like the bug where random people fell from the sky, and bad guys disappear into elevators :D
The vehicle mechanics when it first came out…wild! It's much better now, not quite GTA V but definitely very playable.
I own Cyberpunk on GOG. Still $44.95 for the DLC on there unfortunately.
cloud saves on gog are only 200mb. honestly might buy it again just for 2gb of cloud saves on steam + buying the dlc!~
How big are the save files?
I just had a look at mine, I've got 5 manual saves, and along with all the auto saves it's 115MB.
@jk82: not enough for more than one playthough, and even then, it doesnt auto delete the older auto saves so it fills up pretty quick, then you get a warning that its full…
@BigAsianMan: Yeah, I really don't understand the move from GOG to implement that 200mb limit. Not that I used Gog much in the first place but it really deterred me from ever buying games there again
Perfect! Just as I finished the game after playing again on MacOS. It's so freakin good. No doubts about the quality of CDPR's DLC. Blood and Wine was excellent.
This price for switch 2 when?
Anyone played it on the ROG Ally?
The witcher I agree but not cyberpunk!!
Ridiculous that the DLC costs the same as the base game!
They probably priced the DLC higher to make up for the extra money they paid their devs to fix the base game 😅
It's newer . Less people gave it, pay the money .
No discount on the Witcher bundle for those that already own the base game…
Best game I have ever played ….Baldur's 3 came close , but this is so much better . And it's a must play classic now .
Also on MacOS since the last patch!
Tossing whether to buy this for the Steam Deck but already have the GOG one.
Search Reddit for how to play GOG versions on deck, doesn't seem too difficult.
Best game I ever built a computer for!
edit: Other than the X:Series games
Witcher 👍, wish I got complete.
It cheaper on PS5 - $52.97.
Great game, better than that overrated the witcher…Is Ultimate worth the extra money?
