Tom Tom Via 160 for $72 (with LifeTime Maps) [The Good Guys]

130

Ol gil here, went to The Good Guys at O Connor (Western Australia) and saw this Tom Tom via 160 for $72. It was the last one, im assuming its because they have the New Tom Tom via 260 which is pretty much identical to the 160 but bigger model number.

the Tom Tom via 160 has

bluetooth handsfree
and Voice recognition

and to add i see the Tom Tom via 160 is part of the lifetime maps promotion which expires on the 30th of June 2013. http://www.tomtompromotion.com/maps/AU

  • lifetime maps is useful. I have an older TomTom, and buying new maps is about as much as a new unit, yet quite essential.
I must say that the map update process (for user contributed updates) on TomTom is very painful, and I have required my IT skills to fix up the issues. Not sure if other people have been more lucky.

    • In my case, I just plug it into the pc and Tomtom Home takes over and updates everything.

Lifetime maps would be great though, as my own subscription ended a year or two ago.

      • For me, Tom Tom home always complained about errors which occured, corruptions, etc. Would have to run update 6 times before it would finish without issues.

      • Those updates are just for the current map (IQ routes) installed on the GPS. Tomtom only gives one free map after you purchase the device.
Reason for that is you can purchase it from the retailer after few months or a year. After connecting it for the first time, your device is updated with the latest map.

I have existing GPS and have been doing the updates for last 2-3 years.
Bought Via 220 from JBHIFI for $75 (price matched Dick Price) after calling all nearby Dick stores and they had only refurbished or returned items. Sales person happily price matched it.
Quite happy with the new maps. They are definitely different than my old device.

So it is definitely a very good bargain even though you have a 2-3 years old GPS.

  • Anyone knows how can i found a good guy store who has stock available? Or somewhere i can get a price match? officework is out of stock.

Can't say I'm happy with mine. Routing has been wrong too often that I just keep it in my car as backup to my Samsung Galaxy S2 which runs Navigon. Suffice to say I'm not using the 160 anymore (it's up to date and all).

    • Navigon on my S2 looks quite slow and sometimes keep looking for GPS even after 15 minutes.

  • I use garmin. Its good. Except thr speed limits of some roads and cameras are incorrect. Think it would be the map company to blame…
